Fast and delicious. The veggie dishes taste fresh every time. And I only had to ask for«extremely spicy» once for my chicken biryani to arrive a beautiful deep orange that made me sweat bullets and required extra yogurt; good thing I had ordered some! Try it, for sure :)

Delicious butter chicken and naan. I get the butter chicken, naan, and vegetable biryani every couple of weeks. It is delicious Indian food for not that much money. When I lived closer, I would also stop in for the daily special, which is an even better deal. I generally order delivery from Grubhub or Seamless(they are no longer on seamless). Delivery times can be hit or miss, but the food is phenomenal and worth the wait.

WARNING: Do not order from Grub Hub. They are having issues and it delayed my order by almost 2 hours. Extremely frustrating. However, the food here made up for the wait. It is seriously so good. Great services too, it wasn’t their fault that Grub Hub screwed up royally and they were lightening fast when I called to ask what had happened. Will order here again, but by calling the restaurant directly only :-)

It is an unappetizing name for a restaurant, but the dinner special is a good deal($ 11 for rice, naan and 2 curries) and the food is decent.

Ordered delivery. Delicious butter chicken. Got puri and put the chick peas in it. Delish. Vegetable Pakora was too spicey for me but that’s how its supposed to be so thats not a negative. I don’t handle spicey well but my Fiancé does and he loved them. He also loved the green spicey sauce that came with the pakora. They were very polite on the phone and delivered promptly.

This review was for a delivery from here– I tried the chicken curry and was a bit disappointed in the utter lack of flavor. My friend tried the butter chicken and found it to be magically delicious. It’s nice because they give each«order» an individual pint of basmati rice, and not assuming we should all share and portion out accordingly. It was ok– I think I’ll try another dish next time though.

Excellent butter chicken, really good naan, great palak paneer, fair prices, quick delivery. What more do you need? One note: there are a few benches for eating there, and they have a small patio below street level, but it’s not really a sit-down place. Primarily carry out and delivery.

Pick up order I’m pretty sure they sacrificed more than just a lamb, but probably my stomach and my intestinal tract too. My god, after all was said and done a few hours later I could not leave the bathroom. I was dying. It smelled like I had my own scarifying. Talk about going in one way and out the other. We split the following: + half tandoori chicken with ‘special herbs and spices’ + lamb kabob ” « + veggie pakoras » « + garlic naan + mango lassis I have no idea what the ‘special herbs and spices’ were, but they destroyed me. The royal thrown couldn’t even handle my weapons of mass destruction. Never again could I imagine putting my body through such hell. At the time of consumption, they weren’t that spicy even for the blandest person on earth such as myself was able to handle it until the unforeseeable aftermath. If you know what’s good for you — just don’t do it.

3.5 stars for kinda filling gryo… docked 0.5 star b/c of the size. It’s about a 6″ gyro with some green sauce, feta, iceberg, tomatoes, and onions… for 9 bucks the gyro wasn’t as filling as it is in other places. I have to say their buffet of curries looked amazing though, I would most likely get a plate of rice and curry the next time.

Very disappointed. 1st time Unilocaler, 1st time customer at Sacrificial Lamb. There must be a connection… This restaurant is 2 blocks from our apartment. The problems started when we called in an order for delivery and in the middle of asking a question about the side order of naan, was told by the man on the phone that it would be best if we could just make our order as quickly as possible. Really? Ok, sure, thanks for allowing first time customers to ask questions. We ordered and were told it would be 45 minutes. I am used to delivery in DC taking a bit longer than estimated. An hour and a half later? WEORDEREDOURFOODAT8:38PMON A TUESDAYNIGHT. THERESTAURANTISTWOBLOCKSAWAYFROMOURAPARTMENT. We called Sacrificial Lamb to ask about our order. We were told the delivery driver was 5 minutes away. Great! He must have left right after that phone call, not 1 hour 30 minutes earlier when our order should have arrived. Delivery guy showed up EXACTLY5 minutes later and was very apologetic. Too bad the food had obviously been sitting out, forgotten about at the restaurant. Luke warm, required microwaving before we ate. Worst part is, the food tasted pretty good. It’s a shame we will never be ordering it again.

This place is amazing. I literally order from here all of the time. There isn’t much space to sit down there anyway, it is more of a take-out place which is fine with me. Their delivery is very quick and the food is excellent. I highly recommend ordering from here. My standard order is Paneer Makhani, Tandoori Bread, and Rass Malai. :)

Super meh. Went here the other night with my roommate as we were HANGRY and in the area. Food was extremely subpar — my butter chicken was so sad that it had cried and was drowning in it’s own watery tears. The chicken lacked flavor and had that unpleasant frozen rubbery taste to it. For the high price, there were also no sides to accompany my chicken and considering the meal was $ 10+, I would hope there would be some chickpea action going on as well! My roommate ordered a wrap that he considered decent but slightly dry. This area seems to be devoid of fast casual Indian food and we all have those pangs for Indian food. I warn my fellow Unilocalers not to give in to Sacrifical Lamb! The cravings for Indian food will not be filled here. ‘Satisfice’ — accept an available option as satisfactory. E.g. Sacrificial Lamb.

This is my roommates and my go to delivery Indian place. We’ve sampled a good portion of DC Indian places and sacrificial lamb has by far the best naan hands down. As far as the main course goes we usually go with the butter chicken which tends to be a little overly sweet unless you ask for it spicy in which case it is delicious! However, our most recent order came and looked completely different than it normally does. It was bright red in color and extremely greasy to a point where there were pools of oily-ness in our sauce. It was not good. We’re hoping this was a one time occurrence. I’ll update again next time we order, but for now 3 stars because I can’t imagine being the cook and having the food turn out this way and being like«ehhh ok, delivery it anyways.» Also our rice was burnt. Maybe it was just a bad day.

This place was disappointing. I was staying at a nearby hotel and had a few other options for take-out. After a little bit of indecision I went went this place because Indian food sounded delicious. I went into Sacrificial Lamb to place an order and it took less than two minutes for a the polite staffer to welcome me. The appetizer menu seemed promising and I went for the Chef’s Assorted Special, which is a variety of appetizers on the menu, and a side of Roti bread. The employees didn’t know what the Chef’s Assorted Special even was and looked at the menu for confirmation. That should’ve been the red flag because what I got was a dumpy order that included an 8-piece assortment of dry, fried items, half of which were so hard that they were inedible. Even the deli at 7⁄11 around the corner would’ve been more cost effective and fresh. Considering the dismal appetizer, the roti bread was tasty. Perhaps it was wrong to go with an appetizer over entrees but I won’t even give this place another glance. There are a number of other top-notch places not too far — some with decent Indian/Pakistani breads — so Sacrificial Lamb should be a hard pass in any event.

Ordered from this place on Seamless, and the flavors were on point. We ordered the gyro sandwich platter($ 10) and the chicken vindaoo($ 11) and boy, when they say spicy, they aren’t playing. They respected my additional requests to swap out the rice for naan and provide some hot sauce on the side, so definite plus marks to the people handling deliveries. The sandwich platter came with either chickpeas or fries — I figured chickpeas would keep better for delivery, so that’s what I went with. They were delicious! They are stewed in some sort of tomato/curry sauce that was the perfect non-spicy accompaniment when the vindaloo made me sweat. The lettuce from the sandwich platter also helped cool down my mouth. The portions weren’t enormous, but I wasn’t left hungry either. Quality over quantity and a silly name makes for a winning combination. Sacrificial Lamb will deliver a flavor punch to your tastebuds; these people know how to handle their spices. The chicken vindaloo was almost too hot to handle, but refreshing after experiencing frustration at very bland and non-spicy versions from other restaurants. I do wish they included more meat, but that’s probably because the meal was so delicious that it left me greedy for more.

There are a lot of very similar places in this general area, kabob places that do a veggie combo. This is at least the third I’ve reviewed, and there’s not a ton different between them. The most notable thing, definitely, was the samosas, delivered in chaat form with a small helping of chickpeas on top. Of course, samosas are pretty much always good, but these were definitely a bit above average, and sported visible red pepper flakes in the filling, among other tasty ingredients. As to the actual veggie combo, my paneer and dal(i.e. cheese and lentils) were perfectly average. Nothing to write home about. The portions weren’t large, but they also through in a naan which I don’t think I ordered, which had garlic baked into it on the inside. Very nice. I got some use out of that. The other thing about the combo is that for some inexplicable reason you can’t get chickpeas with it. You can order them as a side(or over the samosas, obviously), but not as part of the combo or as a solo entrée. I like chickpeas and theirs were better than the other veggie options, so this is annoying. When I was in, the sidewalks were covered in ice(and the stairs down to their place were as well), but they were still doing good takeout business by the looks of it. People(myself included) like their cheap Indian hole in the wall takeout. You could do worse than this one, I suppose.

Okay this was my first time eating from this place. I ordered delivery and everything went well. It was quick to be delivered, the delivery person was nice, and the food was hot. I ordered the chicken kabob. The cost was $ 11 and I received four small pieces of meat on a bed of lettuce… the rice was in a separate part of the take out box. The raita tasted good but I only received a half full container for $ 2. Overall the taste was fine but not worth the price. I would hope they would lower the price a little bit or raise the food portion. I’d say, although I haven’t tried it, this might be a better place for lunch.

Terrible. I am heartbroken by what has happened to this place. I gave Sacrificial Lamb five stars a few years ago as my most favorite place for take out in DC. I haven’t been back in the neighborhood in a while but was excited to find them on Seamless. However, the food I received tonight was offensively bad, bordering on inedible. I ordered chicken curry and aloo gobi, both with rice. Neither bore much resemblance to those dishes and the«gravy» around both was thin and soupy, like broth. I actually had to put the chicken curry into a pan to reheat it and cook down the sauce into something edible. The aloo gobi was 4 chunks of Idaho potato, three pieces of watery cauliflower, and some falling apart tomato slices swimming in a watery broth. Zero flavor. I never call to complain but I had to say something about this. They gave me a refund, which I appreciate. The delivery guy was courteous. I’ll never order from the Sacrificial Lamb again, and I’m so sad the best Indian in this city is just a memory.
