Second time here and it was night and day. One a Sunday night it was quiet and intimate and was a great date type spot with a pretty good menu. The food was ok but they are playing middle of the road so there is a lack of seasoning. Went in Saturday and the music was so loud it was like a club. Food was the same just know what you are getting on atmosphere.

I came here during the week — got here on the earlier side, so I was able to get a seat at the bar, but then it quickly filled up. There’s a pretty good drink selection here — whether you are into wine, cocktails or beer. So that was nice. I also really like the ambience in here. It was warm and inviting. But the most memorable thing was the burger I had for dinner. It was maybe one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten. I’m still thinking about it now. It was so juicy and had such a delightful flavor to it. So highly recommended. Can’t wait to come back and have it again.

Overpriced menu and poor service. If you are looking for a pub type atmosphere do yourself a favor and check out Boundary Stone or Right Proper. This restaurant is a few blocks from my apartment. I want to love it because it is right down the street from me. Against my better judgement I find myself here every time I forget how bad the last time was. The food is mediocre at best. However, the $ 15 burgers and the $ 14 cucumber salad are both indicative of the lack of creativity and quality at this over inflated«gastropub.» Their is nothing special or particularly good about either, but they are priced like they are out of this world. Today, I went on their website and looked at their menu. That cucumber salad was listed at $ 8 and the burger was a mildly more acceptable $ 13. But low and behold the menu hadn’t changed at the restaurant and I was gouged once again. I wouldn’t give this place a second thought but for the fact that it used to be a good local pub. There have been multiple ownership changes over the years and with each one something of the original greatness of this spot is eroded away. Until all we are left with is an overpriced under delivering spot with bad service taking up valuable real estate. Next time I think about going to Shaw’s Tavern I’ll cross the street and go to the Royal instead.

I absolutely loved it! I’m glad I took the negative comments with a grain of salt and checked it out myself! I went for Saturday brunch. Service was amazing, food was amazing! Get the shrimp and grits! I will have dreams about my meal tonight, yum!

I went with a group of 7 for bottomless brunch this past weekend and it was a blast. We were seated at a round table, which we were instantly happy with so that we could actually hold a conversation between all of us. I had the french toast which was good but other got a variety of dishes, all which were pretty great. The mac and cheese breakfast skillet was definitely enviable. Our server James was awesome. He came around every so often to check on us, even when we didn’t need him. His mimosa game was A+ too, which is always a perk. Nothing was forgotten and everything came out exactly when it should’ve. Plus, he could handle an obnoxious group of brunchers like a champ(we know what we are.) Only downside was that our table was toooo rustic, in that it was really uneven. The glasses are rounded on the bottom and the combination of the not-so-flat table, the rounded mimosa glasses, and the bottomless mimosas meant we accidentally spilled twice on ourselves and our server accidentally spilled a full glass of mimosa on me. Accidents happen but maybe get some sturdier glasses?

Second time to Shaws Tavern, first time for brunch. When we first arrived this morning, the place was empty so I thought we’d get good service. I was wrong. Service was slow and poor. We were also given dirty dishes twice, multiple hairs in the food, and the table next to us was also given clearly recently used mug, with lipstick all over the rim. We asked for new utensils twice, and waited for about 20 minutes before we actually got them. Food wasn’t bad, but items were over salted, not hot and undercooked. All in all I would probably not return. 2 stars because the Fried Green Tomatoes were really good.

Impressive! My in laws were in town so my husband and I wanted to bring them at Red Hen but with and hour and a half waiting and a not very friendly host we walked around and found shaws which was amazing. We loved the seafood menu. We ordered calamari, mussles, shrimps, mahimahi and salmon. Service was amazing! Just a little bit crowded. You can’t move your elbows!

My friends took me here for my birthday. I’m a little torn about my experience and here’s why: The service, first of all, was nothing short of flawless. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. He took care of 12 separate tabs efficiently. He also comped one of my friend’s meals because it took over an hour to arrive. My meal was not that thrilling, unfortunately. I had the chicken sandwich and it didn’t wow me. It was a boring piece of fried chicken with lettuce and tomatoes, and they charge $ 13 for it. However, the wings were pretty good. Finally, we did see a roach on the floor, right next to us. I understand it happens, but it was a little unnerving.

New Favorite Restaurant! My fiancé drives past this place every day on her way home from work and it was high on her list of restaurants to visit when the weather was nice. A few weekends ago when the weather was unusually warm we decided to walk down and have lunch. The outdoor seating is huge and, most importantly for us, dog friendly. The atmosphere is upbeat, buzzing, and very rustic. All of the food is excellent, Meg had the waffle and I had a spicy Jalapeño burger. The burger was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. I did not try the waffle but Meg was just smitten with her meal. We will definitely be back.

If you want a basic experience for dinner, go here. It’s in a great location near the Howard Theater and often have room for walk-ins between the two floors. The first floor is usually full of people enjoying a beer or two and they do have a great beer list. However, they only offer one cider(Strongbow) and it comes in a bottle so it’s more expensive. The food is decent, but not out of this world. They also have a second floor with a bar, but it’s unusually empty most of the time and the decorations are a little off. If you have some time, I recommend going to nearby All Souls Bar for a drink or to Right Proper for a burger.

Excellent food and restaurant. Service was a bit slow when our group was there. Wonderful choice for breakfast or a late night on the town.

The manager sent me a message to say the cornbread waffle is BACK! Such a delight! Oh, how I’ve missed it and it was greaaat tonight. The waiter made accommodations to allow me to order it as a side since I wasn’t in the mood for fried chicken. I had the shrimp and grits tonight for the first time. It had a different than expected taste but I enjoyed it. I love their smoked Gouda grits! We also had great service!

I won’t be going back to this place anytime soon after an awful experience earlier this week. We got a table outside for lunch — no wait. It took our waiter way too long to greet us and when he finally approached our table he didn’t bother saying: hello, how are you or I’m your waiter, I’ll be taking your order. No greeting what so ever! Didn’t bother mentioning the specials either. Just: «are you folks ready to order?» That was disappointing and rude. Never once did he ask if we wanted drinks. Not to mention the major creepy bearded dude who(apparently«worked» there) kept walking by our table with a cigarette in his hand looking like he was casing the joint. We ordered our food(two Salmon Salads). The lettuce was not fresh, it was wilted and contained pieces of plastic wrapper. It was disgusting! The waiter never returned to our table to apologize or say anything. After complaining to someone who picked up our plates the manager did come to our table to apologize and comped our meal.

Loved this place! We went to brunch with my wife’s gay flag football league. Shaw is one of the sponsors so the boys thought it’d be a great place to celebrate. We didn’t have a reservation for ten people but we were quickly seated. The menu looks amazing. My wife ordered the steak and eggs, and it was cooked perfectly. Amazing. I ordered the Mac and cheese with sausage. Again, amazing. The serving was perfect so we weren’t too stuffed and had room for dessert. We ordered the funnel cake fries. That is a must!!! The funnel cake fries come with three sauces: strawberry, chocolate, and caramel. Ohmygosh. They also offer unlimited mimosas and it was served in this cute little glass that made it easy to down them so quickly. The service was quick and our mimosas kept flowing. I will definitely be back. Oh yeah, parking is great if you have a zone 1 or 6 sticker.

This place is amazing. We had a big group upstairs and not only was the service fast and friendly(thanks, Sergio!) But the food was straightup delicious. We stuck to the happy hour menu which had a great selection. I can’t get over how accommodating the manager, Rob was. He made the group reservation so easy and spent time with me figuring out the correct wires to connect to the projector and printing custom menus. I’ll definitely be having more group events here.

A perfect brunch spot. The chicken and waffles are hands down the best thing on the brunch menu. That waffle was glorious and mixing that with a golden fried chicken, bits of bacon and maple syrup was mind blowingly awesome. We also tried the farmers vegetarian pizza, which kept the vegetarian at the table very happy. We ordered the Mac n Cheese Skillet, which wasn’t that great and could have used more seasoning. The bloody marys were amazing; just the right balance of spice, tartness and most importantly booze. The service was excellent from the hostess to the waiter and even the bartenders. This is definitely a spot you want to check out.

I had never been here before but I will say that I will definitely be back. It’s got a great patio and indoor seating area — with a piano bar. I went on a pleasant evening with some girlfriends so it was the perfect spot — not too crowded etc. I’m sure it’s fun later at night too. The neighborhood doesn’t have too much there so you’d probably want to spend most of your time there or nearby. The food was definitely quite good, I just thought it was a little overpriced.

Meh. Super overpriced and food is OK and nothing more. Flatbreads are probably the best thing I’ve had here. This place is overhyped TBH and probably only gets traffic because Right Proper is busy and/or there aren’t a huge amount of alike options in the couple of blocks.

Yummy brunch! We came on the fourth of July for brunch and the bottomless mimosas. The food was excellent. I tried the California eggs benedict, they use avocado in place of Canadian bacon. I throughly enjoyed my meal. The breakfast potatoes have a good seasoning as well, not quite cajun, but delish! Our waiter was great about keeping the mimosas flowing for a while. Eventually he stopped refilling, but started again once we asked. All in all I’d say this is the spot to check out. They seem to have a lot going on. There were a blues band and a hot dog eating contest scheduled for later that day. They also do a happy hour on the weekends in the early evening.

Cute neighborhood pub with outdoor seating and live music on Friday. We have passed this place several times and finally decided to stop in for a bite. This place might be good to grab a few drinks and watch the games because there are several tv’s and they were kind enough to change it to the playoff basketball game. But, those were the positives because the food and service was TERRIBLE. I saw Brussels sprouts on the menu and knew I had to get them. The waiter said they were roasted and super delicious. These Brussels sprouts tasted like the ones you had as a kid and your mother forced you to eat. They were bland and undercooked. It actually tasted like they were just thrown in a steamer. FAIL! I ordered the burger with pulled pork on top and that actually was flavorful. The Gouda was almost non existent on it. The BBQ sauce was sweet and smokey. The fries came out lukewarm and dry… dry…FAILAGAIN! My boyfriend got the Catfish filet and grits. He said they had potential but lacked seasoning. So, I’m thinking their seasoning delivery didn’t get there because there is no reason for everything to lack seasoning. The waiter took long to even take our order and didn’t bother to check on us once we got our food. The receipt has a survey and based on other reviews I see the manager is not paying attention and making appropriate changes. Shaw’s has potential because they use fresh ingredients but for the price they need to bump up their flavor profile. Paying $ 55 for two meals and one drink is a lot when it’s super disappointing.
