Strong $ 5 mules… how can you beat it? Was helped quickly and the outdoor seating was clutch.

A bit delayed on this review, but I highly recommend Sudhouse for any and all events! I had my birthday party/a fundraiser for a local nonprofit in their upstairs area«The Hooch.» It was a wonderful time! The staff and managers were very flexible and willing to work with me on dates, timing, music, and even gave me wristbands to give out to folks who donated for drink specials! We had probably around 30 – 35 people in the space, which easily accommodated us all. We had our own bar and bartender, a sound system to hook up my birthday playlist, and space to sit, talk, dance, and play pool! Everyone who came had a great time and I would definitely have future events there.

Great place. Low key. Good happy hour snacks and Moscow mule’s for a good deal! One of my go to spots since I moved to DC at the top of the year. Go alone or go with friends. Great experience every time.

Friendly neighborhood bar where we grabbed a drink one afternoon with friends. Although I don’t think they were open, they let us in to get some drinks. They were out of Allagash, but I found a comparable beer. Further, someone brought out a bowl of water for my friend’s dog. Awesome. Lots of activity to watch from the patio. Considering we were the first patrons there, the place was pretty empty. However, inside was DC muralist Aniekan Udofia working away on another mural. Cool. Would definitely return.

Nice neighborhood bar. Friendly bartenders, good choice of beers and tasty bites. Fish Tacos, «fabulous».

A great bar with delicious food, and great drink choices. The staff is my favorite in the entire city — the fact that they really care about the customers really show. It’s a great local spot, with multiple floors, and a decent amount of bar space. As I’m reading the reviews below I’m realizing I should make it up above the first floor next time!

First of all, 4⁄5 stars for the Moscow mule: it was a good balance of ginger beer, vodka, and lime juice! Came here for quick drinks on a Saturday evening and it was pretty empty except for a group of girls at the end of the bar. Atmosphere was cozy in my opinion, with an urban feel to it(the walls had graffiti and curse words written on it) and the music was ranged from deep house to chill edm. The only reasons why I didn’t give this place a 4 or 5 star rating was because of two things: the popcorn was covered in too much salt(but hey, it was free), and the bartender didn’t seem like he enjoyed serving me and two of my friends. He hardly cracked a smile. He would literally give us what we needed and went back to the other end of the bar to stand around the female customers and it was evident that he was definitely more engaged in giving them better customer service. He’d come back to us and have this whole change of mood and I thought that was pretty weird and alittle low-key rude. Great drinks though, nice to have the free, salty popcorn, but basic customer service can use improvement.

Due to a upcoming show, I had a very rushed happy hour here. I ordered the Teabagger Honey Jack(decent, very strong) and brussel sprouts & bacon, flatbread, and chili for me and my boyfriend. The flatbread was not flat at all, but more of a doughy regular pizza. Brussel sprouts were fried to perfection and very smelly(an indicator of how delicious they will be!), and the chili was hearty. Everything was very rushed so I can’t say much else.

Enticed by the promise of free popcorn and $ 6 Moscow mules during happy hour, my friends headed to Sudhouse on a Friday night to celebrate the end of the bar exam, only to have our inner strength tested even further by a maddeningly disappointing bar. As the clock was about to strike 8pm, we raced to Sudhouse for the final minutes of happy hour, only to be met by the masses crowding for two bartenders’ attention. After waiting for five-ish minutes, we were able to snag our $ 6 mules in time and even a table outside. Alas, the Moscow mule tasted like stank water + ginger ale. Maybe there was vodka in there? Couldn’t tell. It was bland, with none of the characteristic spiciness of ginger beer — and we were soon to find out why… When we went to close our tab, the bartender asked, «Was there enough ginger beer in there for you?» My friend said that it was a bit weak, to which he replied, «Yeah I thought so; we ran out of ginger beer. I’ll get you next time.» WHAT?! WHAT?! You fully admit that you deprived us of our ginger beer but then do not offer a measly discount or even an apology? I give Sudhouse 2 stars because there IS free popcorn after all, though you can only obtain it if you’re lucky enough to find a server nice enough to take some out of the machine for you(it is not self-serve, sadly).

I enjoyed happy hour here. Pretty good drinks and lots of fried food options if that is your thing(it certainly is mine). Minus 1 star because service was sorta hit or miss. Also I wasn’t offered any popcorn. Not too crowded earlier in the night but I imagine it fills up fast.

Happened to stop by during their happy hour and we just stayed for some drinks. I originally ordered one of their happy hour cocktails. The bartender told me that that they were out of honey jack, so I said normal jack is fine. A few moments later she said that she was missing another ingredient for the drink… ok. So I just ordered a Moscow mike instead. My dad ordered a hot toddy, which he said just tasted like hot water & rum, no honey or spices. Besides the drinks, the atmosphere was nice and the bartender was friendly.

Hot spot for my 30th Birthday Party. Upstairs space was FREE to reserve. Staff were all smiles and super helpful. Strong drinks and lots of fun. The space was big(90 ppl), private bar, pool table, seating on the edges, private bathrooms, delicious catered tacos and bar food. Everyone had a great time and the manager & bartender couldn’t have been sweeter, patient, and caring. Love this place. So glad its in my neighborhood. Chill vibe and just perfect!

I love Sudhouse, I’ve been here on a date, I’ve come for a birthday party. This bar in DC is literally the chillest bar for any occasion. If you come here on a weekday after 5pm to close you will be surrounded by business professionals of any age as well as young millennials of the legal drinking age to the older generation of millennials. The barkeeps here are always so friendly. When I came here on a date, the boy I was with was so nervous he spiked his 75% spent beer all over the countertop and the bartender laughed made a joke about being with a pretty lady and gave him a new one of the house. There also always seems to be a special going on, sometimes it’s a $ 5 glass of wine other times it’s shots of the bartenders choice. Honestly this is the place to go if you like the people you’re with and want to unwind over a drink. There are also regulars that come here alone just to chill after a long day. I can’t say enough good things about this bar, but honestly if you’re on U-street you might as well come and check it out for yourself!

$ 3 beer and $ 3 Corndog with Fries?! That’s cheaper than going to Chipotle. The Happy Hour here is great. $ 3 standard domestics and $ 3-$ 4 bar food. My wifes favorite is the $ 5 Moscow Mules and the deep fried brussel sprouts with bacon. Their general menu is pretty cheap too. No tapas or gimmicky dinky finger food that’ll leave you feeling hungry or robbed because you spent $ 20 on 3 bites of chicken nuggets on a stick drizzled with soy ginger garlic glaze. Our 2nd time going to Sudhouse, my wife was craving a burger so she ordered the sliders. They were GROSS. The meat tasted like leftover middle school burger meat. It was rubbery and bland.

FREEPOPCORN. SOLD, SOLD, SOLD. Popcorn is made in an old timey popcorn machine… this place is a pretty standard bar, with a flair, arcade machine, mezzanine, chill bartenders, but it’s the popcorn you can munch on that made the place for me. I would totally come back again, it’s not overly stimulating, like a lost society, but right in the thick of things, and next to plentiful of rowdy bar options, to obviously get your crunk on.

First time in Sudhouse, it was nice and they have a decent happy hour menu. I do like the free popcorn they provide, it makes them unique. A great place to pop in for a few beers for sure. I will be returning.

Happy Hour review: Decent deals, starts at 4pm. However they were out of limes so they made my vodka tonic with a lemon? It was odd. I would come back.

Sudhouse has been a great go to bar for me since it opened earlier this year. I usually go at least once a week either to hang there for a night or as a jumping off point to meet friends before bar hopping. Great selection of beer and food as well(Chicken Avocado wrap!). I also used their upstairs party space(The Hooch) for my 30th birthday party and for a company Happy Hour. It’s a perfect location and space for decent size crowds. I feel like both events had around 30 – 50 attendees with folks coming and going through the evening. I’m sure I’ll def coming back here for years to come!

As far as the Happy Hour goes it’s ok if you don’t mind drinking Bud Light on draft or cans of Genesee, PBR, or other American Adjunct lager for $ 4 and $ 3 respectively. Was hoping some of their craft beers on tap would be on HH special but none were when I came. $ 5 Moscow Mule seems like a good deal but for those coming here with their 2015 Passports will be sad to see that it’s not part of the BOGO deal. A word about the DC Passport for 2015: the special says«Beer, wine, or cocktails» but does not specify«select» or «rotating taps», etc. It does seem the Passport is limited to Bud/BL, AAL cans, wine, and rail cocktails, the top four or five items on the HH menu. Or perhaps it is more open and the language barrier between me and the servers was the problem. I don’t know. Aside from that this seems like a cool spot to come when it’s not crowded. I can see the area along the bar being a human carwash when things get popping, impeding your path to the back section, bathrooms, or upstairs. Would like to try more of the food too. The fried dill pickles where OK, but the Brussels & Bacon dish was good, probably because the Brussels sprouts were lightly dredged in flour and deep fried :) It’s still a new spot so I hope they only get better!
