Bomb diggity happy hour from 3−7pm and what’s even more awesome? Late night happy hour from 10 — midnight! They have one of the best happy hour menu in the DMV. If you are ever craving for some delicious drinks and food, make the trek out to Slate Wine Bar + Bistro! The bartenders are creative. We tried one of their winter special cocktail with nutmeg shaved on top, the drink had a sweet cinnamon flavor and the nutmeg added a nice aroma. Take a look at their happy hour menu online, it’ll make you drool a little. The prices? Will keep your wallet happy. The happy hour is only at the bar, so be sure to get there early. There are limited seats. My favorite food items: the burger, juicy delicious medium rare meat on a sweet brioche bun. The duck egg rolls, with the honey mustard. YUMMY. My favorite cocktail: BLT Bourbon Lemon Tonic. It has become one of our staples at home, we make it at home often for our guests, one of our favorites. 2 bourbon 1 lemon tonic to top. Street parking out front.

I WANT to like this place. I really do. It’s cool looking and I wandered around memorizing the décor so I can run home and tell my husband that I want that chevroned wine rack, and the pallet wall, and that luscious color of moody blue on the walls. I came here for lunch on a Wednesday. The apps are good. Egg rolls YUM. The crab cake sandwich is NOT. Surprisingly flavor low, and a nearly white tomato(and not on purpose). The dressing on the pretty mixed greens salad plated with it was also odd(mostly oil) with a few mustard grains, and not tasty. I only finished the crab cake and accompanying salad because I was starving. It was bad enough that I would be afraid to try anything else here for fear of wasting the money. Maybe next time I’ll just come hear to look sexy holding a drink… and eat dinner somewhere else. Sorry :(

If this were just a wine bar I’d give it four stars as that experience was great. The selection of wine flights were well put together. However, Slate receives a «F“on the Bistro end. Supposedly, the word«bistro“come from Russian bistro meaning«fast.» Our experience was anything but. We were in a bit of time crunch and told our server that. He said it would not be an issue and would let the kitchen know. Note: there was only one other party in the restaurant at that time. 30 minutes later, still no food other than the appetizers we originally ordered. The restaurant did take the other items off the bill though but never provided an explanation of what the foul-up was. Based on other reviewers, Slate seems to be fine enough and staff are nice and accommodating. Our experience, however, was just not up to snuff.

Nice little place. Everyone friendly. A little laid back style but service was good — no real complaints. $ 15 all you can drink mimosas /blood mary’s. Brunch was decent. Crab cake benedict pretty tasty… Overall it was good, but nothing blew my mind. Would definitely give it another shot though and try the dinner menu. Oh and half-off bottles of wine on Wednesdays sounds tempting…

I’m not a «yelper» and this is my first ever review. Came here on a Saturday with a group of friends after the Escape Room a couple of blocks down the road. It was a bit small and TVs only at the bar. Unfortunately for me I couldn’t watch the playoff games because of where I was sitting. Coming from Baltimore, this place was a little too pricey for me. My wife wanted some wine so she ordered a wine fleet(sp). Four glasses(white, red) half way filled for $ 28…geez. She ordered the crab cake and it was $ 24. Being from Baltimore I expected a decent size crab cake with lump crab meat. Nope. It was pretty small, had a lot of filler, and it only came with nine roasted potatoes. It didn’t taste bad, but I had higher expectations. I got the $ 14 burger and added the bacon for an extra $ 2. It was good but the bacon wasn’t smokewood as advertised. The service was slow, but the staff was nice and friendly. One was a little flirtatious so married men steer clear. Will I go back if I’m ever in the area, probably not. Perhaps for a happy hour that featured a more reasonable prices menu with better options than the dinner menu. Add in my two drinks with the wine and the food, my bill was $ 120 with tip included. Wasn’t worth it for me. 3 out of 5

Not wanting to go wild partying this year for New Year’s Eve, my fiancé and I opted to go to dinner instead. We weren’t looking for anything super fancy, but we wanted a good meal, drinks and a laid-back environment. Slate ended up being a perfect fit for that, so we reserved a late dinner. We opted for their New Year’s Eve prix-fixe menu which was a 6-course meal for $ 60 and a wine pairing for an additional $ 30. The first course was fish roe spread over bread, which was a nice start. For the second course I had duck egg rolls, which I didn’t particularly like, but if I’m being honest, I shouldn’t have picked that option since I don’t even like egg rolls and I’m not a big fan of duck. I don’t know what I was thinking. The third course was a rosemary lamb chop which was good, nothing special. Fourth came the risotto, which was rich in flavor and was only outdone by the next course, the filet mignon which was a perfect medium rare. The mashed potatoes that came along with it were a bit cold, but the filet was so good that I could only care so much. The 6th and final course was the buche de noel, which I had never tried before but loved. The wine pairings were perfect for each course, but they weren’t always dropped off at the same time as the food so we spent some time waiting so we could have them together. We had some cocktails after dinner(the Unholy Marriage is delicious) and were given some champagne to toast with at midnight. The atmosphere was great, laid back but still festive, and the staff was friendly and fun, but never intrusive.

Not worth the price of admission. Service was great, wine was OK, but the food was awful. I had the vegetable paella which was the saltiest food ive ever eaten. It was supposed to come with asparagus and I’m not sure there were any. And the rice was under cooked. A friend I was with had the crab cake and said she expected more lump for the price. My wife had the burger and was OK with it.

I’m not much of a party animal, so my preferred New Years Eve tradition is an early seating for a prix fixe dinner, preferably somewhere offering wine pairings. To say goodbye to 2015 I chose Slate, and despite a few minor hiccups, it proved to be a solid choice. The ambiance of the place is nice, very low-key with just some framed corkscrews of various types for décor, and whoever’s Pandora station they were playing was very hip, a bunch of electronic remixes of indie rock songs. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, quick to refill a water glass and constantly checking in to make sure everything was good. The only glitch with the service was a seeming inability to time the arrival of my wine with the food, twice arriving after I’d had several bites and once well before the course came. A very minor inconvenience though, and overall everything went very smoothly. The food was all delicious, nothing too daring but not boring choices either. The starter of fish roe and some kind of spread on a slice of baguette was a nice amuse bouche, salty and savory but not overwhelming. The appetizer, duck egg rolls, is apparently a popular specialty of the house, and with good reason. The main course was the most traditional, a simple petit filet mignon au poivre with mashed potatoes, and their chef knows how to cook a filet properly to the point of melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The dessert was some chocolatey crunchy layered concoction and I should have asked for the recipe, it was that good. The wine pairings with each course were spot on, perfectly complementing the flavors of the dish, as you’d expect from a wine bar. Aside from what I thought were slightly small portion sizes and wine pours(the whole meal was $ 40 plus $ 20 for the wines, so you get what you pay for), my only quibble was that the mashed potatoes had gone lukewarm when they arrived and the dessert was still cold from having, I assume, been prepared well in advance and refrigerated. Overall this was an excellent way to close out the year, and I left feeling quite satisfied. I suspect the little nitpicks I have were mostly a function of having chosen the early seating, when the kitchen is likely still getting into the swing of things in anticipation of the main event later on. If their NYE service is indicative of a normal evening at Slate, I would definitely come back in 2016.

Booked our dinner here 2 weeks in advance since we’re visiting DC. I had researched both Eater 38DC and Gayot for best restaurants in DC, both came up with Slate. We have it a try last night. Staff are nice and accommodating. We asked to be moved to another table due to the cold draft that’s coming from the front door, and they moved us without hesitation. Service was very good, attentive wait staff. We ventured on their 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Great choice! Love their scallops and risotto. Great wine pairings!

Read review on duck breast with Brussels Sprouts so had to go while in Georgetown on business. Happy hour from 3 – 7 but also half price wine on Wednesdays. Ordered an Oregon Pinot Noir. Paired well with the buck. Loved the Brussels Sprouts too!

I stumbled on Slate one afternoon, and I’ve been hooked since. I have been here several times, but this is my first review. I must say the bartender is the reason why I keep returning. He is friendly, funny, and an excellent mixologist. He always gives us something special that we have never tried before. I love their happy hour menu and specials. I give the mussels and french fried 5 stars. I can’t get enough of their shoestring fries. They are always hot crispy and delicious. The grilled cheese is at a 3 for me. I really love the bread and buttery taste, but the cheese combo isn’t quite up my alley. The mac and cheese gets a 3 as well. It is hot and cheesy and looks delicious. I just wish the flavor profile was a little more deep. I think the recipe relies too much on the diversity of cheeses used, but the flavor is lacking for me. Overall I would give Slate a 5 for the wine and cocktail service and a 4 for food. I have not had any of their plated dinners. I love their bar area and happy hour menu so much I haven’t ventured out. I will let you know if i do.

Amazing little bistro in the heart of Glover Park. The bartender is amazing and makes the best mojitos in DC as far as I’m concerned. The mussels are delicious and the fries are seasoned with just the right amount of aioli. If you’re looking for a late night snack, this is definitely the place to try!

This was a spur of the moment restaurant week pick. We tried their special restaurant week menu with one wine pairing. The duck spring rolls got a big thumbs up with the sauce being exceptional. I went for the crab cake, which came with a Brussel sprout salad and fried cubed potatoes. My husband got the steak with frites. My meal was ok, the crab cake not being memorable. The Brussel sprout salad was the crisp and delicious. Potatoes standard. Hubby’s steak was tasty, fries boring. The peach dessert was nice, but the chocolate pudding was too heavy. The sommelier was excellent and knowledgeable. He could probably do better than this middle of the road place. The wines with the exception of the merlot were paired nicely.

Slate is a small wine bar and two-level restaurant at the northern end of Georgetown, right on Wisconsin. There are not that many tables, but several of them were big. Although Slate is billed as a wine bar, it has a full restaurant menu, and the food was excellent. I’ll certainly recall the food more than the wine, which was fine, but just not memorable. I had the roast duck(there is oddly a lot of fowl on the menu) with rice and vegetables, and quickly cleaned the plate. Duck can be too fatty for my tastes sometimes, but they got it perfect here. There was a whole page of appealing dessert options. The brownie sundae is not that exotic, but the rich chocolate brownie and creamy vanilla ice cream were great! The service was excellent and if ever back in Georgetown this might be my first stop.

My new favorite! My fiancé and I came in on a Saturday around 6pm. We quickly found out it was happy hour! Happy Hour on a Saturday? So awesome. We sat at the bar and Alahin made us unbelievably good cocktails. You can watch him put serious care into the drinks. He uses homemade syrups and delicious cut right there garnishes. We had the Francis Underwood, Valenica Gin and Tonic, and an Old Fashioned. SOOOO good! If I had to choose one it would be the Frank Underwood. We also ordered the cured meat and cheese plate which was amazing as well. Alahin told us about their brunch pre fixed menu and based on what we had experienced so far, we made a reservation right then and there. We went this morning and it did not dissapoint. We both had the duck breast egg rolls which are the best egg rolls I’ve ever eaten. Ever. We also had the slate burger which other than slightly more medium then the requested rare, was delicious. He got the brownie and I had the tres leches cake. I am still craving that cake– so light and perfectly balanced. I chose the wine pairings with each dish and my fiancé chose the bloody marys. After having both I say get the wine pairings! They really do pair well and make the meal that much better. Takeaway is amazing food and service for a serious value. This place is not overpriced like most trendy DC spots. We can’t wait to go back!

We stopped in for happy hour. The menu they offer during happy hour is nice, they offer some great prices on nice items, like fish tacos, which they can fry or pan sear — either way was awesome! Their fries are good and their over roasted olives were amazing! Only issues with their happy hour is that they offer a smaller serving of food, rather than the normal amount for a special, low happy hour price. They also only offer $ 7 drinks/wines, which is also rather high, as $ 5 is a «normal» price. The servers were friendly and happy to have us. Restaurant was nicely decorated and clean.

A bit disappointed in Slate to be honest. I’ve been meaning to come here for some time and I made the choice to come in on a whim with a friend one Saturday night. No, we didn’t have reservations and the wait staff made it quite obvious this was inconvenient for them even though we were seated right away. It’s a small place, so plan to hear everyone else’s conversation. I have to guess that maybe if I had been on a romantic date it would seem intimate and less claustrophobic? The table next to us actually asked the wait staff to move to a different spot because they didn’t want to be a part of our conversation. I don’t blame them. As for the food and staff. Both meh. The food was not bad but nothing wonderful or nearly worth the prices that we were charged. The staff was cold and always seemed frustrated when we had questions. It was pretty off putting. I can’t say I’ll be back anytime soon, but maybe people have had better luck with a different setting?

Came here with a friend for happy hour and it’s not too shabby. The happy hour was decent and I really enjoyed that it was a cute and quiet place to grab a glass of wine on a weeknight. The house wine that was on happy hour($ 7) was great! With that said, there were 3 other people at the bar and it took like 15 minutes to close out our tab because the manager was buying shots for the young ladies. Quite the classy move on a Wednesday at 6pm! They also kept trying to take our plates away with half the food left on them, which was really strange. We weren’t eating particularly slow or anything. I’d probably come back here if I was in the area but I don’t think I’d ever go to Glover Park just for this place.
