Really really great. I love it. Try some oxtail or curry goat for first timers. Be warned: the jerk chicken is meant for people who have been eating jerk chicken their whole life. Tourists beware.

Tiny place. Spicy but flavorful and tender wings. Decent beef patties. Really nice guy who works there.

Alright. I wanna be straightforward with this place. other reviewers has compared this place with places in nyc. plz do not do is like food haven. if you are comparing nyc restaurants to restaurants in dc, md, va then we are literally eating is great place but not md for food. This is really a nice carryout food place. even though i order very few times from here because of the really too much expensive price tag. They used to have a reasonable price but now its really untouchable for a regular customer. Overall try once if you like to try and then try twice if you can afford it continuously.

This was such a great lunch! I ordered the Bus Driver Special and I went for the curry chicken. Very yummy. The owner was so extremely nice. Such a beautiful person. Too bad I live in the other side of town. Otherwise I would be there all the time!

I’m from brooklyn so I was raised oh acing easy access to REALLY good and AUTHENTIC jamaican food. This food was not seasoned well and the oxtails were tough and not falling off the bone like they should! This restaurant is only durning because it’s in Tacoma where the majority of the residents don’t have any connection or frame of reference for what REAL West Indian food tastes like.

WTF to the 4-stars!!! I was so hyped to visit Spicy Delight after being blinded by the 4-stars on Unilocal. This is in addition to attempting to call in an order the other night but told«we ran out of food.» Thought to myself, «awww shit, they ran out of food so I know it must be good.» Coulda fooled me. These previous positive reviews had to be from folks that didn’t know any better when it comes to Jamaican food. I can’t imagine any Jamaican or West Indian of sound mind, body, & soul writing a positive review for Spicy Delight… unless they are a relative/friends of the owner. This place survives due to location: directly across from a Metro station where people come out starving for whatever they can get from a long work day, or Metro workers ending a long shift; transplant hipsters from regions of the country/world where they have never had authentic Jamaican food. I am a DC native and have lived quite a few other places in between and this is the WORST Jamaican food I’ve had not in just this area, but in life. And as another poster mentioned, the food made me feel sick. The watery tasteless curry chicken, pre-packaged roti that tasted as if it had sat on a counter where the chemical cleaning spray had not been whipped off completely. Barf. Have you ever experienced when a hospital cafeteria or chain grocery store hot bar decides to get«fancy» and make curry chicken… that is level and taste of their curry. Rest in peace Sweet Mango Café, please come back from the dead. In the interim for better options check our Teddy’s Roti Shop or Crown’s Caribbean Bakery that also offers food.

I’ve coming to this spot for many years. The food is authentic and very good. I love getting either the brown stew or jerk chicken.

If you’re looking for good food, cooked and handled with love, you want to go to Spicy Delight. Try the jerk, Oxtails(very meaty), patties… it’s all so delicious! Auntie Pauline & Mr. John are such sweet-hearted people. Meet me there on Fridays, with cash in hand. BTW: My nephew picked up oxtails for my birthday. Im sure I’ll see lots of him on this side of town, now that he’s hooked. He said he’ll bring his dorm buddies along for the experience, next time.

I am working locally and decided to search for a restaurant within walking distance with good reviews. — This place was not it. I am very disappointed(to say the least) that I just wasted $ 16 on a plate of jerk chicken(white meat) and coco bread. The rice and peas and cabbage were soso and at least edible. The chicken was 1) of poor quality it had a rubbery consistency, 2) not well cooked(white meat chicken should be falling apart, not so tough that I can’t cut easily with a fork). The price I chalked up to being in this expensive metro area, however the horrendous quality of the food makes me want to return the food(no mind that I won’t receive a refund.

Visiting friends in Silver Spring, and decided to grab some Caribbean food on my way to see them. And, because it literally is right across the street from the Takoma metro station, it was all the more convenient to get to. Miss Spicy is so nice! She heard I was visiting from out-of-town, and threw in a tofu patty on-the-house with my order! I highly recommend the barbecue chicken. — No inside seating — Cash only — Look out for Friday specials

The food is out of sight! Some of the best home cooked Carribean food around. I usually get the oxtail with red beans and rice with cabbage. Kids love the beef patties. One day I asked what did she use to make the carrot juice drinks with and she told me to take a cup and try it for free. Mind you the cup was like $ 4.50. Really nice couple never forgets your name. Most importantly food is awesome. Oxtail dinner is about $ 9.00 and worth it.(They are closed Saturday and Sunday because the couple caters).

I really want to give Spicy Delight 5 stars but they keep increasing their prices! I’ve been a devoted customer for 2 years now(I worked down the street) and the food is always consistent and absolutely delicious! I love spicy food so the jerk chicken is just perfect but it’s probably too spicy for most people so be prepared. Curry chicken is also great(less spicy). You can tell the chicken has been stewed for a long time because they melt off the bone. I have also had their rib special as well as the fish soup, both are solid. My vegetarian coworker also recommended their veggie special! The portions are good — you can make two meals out of an entrée so it can def fill someone with a bigger appetite. Make sure to call in your orders because they take 10 – 15 minutes.

The food is a bit on the expensive side for a hole in the wall with no seating. BUTHERE’S WHERETHINGSGETWEIRD!- I cook and purchase jamaican food all the time and I like spicy food, but Spicy Delight’s jerk chicken is way too spicy for me. Right now I got a runny nose headache and a numb tongue after eating it. I like jerk but this is unbearable. I spoke to the person who answered the phone and she basically told me that because they’ve been in business for 20yrs and the word«spicy» is in their name, that I should have known what I was getting into. I told her that I am a new customer and when you have something with that«heat level» you should at least put it on a sign or indicate that on the menu to warn customers. She spoke respectfully and asked me if I wanted to try something else but I’m not so sure that anything else eaten there is going to leave me feeling any better than the jerk chicken did. I won’t be eating from here again BECAUSE they obviously don’t care about potential/new customers enough to clearly educate them about their product after being in business for 20yrs!

This place doesn’t having any seating; orders are takeaway or call-in. I usually get a jerk chicken sandwich, but they also have various patties(not enough stuffing, in my opinion), entrees with rice, stews, and sides. The chicken is tender and well seasoned. I find myself coming back almost weekly!

Great food! I eat carribean food ALL the time and I have to say this is pretty good! I’ve had spicier jerk chicken and better cocoa bread but truly overall I enjoyed my meal! The couple who run this restaurant are very pleasant. I honestly wish they had a bigger place because I would love to bring my friends through for lunch or something.

Don’t let the modest storefront and interior fool you. This place KICKS A$$! Spicy Delight is my other«kitchen” – satiating my growling stomach and grouchy & grumbling vegetarian family members for more than 10 years. Try the spinach patties and Mr. John’s perfectly peppered vegetable soup(it rivals my Jamaican grandmother’s version but let’s never speak of this again). Superb!

This place is not for the light hearted. I came here with my two little ones based on the reviews. I ordered a beef patty, chicken patty, jerk chicken dinner, and two orders of fries(regular & spicy). The patties are what I would call hand pies filled with a curry meat mixture. Considering I was there when the food supply man came, the patties are pre-packaged from an outside vendor then cooked here, not made at the restaurant. They were quite tasty though the filling and the pastry were a tad heavy on the palate. The jerk chicken was flavorful and super spicy. I am of Thai descent and definitely appreciate spicy food so when I say it’s spicy, those that cannot handle even black pepper should definitely not try eating here. Thee jerk chicken was served with cooked shredded cabbage and a red bean/rice mix. The portion size was significant. Be sure to specify dark meat or white meat as the default will be white meat which is a bit more expensive. Oh, and the fries… I adore the French fries. They are crinkly, deep fried, and devine! Not a fat free food by any stretch of the imagination. They’re excellent balance of greasy, crispy, and soggy. Fantastic when they’re hot and still crazy good when they’ve been sitting out for a bit. Not something I can eat on a regular basis without having to take cholesterol medication. The only reason for the 1 star deduction is that there is limited selection for those of your party that can’t handle spicy food. My kiddos couldn’t enjoy much of the food I got because it was way too spicy for them. Overall, I would highly recommend Spicy Delight.
