So I read the previous reviews first and decided to call in my order. I tried the jerk chicken, chicken patty and coco bread. Everything was excellent. The cabbage was delicious. This will definitely be my go to Caribbean spot. And it’s two blocks from my house. The sign no longer reads taste of Caribbean. It also stated under new management. Hands down the food was great.

I was curious to see what kind of goodies this place may have to offer and I must say that I wasn’t missing much before I set foot into the front door which shares the entrance to a real estate company. Coming from werk I decided to take a detour uptown to quell my hunger and kill my curiosity and boy was it killed… to death… The lady seemed nice enough as she found my stall over the menu and enthusiasm amusing .I decided on the curry goat with a side order of curry chicken to soak up the ungodly amount of rice and peas I was given… the vege dishes are at the top of the menu so maybe that’s a sign i should have heeded… i swear i am the dumbest person on earth sometimes… anyway I wait about 5 minutes as she prepares my styrofoam and aluminum transports with a plastic carrier and I hope it onto the funnest bus in dc(70) to new hampshire and we’re half way there… getting on my side of town I am excited to try my goat goodness for all it’s worth and I swear I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. I said to myself that this is the way they must make curry in Guyana… boy did I want to like it… but I didn’t…I was oily as hell. it was runny… the meat was dry… especially the goat and it was lax in the flavor category… I really wanted to like it seeing that I don’t see too many guyanese shop owners anywhere. not that I know of anyway and TOTC2 was a disappointment. I am considering going back just to see if ordering something else might change this review because I like to see people thrive but I was the only one there and it seems like she doesn’t get much business… maybe I’ll get a vegetable dish and some of the regional specialties but I wonder ho wyou can have buss-up-shots with the best buss-up’s being served not even a block away at Teddy’s.not a smart move and with other much better carribean food not that far away in any direction I wish this lovely young woman all the best.

I guess there is some truth to that commercial about how life is slower in the Caribbean because like the first reviewer(Chris C), the lady working at TotC2 was locking up shop 45 minutes before advertised closing time. But I guess she was in a good mood today because she unlocked the door and invited me in to get some food to take home. [Note: while I was waiting for my order, two other people tried to get in the restaurant but were not as successful as I]. I ordered the goat roti, a side of spinach, doubles, and some oxtail stew. I was unfortunately informed that they didn’t have enough spinach left to make a full order but was told they’ll make whatever they can and throw it in for free. The doubles was very tasty and in no time flat I had scooped up the spiced chickpeas with the warm fluffy bread. A definite hint of cinnamon and cardamom with the chickpeas was awesome. The goat curry was bound tightly by the roti bread and unfolding the roti was like Christmas as I caught a glimpse of the meat and a whiff of the spices. The curry had seeped into the roti which was good because the bread was not as moist as most roti I have had. The meat was very tender, falling of the small bones that were still attached. I mixed the spinach in with the goat curry and was it ever so delicious.(Now I thought to myself, ‘Why is it that most of my favorite food is stuff I eat with my hands?’ Think about it…) At this point, I probably should’ve stopped. I was comfortably full and the container of oxtail stew was quite heavy, but after looking at it I thought to myself«Gee, I don’t know if this will reheat very well, I guess I’ll just eat it now.» Well, I’ve never had oxtail stew before and to be honest I didn’t find it to be very pleasing. Served over rice and beans, the sauce lacked character and the pieces of oxtail were overly fatty; I know that oxtail isn’t a very lean cut to begin with, but these were almost all fat. Perhaps the meat fell off the bone during the cooking process and I wasn’t lucky enough to get much of it. Needless to say, after all that food I was stuffed. Since has certificates for this place, I’ll probably be heading back to try other dishes(no more oxtail stew, though). So 2⁄3 of the food I got was quite delectable and I was thankful that they fired up the grill and everything to get me some dinner, even though technically they should’ve still been open. I think maybe they close early when they run out of food because I had inquired about several other dishes on the menu of which they had none remaining. I guess the best thing to do is head in for lunch or early dinner. Perhaps the proprietors need to re-evaluate their supply purchasing because frankly it would be a shame for people to continue getting turned away because they keep running out of food.

No clue how the food is – and since they closed ninety minutes early last night, I’ll never know. No sign posted or anything. That isn’t exactly how you run a business.
