Great location just steps Eastern Market Metro. A great meet up spot for a day at the market or checking out some of the many area restaurants. A professional and friendly staff of seasoned veterans.

Always crowded. Hard to concentrate if you want to have business meeting or study. Employees are friendly and never had customer service issues. This place should be expanded.

After reading all the other posts, most which are negative, I can say that I agree with poor management, rude employees, slow lines and overall poor customer service. After having a few bad experiences myself I came to stomp my feet and write out the entire experience. Waste of time. This Starbucks seems not to care because after reading years of complaints on Unilocal this Starbucks seems to care nothing for customer service or improvement. I’m sure they won’t miss my three dollars and change, but to me that will add up nicely at any of the other great businesses in the area who thrive on providing great customer service and an inviting and warm environment.

My friend and I visited here twice, and I do not think they are nice or polite. I felt so uncomfortable when i ordered my beverage. I will not visit here ever even though I love the Starbucks coffee.

At times this location can move very slow. Not a 100% pleased today with the attention to customers in line.

We come here almost every day and the staff is outstanding. They remember our order and we don’t have to wait long for our order. We recommend this location as not all locations are the same.

At 8:30 am on a Tuesday on Capitol Hill, they have ONE person preparing coffee. What the heck? The line was out the door, everyone was out the door with people anxious to get to work. They need to hire more staff and stop being cheap.

Coming here all these years and still can’t figure this place out. This branch opened before the V8 strollers and frolicking Samoyeds turned Barracks Row into the Elysian wonk playground it is today, so kudos to them for being one of the first to believe in us. We reached this rainbow together. The issue is staff retention. With the exception of a couple solid long-timers who remind me why I keep crawling back to the Siren, the baristas here turn over faster than whoever is playing Gregor Clegane this week. I blame this on the steady wave of non-repeat customers stumbling over from the flea market, drunk on incense and lacquer fumes. You guys are masking the vital commercial signal I’m transmitting to the shift manager when I drop only a portion of my change into the register jar. It looks like my 2-star rating will actually boost the average, and I feel good about that because at the end of it all I believe in Starbucks too. And in the meantime I found a rocking new coffee shop just a few blocks away that I’m not telling any of you about.

Disgusting. This place should not be associated with the Starbucks name. Not only of they not have a clue how to make a decent drink the service sucks. Not to mention the place is full of homeless including men touching themselves while looking at the female guests while asking other customers for a handout.

One of the employees was really angry at something ! She kept banging and clanging while sweeping the floor! Was very rude and just hovering around us with a broom and a dust pan! DEFINITELY not atypical top notch Starbucks customer service! I am afraid to post this while I am still at the store ! Locked the bathroom at 8:40 and would not open it for customer!

I hate going to this place, even when I have a gift card or offer for a free drink, because the frustration and time waste are simply not worth it. They never have whole milk out(I loathe both half&half and skim), and I always feel like I’m hassling them so hard when I request it. The service is so slow and shitty. I’ve heard employee disputes as I order before, have been begged for money from the local homeless, and have been forgotten about numerous times. I work full-time on this block and am an always need coffee in my hand kind of consumer, but happily walk across to Peregrin when I have the time/coverage to do so(because lets face it, even the Dunkin Dounts service isn’t superb). As others have stated, they need a COMPLETEOVERHAUL at this location. I assume it’s hard to keep staff there… but other businesses in the area seem to be doing fine.

They’re lucky I have to give at least one star. Listen, I am a religious Starbucks follower, but this location is an outright joke. Every time I walk in here I forget I’m at a coffee house and feel like I’m at a homeless shelter. They either advocate homeless solicitation in their business or they just don’t care about their customers. I have no interest in being harassed while I’m in line… there’s no where to run… they’ve got you cornered! Then they make you feel uncomfortable if you don’t give them money! Isn’t there a law against aggressive solicitation in a public space? I’m not sure how they get away with the poor service and customer respect when THEREIS A DUNKINDONUT’S ACROSSTHESTREET! Get your act together… no more of my money is going in your register…

Why does nothing change at this location given all the scathing reviews? Staff always appears to either be in a daze… completely oblivious and they get orders wrong when transcribing and giving to the barista. They never smile. They look very«far away» like they are hung over or strung out. The barista takes it a step further and looks downright angry. And when you tell her your order is wrong, she takes it out on you by blaming you, even though her colleague wrote it incorrectly on the cup to begin with… She either hates her job, customers or her life… maybe all the above. Does anyone from Starbucks ever visit this location? A surprise visit should be in order. I suspect the only reason it’s still in business is due to the location and volume of business. Go to the location at 3rd and Penn SE, or go to Peregrine at Eastern Market.

I love Starbucks and I visit every location that I’m near. DC is full of Starbucks locations and Eastern Market is a great place for one… however…if this place were to shut down I would NOT be disappointed. And I actually have stock in the company! The staff is the problem. Several nights a week I walk in(about 5:45pm) and the rude lady behind the register takes my order. She usually is talking to her friends and ignoring me. Once my order is taken she repeats it back to me and it’s wrong… apparently Caramel Soy Latte means Vanilla latte in her language. After I correct her the drink goes on down the line where it sits… and sits… and sits… after the mandatory give minutes of waiting another person comes from the back and begins steaming milk and throwing cups around. I get my drink and it’s wrong. I’m not trying to sound like a snob but I expect better service for as much as I spend a month at Starbucks. This location needs a total overhaul. Fire everyone and start over. There are plenty of well deserving, hard working people who would appreciate those jobs!

creeeepiest starbucks in a «burgeoning» area with lots of noise and adequate service. Unfort I was a lazy ass who forgot what coffee places are in the area, only in the area to get my phone fixed(1hr wait), and didn’t feel like wandering in the cold — I should have wandered in the cold…

Generally unfriendly and sometimes ignorant staff with minimal social skills and slow as sh*t. Management turns a blind eye to the homeless folks using the inside and outside as their offices during the day. The place is dirty, the lines are long and the staff is «iffy» at best.

Solid Starbucks location for the Eastern Market area. Good staff, two bathrooms, and sufficient seating. Perfect if you’re getting something on the go. This is not the place for those who want a pristine experience overall – yes, there are some homeless folks that are nearby or inside. With that said, this location is one of the first nicer establishments that came up during the area’s transformation that started 10 or so years ago.

If you really must have that coffe fix I guess. If you can wait please do. Customer service is unprofessional. They are usually out of sugar, or half & Half milk. It’s located right outside the bus stop is. Outside the store is very dirty and a resting spot for beggers.

Get Your Life Together! How can you say you sell the NYtimes and have The Examiner in its place. Three days in a row I went to this starbucks and no paper. Nice people but nothing tops the service at Starbucks on 33rd and 8th Avenue in NYC. They greet you with a hearty good morning what can I get for you, they ask for your name. And then when they call your order, they call your name. And they always have the NYTimes. Common… Being nice isn’t enough in the Starbucks industry. People are paying for an experience… Otherwise they should just go to 7 – 11 down the street where I ended up buying my newspaper. — Starbucks needs to excercise some quality control around the brand delivery.
