I had a great experience here. The staff was courteous and very attentive to every detail about everything from water temperature to how my hair should be cut. I’ll definitely be going back. I’m giving 4 stars only because I wish they were a little cheaper.

So, I’ve had great color and cuts from the Studio Chique team, but went in today for a pedicure. Their attention to detail, great service and high standards keep me coming back. I had a really stressful day at work and needed to decompress. As always, Sevilla did not disappoint. She is meticulous and is really sweet. She also has a good eye for choosing the right polish color :) Everyone is really friendly and helpful. Besides nail services, I already have an appointment booked in February for a full sew in weave. Also, they sell some fabulous hair! Gotta love quality and convenience.

I actually come here very often and never have a problem. However today was the first day I ran into an issue. Thanksgiving holiday has just passed and they were closed and their voicemail system explained they would only be closed Thursday until Sunday. I booked an online appointment for today(Monday) and get to the salon and it was not open. I even called a couple of times and got only the voicemail. I am highly disappointed none of the staff has checked or reached out to customers who have booked online appts for this Monday especially if you would not be open though which was not advertised on the voicemail or website. I really don’t see why they weren’t open because Cyber Monday is not a recognized holiday. I spent my entire morning looking for a hair stylist and was even discriminated against because the only salons open in the area were Hispanic and they«couldn’t handle» my hair texture. There are only few salons that provide quality and comfort for Black women, and it’s always a shame when they disappoint you.

Visiting family in DC and desperately need my hair done. I called in and they were able to fit me in right away. I did not have to wait long to be seen. Candace was great and flat ironed me in no time. She left my hair feeling bouncy and healthy. I will definitely be back next time I’m in town.

I am flat out in love with this place! I came on Saturday to have the rest of my ombré filled in to full color. The first time I went, Octavia was able to lift my hair one time and I was on my way. This time she suggested a lift and tone to reduce the brassy color that my ombré had turned. I’m glad I trusted her opinion! I absolutely love my new color! The other plus about this place is that the other stylists seemed to make recommendations in the best interest of the clients as opposed to the best interest of their pockets. I overheard a stylist suggesting a different style of haircut that would flatter her face more. My nosey self also listened as a stylist talked to her client about how to maintain her hairstyle throughout the week. Last but not least, the woman who shampooed my hair(I don’t know her name, short blonde hair) has the hands of a magician! I absolutely loved the way she washed my hair! Thanks again Octavia! I’ll definitely be back for all of my hair coloring needs. Tip: you should know that all the services are a la carte so there is no shock when you check out. The stylists are usually pretty good about giving you an estimate before you get in the chair as long as you remember to ask.

This was definitely a cute salon. Very clean and friendly staff. I arrived early and I waited 5min to be seated at the bowl. I like the service and I respect that the stylist was knowledgeable and informed me about my hair. I requested a treatment and she educated me on why that was not necessarily something I needed. I appreciated that she was able to talk me out of a service that I didn’t need instead of taking advantage of an up-sale. My only gripe is that the hairstyle did not last overnight, once unwrapped the next morning the style was completely flattened. I blame myself for that one. I will definitely be going back for hair health and longevity.

N’Gina definitely slays with the flatiron, is masterful with sew-ins, and knows how to apply a relaxer. I know this seems pretty basic, but unlike other stylists at many other salons I’ve visited, I’ve never had issues with burns, inconsistent application of the relaxer to my hair, etc. I also love the fact that she applies the relaxer and does the majority of the service herself. I’ve never had color or natural styles done by N’Gina so I can’t comment on those. I knocked one star off for wait time. Once you’re in the chair, N’Gina is very quick and efficient, but there has been more than one occasion when I arrive and she’s working on a few other people, or she’s not there. I’ve never waited an exorbitant amount of time for her but it means alot to me to be seen as soon as I arrive.

This salon is excellent! Coming from California I was very stressed looking for another stylist that could straighten my hair AND my edges! The Salon is cozy & the workers are so nice! They make you feel right at home. Ngina is my stylist and she does an excellent job! My hair is always straight and silky, and she gets me in and out the salon! Go to her!!!

I will definitely be going back to Studio Chique! Candice was amazing and brought my hair vision to life! I called for a last minute appointment(11:15am for a noon appointment) and was able to be squeezed right in. The salon is very«chique»(ha) in décor and CLEAN! Candice and Robin were very friendly. I showed Candice a picture of the bob cut I wanted(I had shoulder length natural hair) and she definitely delivered. She even asked before she cut more length off which I definitely appreciated because let’s face it, some stylists def get scissor happy ok? I also really loved the fact that she used a hot comb(in 2015!) to straighten my hair before finishing the style with a flat iron. The cut is definitely precise and my hair is so lightweight with lots of movement. Totally obsessed and I love it! I wasn’t expecting to spend $ 90 on a cut(sheesh) but I must say it was definitely worth the money!

You will LOVE this salon!!! First of all the prices are amazing! You get what you pay for(Total style, class and a fun conversation). This is a salon that prides its self in communication, hair greatness and classy stylist! Candice is my stylist and she has my hair looking like a MILLIONBUCKS. I pay for this service every two months and she has me looking so good. I love this SALON!!!

I have been a client of Ngina’s for about three years and am so happy I found her! Like many others, I am a transplant to the area and I had a difficult time finding a stylist that was the perfect fit. Ngina is the perfect combination of hair care(natural as well as chemically treated) and ability to style in addition to accomplishing this in a timely manner. I am thrilled to have found Ngina and the ladies of Studio Chique!

I really don’t want to tell anyone about this salon because I love it so much but I have to because it was affordable and still a great experience. I’m a natural chick so every now and then I need a good blow out just to trim my ends and Octavia did just that for a reasonable price. The décor is cute but not too overwhelming and It doesn’t feel like I’m on Georgia ave while I’m there and as a DC native that’s saying a lot. My hair and my wallet is very happy.

I’m moving back to the DC area in a few weeks, but EVERYTIME I needed my hair done during one of my visits to the area I went back to Studio Chique to see Ngina. Again, best stylist I’ve every had! She can take an average haircut, redo it, and make it amazing! Even better, now Studio Chique is adding spa services such as facials and eyelash extensions, making the establishment a ‘one-stop shop’. Ahhh, my hair is so happy to be coming home.

What a team! Being a woman with natural hair who is unfamiliar with the DC hair scene(I’ve been in DC for almost two years for school, and I wanted to give my natural look a lift by adding color, and having cute, easy-to-maintain natural hairstyles. Studio Chique was recommended to me by a colleague who’s hair is always pristine – and I’m glad I did. The following write-up will describe my experience with this salon over the past few months(Jan-March’2015). Since my first visit, I have been getting my hair styled every two weeks on Friday or Saturday in the early morning. Doing this has allowed me to observe a few things. First, N’gina is the colorist of dreams or as they say in Spanish, ’ El Colorista!” N’gina is the owner of Studio Chique and did a wonderful job lifting my short natural dark brown hair to a multidimensional look of medium brown, light brown and blond highlights. A look I love, which in turn receives many compliments! My second stylist is Hunnora – a versatile natural with beautiful locks who styles other naturals into funky natural looks(locks, lock maintenance, twist outs etc), Hunnora also styles chemically relaxed hair as well. Due to the length of my hair, I am rocking small to medium sized twists that have been pulled out into springy curls. This style was suggested by Hunnora and wears well on me even after a solid week of being very active. I am working out everyday for better health, mind and body, and I sweat profusely, and Hunnora’s style sustains the challenges I put by body through and continues to look very nice when I am approaching my next appointment. I highly recommend you check out this salon. Though my stylist are N’gina(for color), and Hunnora(for natural hairstyles), to be honest, I don’t think you can go wrong with who you select at this salon. I have taken note of the other stylists work(I can’t help it when I am sitting in the chair across from them). Understanding that styles are subjective, and based on what I have seen, the work from stylists: Octavia, Candice, and Kimberly’s weaves and blow-outs is nice and their clients of all spectrums(those of African and European descent) appear happy with the results. All of the stylist create a very collaborative work environment, and I often see stylists assisting with the clients of other stylists. A working environment I admire. In short, whether you are chemically treated with a relaxer, a natural who likes to straighten their hair, a natural rocking natural looks, or a woman who purchases her hair, I think Studio Chique will have you covered. Good luck with your hair journey!

This was a pretty bad experience. I went a few months ago, and saw Candice — she wasn’t very professional, so when I came back last weekend, I decided to try someone else, and I went to Hunnora. I got there on time for my 2:30 appointment, but no one was around, so the receptionist washed my hair after a reasonably short wait. I sat under a dryer and got shuttled around to a few different seats, then Hunnora came and got me. I wasn’t impressed with her manner or with the way my hair was done. Rough and uncomfortable blow drying, and the flat ironing took a long time, was very uncomfortable, and used a LOT of hairspray, which I don’t care for. She criticized me at length for heat damage to my hair, but she didn’t offer any products or solutions. My hair didn’t smell very good at the end, either. She started slathering holding cream on my edges, then asked me if I liked it. I told her I didn’t, and she told me neither did she, so that was a little perplexing. The price for what I was getting, «basic,» was $ 50+, so I thought I might have to pay more, but I didn’t expect the $ 65 I was charged. I stopped going to my last salon because I didn’t find them very professional, but this was somehow less professional, lower quality, and more expensive, so I won’t be back. Two stars instead of one because they had appointments available at the last minute and I was out around 4:30, which could have been a lot worse, given the atmosphere at the salon.

Hair salons are hit or miss depending on your stylist so having a bad styling experience to me doesn’t always warrant a review. I am writing this review because after reading all the other reviews I was hoping for an upscale hair salon regardless of how my hair turned out. Also since I paid an upscale price(80 for silk press and a 20 dollar tip) I felt like someone else might benefit from hearing my experience before booking an appointment. Styling Experience: After a mediocre shampoo job(shampoo girl arrived late so the receptionist washed my hair btw she was the only friendly employee at Salon Chique) the stylist came to retrieve me from under the dryer. Forgive me because I don’t remember my stylist’s name… well truth be told she probably didn’t share it because she wasn’t welcoming or friendly. In fact it was almost if she was doing me a favor by styling my hair. So I sit in her chair and she immediately begins with«Are you stressed?» «Do you have a medical condition?» In my head I am thinking: Ummm are you an M.D. or a cosmetologist? I explain to her that I recently had Senegalese twist removed and wanted a professional cut and handling of my delicate strands. She again asked me this time very loudly and in an almost disgusted tone if I had a medical condition. She then said I have major thinning in the crown of my head and should probably go with a pixie. Ha! I declined her suggestion and asked that she just blend in the damaged hair retaining as much length and possible. I ended up with a chin length bob straightened in a similar manner as a dominican salon. With no extra care or delicate treatment but with a lot more coins exchanged. The idea that you get/don’t get what you pay for will be explained below. Salon Ambience/Upscale Experience: Salon Chique has a slightly better aesthetic than your average salon but the customer service is lacking. There was no friendliness, no hair care advice or suggested products, and absolutely no professionalism within the salon. I don’t mind shop banter and actually enjoy it but upscale means I don’t have to listen to my stylists complain about how hungry she is, how late she was out, or wait while she places her breakfast order etc. In addition to that the owner and master stylist sees her clients above the regular shop presumably because she doesn’t want to hear the ruckus and complaints of the stylists in her employ. From what I gathered she does however dictate the music played in the«bottom salon». The stylists complained ad nauseam about the Christian music being played on a Saturday. As a customer I also found the music off putting. It was almost like Christian Disney music. No gospel, no smooth jazz or as the stylists suggested Bun Bee(?) *rolls eyes*. In short Salon Chique is overpriced, full of unprofessional stylists and doesn’t offer the upscale experience it totes on its website and in the reviews here on Unilocal

I thought that a little time would help me get over the most horrible hair experience I’ve ever had in my life. Well a week later and I’m still all the way in my feelings about this experience. I’ve never written a review before, but I thought that since this is where I learned of the salon it was only right to post my feedback here. Well let’s see, here’s a run down: New to the area, was looking for someone who could work with a short style, relaxed with a color. Stylist: Ngina Pros: very pleasant assistant, Robin(I believe) Cons: 1) Ngina was 45 minutes late arriving to the salon. My appointment was at 11am. She showed up at 11:45am. There was someone already waiting when I arrived. When she arrived she stated that she had several errands to run that morning. It was a Tuesday morning and if I wasn’t mistaken she had Sunday and Monday off. Now barring some emergency(which would be understandable) leisurely errands should not be scheduled the same time as your appointments. 2) I was a new client and I found Ngina to not be very pleasant, warm or friendly at all. I would have been happy with a «hello, welcome, nice to meet you», or something. Just some acknowledgment that I was new. Nothing at all. She came in and started working. 3) I was scheduled for a relaxer. And if you’re like me when you need a relaxer, I was excited! Lol. That all went out the window when she applied relaxer to my skin — front edges. Yes, my skin. After realizing it was there several minutes later she wiped it off with a towel too hard. My poor skin was on fire the rest of the day(and the next). It was red and eventually blistered up. 4) Now honestly, I could have probably dealt with the lateness, unfriendliness and application of relaxer to my forehead and not have even written this if it wasn’t for the butchering of my hair. That’s where all bets are off. I have a semi short style. My ends were in need of being trimmed, as is usually the case when you get a relaxer. The trim was a literal hack job to my hair. The most uneven cut I’ve ever received in my life. And I purposely use the word cut. I had no idea how bad it really was until I washed my hair and was able to see it straight. Again, I have a short style so I don’t have extra strands to give. I just don’t. 5) The styling left a lot to be desired. Tight curls. Had me walking out there looking like Shirley Temple. But honestly, I’d take the tight curls if I didn’t have to deal with 1 – 4! Overall, I was just not pleased at all. I know that there’s got to be good stylists in the area so I’ll continue to search. Happy Hair Trails!

Wish there was a ZERO. Everyone except the owner is rude. I had a 4pm appt, left at 11pm YES7hrs and the owner came down to tell them how to operate. I paid $ 200 for leave out extensions bc I was given a $ 25 discount for waiting only bc the owner came down to do that. Nobody else cared about all the screw ups. OMY! The big and tall receptionist whose also a shampoo girl? well she watered my entire face neck and my back when doing my shampoo. Had the nerve to say I moved, but why is the water head in front of me? Eventually 5hrs later when CANDACE is ready to get me in her chair… The owner came down to tell her I’ve been waiting too long and she shouldn’t be taking care 5pm appts when I came first?! Candace threw a tantrum like a 2yr old stomping upstairs bc I told her asked why was was I being skipped on my apt. Legitimate question. Grow up and answer the question. Geez they are the worse and have some nerve charging $ 225 ?! Never again will I spend my hard earned money there to waste my entire evening and also lost my dinner reservations bc they told me when I called before MAX2 ½hrs for the service. Now it’s 2weeks later and my hair is loose, a conplete WASTE. Don’t let the décor fool you. They’re garbage

After reading the reviews, I decided to try this salon. I’m originally from Cleveland have had my hair done by the same stylist for my entire life. I was extremely nervous about going to somebody new. I was scheduled for a relaxer touch — up and trim with Candice. Candice was extremely nice and eased my fears immediately. The salon was basically empty on the first floor except for the other employees. Candice included me in conversation and made me feel welcome. She also explained every step of the process to make sure I felt included in what was being done. After the relaxer I explained to her that I had A LOT of split ends and dead hair bc I hadn’t gotten done in quite some time, but that I wanted to try to maintain a little length. I silently prepared myself for at least 3 to 4 inches off bc it had been that long since I got it done. By the end of the trim, she had only taken off about an inch and half, which was great bc I still maintained some length. After everything, my hair has never felt or looked better. It feels super healthy and looks great! I thought she would’ve had to take off more to accommodate for all the split ends, but she made me look GOOD while only taking off a bit. I am so thankful for Candice!
