I like this Subway. It’s not exactly in the best of locations, so I would completely understand if someone gave you the side eye if you told them to go there. The area is fine during the day time, but one may pass on being in the area late night. But it’s Subway, why would somebody be at one late night? Because this location is 24 hours. A life saver for metro bus drivers and maintenance crew, police, firefighters, ems, etc. Also it’s next to Galludet, so if the students got the late night munchies it’s perfect. Now inside the first thing you will notice is the 2 inch thick bulletproof glass, as if it was the cashier at a casino behind. On one hand that might be proof that the area is sketchy, but on the other hand, it’s assurance that none of the coughing, sneezing, reach their hands over the glass to point instead of using their words when ordering types, dont get extra germs on your food. The customer service here is pretty good, and I think they keep the place reasonably clean.

As far as I know, this is the only 24-hour Subway in the city, and probably the DMV. It is VERY convenient for me since I work the Midnight Shift in that area. I love it!

We went to this Fort Knox… er… Subway shop, after visiting the nearby U-Haul and before entering A Literi, almost across the street. This Subway is literally a bank vault, an obvious reminder of pre-gentrification Washington, and a throwback to the Marion Berry’s Wild West days of crime, rats and gang warfare. The inch-thick bulletproof glass makes customer/service client all but impossible, but the food is good. Hopefully, the owners will realize that the days of Washington being a counterpart to Beirut are over. For Pete’s sake, the new ATF building is a stone’s throw away. The revolving carousel and security precautions discourage customers. Still, friendly service. And it’s nice to see what is rapidly becoming an anachronism in DC.

What is different about this subway from other’s is the fact that it is open 24 hours and have thick bulletproof glass between the prep area and the lines. This Subway is stationed in and near many neighborhoods that would be considered run-down or bad by many. Often time, you could see cops driving by(which is good in this area!) and occasionally you would see a few homeless persons loitering around there. Despite that, I have to say that the services from this particular Subway is as good if not better than most other Subway I’ve experienced, including one of the nicest Subway I’ve ate at in downtown DC. The employees so far are quick and respectful. A few of them even knows how to signs which is a great bonus for those like me who are deaf and walked across the road from Gallaudet University. Their foods are the same as every other Subway I’ve seen except that it may possibly be even more sanitary because of the very bulletproof glass also blocking air-borne microbes, heh. As I’ve said, they are quick so they make it easier for us to just pick and choose exactly what we want and send it straight to our hand without too much wait time between toasting(or hot meats) and consumptions. Again, despite the location and the crimes in the area, this Subway remains the favorite for Gallaudet University’s students and caters to us well. I can only hope that as the neighborhood improves that the Subway will continues to see success because it’s only the neighborhood that made me take off the one star, nothing about this Subway by itself really warrant it. P. S. I suspect that knowing sign language enabled some of them to be quick since they only need a few visual cues to pick out what we want right away without wasting times confirming vocal orders, heh. Just my personal opinion.

It’s just like every other Subway, of course, except it is(1) open 24 hours and(2) friendly to deaf people, since Gallaudet is right across the street. I find the bulletproof glass kind of off-putting, but it’s super convenient so I do go there. Word of caution: they cut each 6″ into two pieces. If you order a foot-long, you get 4 pieces. Tell them if you don’t want it this way.

Open 24 hours and the same food as every other Subway in the country. The neighborhood is getting better and the bullet proof is on its way to be more history than function. The only hours I would not go here is during the time when A. Litteri’s @ 17 – 519 Morse St is open. A. Litteri’s has what I consider the best Subs in the city.

First off, this Subway has the distinction of being open 24 hours. Of course, you can risk which hours you go here. And if the bank-style way of delivering your sandwich through a bulletproof glass revolving door is any indication, you may want to choose those hours wisely.
