This is my second visit to Mason Dixon but my first review. I was hungry for a good breakfast sandwich. I order the #1, Fried egg over easy, bacon, cheese and aioli. Yum! The egg was cooked just right, the bacon was the right thickness and the biscuit is buttery. These are big sandwiches, so you’ll need a hearty appetite or you can share… which is why I had to do. The eyes were bigger than the stomach.

First one biscuit is enough to share between two people. Especially if you’re at the market and want to try a bunch of our items. We got the biscuit with palmetto cheese… the spread was soft, spicy, and all so flavorful. The texture of the biscuit is more dry than I’d like but the cheese gave it the extra moisture it needed. Buttery, flaky, crusty on the outside. Just delicious!

Everyone who knows me knows that I’m a biscuit queen. All my Northern friends know me as having very high standards for biscuits after growing up in the South. Mason Dixie has some of the best biscuits I’ve ever had(almost as good as my grandmother’s), and definitely the best in the DC area. The staff are always super friendly too! The only thing I wish is they would getting added to ubereats for Arlington instead of just in the district, and consider opening a restaurant with sit-down tables.

The chicken was a ten, but the cheddar biscuit was a 3. Based on other pictures I don’t think the biscuit I had at the food truck was the same as the ones they sell out of union market though.(I ate at their food truck.) It was small, cheddar, and kind of standard. The chicken thigh was so amazing though. Large portion, no bone, well breaded and fried. The cucumber salad was very nice too.

The first time I tried their biscuit was at the Whole Foods in Clarendon, apparently they were giving out samples and were now available frozen! But let me tell you how much larger this biscuit was in person… soooo big that I’ll have to just keep coming back here. I wanted to try the chicken sandwich, but they ran out and it was only 1pm and they opened at 11am! So I opted for the plain biscuit with jam. I decided to bring it home because I had eaten some fresh pasta at the market and didn’t want to have a full stomach when trying this deliciousness. So, I rushed home with stomach full of pasta and after ½ an hour, I took a bite out of this large homemade soft biscuit with the fresh jam and I knew we were meant to be forever. Yes, it was love at first bite!

Being raised in North Carolina, land of the ignorant, they didn’t know much down there. However, one thing that state did get right is biscuits. They even have shops called«Biscuitville», so I’m well versed in buttery goodness of a well made biscuit. I’ve been in DC since 2001, and in the time I’ve spent here I’ve never encountered any biscuits like they have in the south. Not even once, that is, until I woke up early on a Saturday morning and went to Union Market. Their website says they open at 8am until they’re sold out, so naturally I went there at 7:55 only to discover they wouldn’t be opening until 9am. However, it was crappy and rainy outside and I decided to just grab a coffee, walk around, and wait. Quite frankly since I’m an early morning freak I’m used to waiting for the rest of the world to catch up to me. However, since you’re reading this, might want to aim 8:45 just to be safe. Hey, people helping people, that’s what it’s about amirite? They actually started serving a bit before 9am which was cool, and I put in my order. As with any breakfast, I wanted to wash down this much hyped bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit with some OJ. Mason Dixie doesn’t actually sell it, but a shop about 20 paces from them does, the staff will even direct you to it. So I ordered, went to the other shop to pick up OJ, then went back and waited 2 – 3 minutes before I was handed a box containing one of the holy grails of breakfast sandwiches. I found a seat, tore the box open like a madman on a mission, and sank my teeth into a sandwich that was worth the hype, worth me getting up early for, worth me being too early for, worth me waiting for… it was worth all the things. For the BEST bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit in DC, look no further than Mason Dixie in Union Market.

Not too long a line on a bustling Saturday afternoon. $ 25 for two sandwiches, which was staggering to find them double the cost of their doppelgangers outside of DC. Walked around for ten minutes before they were ready, but there’s always plenty to browse at Union Market. I should note they were still very filling for moderate-to-light appetites. The biscuits were buttery and fluffy, with a slightly hardened bottom that requires some elbow grease to cut through. The Trainwreck is a great hangover helper; between the generous slathering of gravy and the snug box, it’s definitely a knife-and-forker. Hot chicken sandwich was practically as good for three dollars less. Bacon strips were fully rendered, sausage gravy had a fair amount of meat nuggets, and my over-easy egg was nice and yolky. We’ll be back in moderation to try more Southern specials, with grub stops elsewhere to ease the injury to our wallets.

My office recently moved in around the corner form Union Market and I was thrilled! I have been to other businesses in the market and it has been great. I went to grab breakfast this week and wanted to try the chicken biscuit they had. As we walked up to order we were not only not greeted but were just flat out ignored for probably 3 – 5 min. You pretty much have to go out of your way to ignore someone in a space so small! So we walked away and went to sit at the bar at BUFFALO&BERGEN and had a great breakfast! It’s not a good idea to be so rude to your customers when they have 10 other options 5 steps away.

Saturday, 11:00AM. Quickie: + Food quality ++ Friendly staff + Hygiene — Slow turnaround And then??? We’ll stop by again because we may have caught them on an off-day. ********** Stuffed my face in: 1. Benton’s Bacon, egg, & cheese + Combination gives a strong united flavor profile. — Too dry.

It goes without saying that the biscuits here at Mason Dixie are incredible. If you’re looking for a good biscuit, look no further. But it also gets better than just amazing biscuits. This morning I stopped by Union Market on my way to work to get an iced coffee and a quick bite to eat. I opted to get a croissant from the coffee stand and was on my way out when I walked by Mason Dixie and saw they were featuring a Pastrami Egg & Cheese Biscuit today. Sure, I already had my breakfast in hand, but how could one resist such a temptation. My gluttony was not a disappointment today. Hands down this was one of the best breakfast oriented sandwiches I have ever had(and I’ve eaten a lot of breakfast sandwiches in my lifetime). The biscuit was amazing — just the right balance of flakiness and butteriness. Egg and cheese great as always. The pastrami was overwhelmingly good. Thick slices that crumbled and melted in your mouth. I may go back tomorrow morning, but I know they mix up the menu frequently and I fear there will be no more pastrami. But I’m sure other greatnesses await. Cheers!

So damn good! We stopped at the pop-up location at Union Market this past Saturday. Best breakfast we’ve had in a long time. I had the Hot Mess. The biscuit was so good. I was actually bummed that I didn’t get just a biscuit with the homemade peach jam. The egg was cooked just right, and the sausage gravy was the best sausage gravy I’ve had outside of my Mom’s kitchen! The homemade five alive juice was a great boost in the morning!

Wow. Just wow… in all the good ways. Mason Dixie Biscuit Company is my new favorite pop up at Union Market and I will be back because I know I’ll be craving it soon. My wife and I ordered the cheddar biscuit with a friend egg, heirloom tomato and pimento cheese on it. WOW. Best brunch I’ve had in a long time. The biscuit if $ 7, but it’s larger than a normal sized biscuit and I felt full after eating just that and an iced latte from nearby Peregrine. It’s also very important to note that this past year, Mason Dixie Biscuit Company’s biscuits won the Critics Choice Award as the best biscuit in the nation.

These biscuits are a gift from the DC food gods. The biscuit is nice, big, soft, and buttery, but not too soft and buttery, so it stays together when you eat it like a sandwich. I have gotten the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit the times I have come here, although I have been dying to try the fried chicken biscuit. The sauces they have are delicious, and the combinatiion that makes up the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich goes together well. I’m a HUGE biscuit fan and these are great. It’s also really nice that they are located in Union Market, which makes it perfect for a weekend morning breakfast with some people watching. I wish they were available every day of the week! Note that they sell until they run out so make sure you try to get there relatively early in the day, especially on the weekends. Also, it is in Union Market so expect counter service with seating throughout the market.

Holy cow these biscuits are absolutely amazing. I ordered the egg biscuit with sausage gravy and it was absolutely the best biscuit and gravy biscuit ever! When I first looked at the biscuit, I was skeptical because I’ve been fooled before only to receive hard and dense rocks but this was not it at all. It was moist and flaky like you should expect and the gravy was perfect as well. Enough pepper to give that little bite and flavored perfectly to my tastebuds. Must come back for more!

Craved some biscuits at 9:30am on a Sunday. Googled, «Washington DC Biscuit» and this was one of the first things that popped up that was open. Awesome spot. No frills. Delicious. I got the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich and it was fantastic. The other reviewers are just salty because they didn’t read that«limited quantity» part on their website. If you get there within a reasonable breakfast time you don’t have to worry!

Ever since I read about this place, in the Express as one of the places to get mouthwatering biscuits, I have been waiting for an excuse to come here for breakfast. The bacon, egg, and cheese was AmazeBalls. There were at least 3 – 4 strips of bacon, the egg was cooked to perfection, and the biscuit itself was buttery and flakey. One of the best $ 7 breakfast I have had in DC. I don’t know about the other reviewers but my biscuit was huge and well worth the $ 7.

Much ado about nothing. The biscuit is generous in size, but it’s quite dry. I ordered one with herb butter and it really didn’t pass muster. Perhaps my expectations were over-inflated, but I was expecting a warm, fluffy biscuit slathered with flavorful butter. You know, like when your bread is served nice and warm and the herb butter melts and it all tastes like a warm hug?(I’m looking at you, Coastal Flats’ Ozzie Rolls.) Instead I got a biscuit(slightly warmed, not fluffy) with two dipping sauce containers of herb better. I wish I had known that because I neglected to grab utensils which made for spreading the butter quite difficult when I got to the National Mall to eat it.(Note: don’t forget utensils!!) Turning back to the food, the butter was just ok too; the herbs didn’t really match the biscuit. They were on the sweeter(lighter?) side,(maybe tarragon and lemon zest?) and I was expecting something heartier, like chives or Rosemary. Save yourself the $ 5 price tag and go to a bakery, grocery store or even a fast food joint and get their biscuits instead.

I will give them credit… the biscuit is great. With Biscuit in your company name, it should be good. However, my boyfriend got me a Bacon and Cheese biscuit. There were two half pieces of bacon(so really one slice) and a half of piece of cheese. The ratio to meat/cheese to biscuit was less than half. So, for that… they get 3 stars. They also have a yummy garlic aioli. I would be willing to come back for a biscuit only which I hope is a lot cheaper…

I’m a bit on the fence about Mason Dixie Biscuit Co’s breakfast offerings. While a 2.5 star average doesn’t seem to do the biscuits justice, I can’t muster up much more than that myself given the price and what exactly ended up in our boxes this past weekend. We had a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit sandwich($ 7) and a «hot mess»(biscuit and stew; $ 8). The breakfast sandwich was good but to justify the cost it would have needed at least twice as much bacon. The last third of the sandwich had none. The egg is cooked over easy and the girl at the counter did mention that when we ordered. The biscuit is definitely bigger than your average fast food biscuit and though the texture is good the flavor is pretty generic. I like Barrel’s herbed biscuits much better. The hot mess really was just that. I thought it would be a biscuit covered in a heap of stew(a la biscuits and gravy style) but instead there was some egg and some bacon in there as well and just the tiniest amount of stew on the bottom that it actually looked like bacon grease in the container at first. You still had to eat it with a fork and knife… but the strips of bacon made it more difficult to use plastic cutlery to do so. The dish was more than underwhelming and I would have much rather preferred the biscuit sliced in half and topped with a mound of creamy gravy. Half a dozen frozen biscuits are available for $ 8 to take home. I’d come back if I happened to be at Union Market and saw they had biscuits and gravy on the daily rotating menu but that’s probably it.

I really want to super like Mason Dixie Biscuit Co. I love their concept, and it’s unique to the area! Where else around NoMa/Capitol Hill can you find delicious biscuits?(You can’t, just here.) I’ve had the Croque Madame and the Benton’s. Both are solid breakfast biscuit sandwiches — great flavors, and fluffy/butter biscuit. Nom! I really wish it didn’t come in a box that’s hard to eat from. Egg is too runny, and biscuit too flaky for a sandwich on the go. I want a plate, damnit! I also don’t like how more than half of the advertised menu is never available at Union Market. Always a limited, rotating menu, and the inconsistency drives me up the wall. Don’t get me wrong. It’s tasty. A tad overpriced(2 breakfast sandwiches for $ 15), but tasty. You should definitely try them at least once, but 3 stars overall.
