I decided to try The BBQ Joint, but I was skeptical. I’m a native Texan, I was raised on barbecue and collard greens. THEFOODWASOUTSTANDING. The brisket was tender and quite delicious. The collard greens were amazing. I love collard greens, and very few people can pull them off. I highly recommend this place. Next time I visit the D.C. area, I will be coming back for some barbecue.

OMG! Was walking by after picking up meats from Harvey’s and saw the girl carving some HOTSUPERJUICY beef brisket. *Drroooooooll* Ordered some on a whim because it looked THATGOOD. This is how brisket should be. Juice-dripping-down-your-chin good! The meat was so tender and sweet. They also have about 6 different sauces. I squeezed a lil ‘swicy’ sauce as per recommendation of the cashier. Goes for $ 22/lb. She sliced up $ 9 worth of which got me about 4 or 5 medium sized slices. This is a must try!!!

Pretty tasty BBQ, although a bit pricey and not mind blowing. I tried a brisket special(sandwich, side + cornbread, and with the soft drink, tax and tip, it cost me just over $ 21). Brisket was tender but excessively fatty — would have been a great deal for ½ the price.

Hands down the best brisket in DC– always tender and juicy. It’s a bit expensive, especially since BBQ is usually not pricey, but did I mention it melts in your mouth? Don’t bother with the bread– just get the meat. Nom nom

Ordered some BBQ Joint while at Union Markey this past weekend. They often have specials if you so fancy. We were torn between the ribs, Pulled pork sandwich and sides for $ 13 and Brisket sandwich, corn bread muffin and choice of side for $ 16. We chose the beef brisket. Meet was tender and the sweet and spicy bbq sauce mixed with the hot bbq gave a nice added flavorful kick. The corn muffin was probably the best I’ve tasted– very dense and moist like corn bread should be. Slaw tasty and light for a mayo based slaw. Baked beans more like a bean chili and flavorful. Would love to try their ribs, collard greens and yams next time! Friendly service, catering and swag available. Try it out!

Okay, I was THRILLED about this place. I always have high hopes for Union Market and BBQ Joint did not disappoint. I got the beef brisket sandwich and the baked beans. For some reason I expected a side of those canned beans, but that was NOT the case. The beans are incredible just on their own! The brisket was just truly incredible. It was perfect with the«swicy» sauce! Honestly, my only complaint is about he bread they served it on– the bread definitely took away from the brisket. I know you take that chance when you order a brisket sandwich, but I wish there was an option that complemented the brisket a bit better… But seriously, come here, it’s a bit hard to find in the back of UM, but definitely worth it!

They have a great beef brisket with a wide array of sauces, ranging from spicy to mild. They have their own smoker right outside of Union Market that carries the smell of wonderful BBQ all the way across the parking lot.

The food was great! The overall experience, though, was strange and disappointing. I ordered a half pound of beef brisket on a sandwich. I pointed to it on the chalkboard. The attendant asked me to confirm that I wanted a half pound — I confirmed. Then I got to the register and it turned out I had been given about two-thirds of a pound… And charged extra for it. They inadvertently rang me up for pork(slightly cheaper than brisket) and kept pointing that out when I questioned why the total was higher than what was on the board. When I said I had ordered a half pound, the attendant said, «We’d be happy to ring you up for brisket,» as if I should be grateful. The appropriate response is to give me what I ask for and charge me the listed price.

A solid BBQ choice for DC. I was not a huge fan of their cornbread, but the brisket was pretty top notch. I look forward to coming back here again and sampling more of their fare.

4.5 stars, and highly recommended. The BBQ brisket here is just out of site good, with a lot of sugary char. It’s a moist, crumbly, and dreamy serving of meat, with terrific accompanying sauces. Ribs are good, and worth ordering, pulled pork and sides are just OK. The best side is probably the greens, which are cooked perfectly, if not quite jibing with the random bits of watery meat mixed inside. Prices are a little above value, like all things at Union Market, but quality is excellent and I’ve never been disappointed with repeat visits. If you’re looking for a brisket sandwich shop with a parking lot and several bars in-complex, all huge premiums in DC, this is your place.

Delicious Deep South BBQ, but a little over priced. The brisket was authentic smoked BBQ with a very rich flavor profile. The fat content was perfect and the meat was very juicy with the perfect smoke. Our sides were collard greens, cole slaw, and corn bread muffins. All three were average taste and not as flavorful as the brisket. The added bonus is their BBQ sauce which is very unique and complimented the brisket in a way that was not overpowering. We tasted separately the spicy and sweet and spicy sauce, then combined them to put on both the brisket and collards. Perfect! At $ 11.95 this would have been a 4 star.

Hallelujah! I have been reunited with my long lost parts. I have longed for something unknown for forty years, but now I know. That is the only explanation for the joy that I am feeling from this innocent brisket. I thought that I had married my better half, but I was wrong. I have tasted my better self, and it was brisket.

You would even thinking about this BBQ while you were dreaming! The beef brisket are so delicious and it’s hard to find an other place to compare in the area. Have to taste it! Vegans! Quit!

As a southerner that has moved to the big city, I have been on the lookout for good BBQ since I arrived 5 years ago. Nothing has come close until The BBQ Joint. They have great pulled pork and brisket that rival what you get down south. They also have a number of different sauces– my favorites are the Tarheel(a vinegar based, carolina-style sauce) and the spicy sauce. I have tried a few of their sides as well and the collards are on point. The cornbread is also moist with just the right amount of sweetness. My only complaint(and the reason for the lower rating) is the high prices– They offer a «special» at $ 16 for a brisket sandwich, side, and small cornbread muffin(no drink). You have to admit this is a bit ridiculous even for Union Market.

Two amazing BBQ opinions within walking distance? How did this happen! I must confess, I have loyalties to Bloomingdale’s DCity Smokehouse. Excellent pricing, neighborhood vibe, and food that makes you want to reconsider what you’ve been doing with your life. Recently moving to NoMa I factored in BBQ in my «Pros» and«Cons» list. Though I saw this place was opening, I thought it may be a good«default» if I was feeling lazy and didn’t put any expectations to it. Boy, I should have. The BBQ Joint is a little more pricey compared to DCity, but you get the same quality. Beef Brisket($ 11): A They were out of buns this day, so they just weighed the meat and handed it over. I filled up 3(yes 3!!!) dinner rolls with this stuff. Truly flavored, tender, and filling. Slaw($ 1): A+ For a dollar, you can’t go wrong. This is tangy and creamy at the same time. A must buy! Beans($ 1-$ 2ish): A+ This was a surprisingly highlight of the whole meal. Ridiculously flavor filled, chunks of meat, and a full cup of the good stuff. YUM! Yes, I do not regret moving farther from DCity after the BBQ Joint has successfully taken over Union Market.

YUMYUMYUM! last weekend was my first trip to Union Market and while wandering around I was immediately drawn to The BBQ Joint from the smell. My mouth was watering before I had any idea what was causing it to water. I rounded the corner and saw what they were offering and knew I had to indulge. They were offering a Special– one pulled pork sandwich, beans, a corn muffin and cole slaw for $ 12. Each of those items separately(not purchased as a special) added up to $ 15-$ 16 so it was worth the discount. The sandwich was handed over and I had the option of adding sauce from a selection of about 6 bottles. I chose the sweet sauce and was very happy with my choice. the beans were not what I was expecting– they were better! More like chili with a variety of beans & tomatoes. Only downside was that they didn’t offer seating, but not an issue really. We found a seat outside and enjoyed the weather!

I was hopeful that a BBQ place that transports its food, instead of making it on site, might prosper. Granted, I have not been to the main restaurant, but the mini version at Union Market has left me less than motivated to make the trip. Here are the reasons why: Service — Interminably slow, two polite young women helmed the counter but didn’t have much experience in preparing meals in a decent amount of time(with food that is already prepared, why should it take 10 minutes to put together?). Food — I had the«wet» ribs and a corn muffin. The ribs were a modest size, but very fatty while the sauce failed to augment any discernible flavor beyond your basic stock BBQ. The corn muffin size was a bit hit or miss — if you get there early you can have one with a sizable top, get there late and no muffin top for you! Speaking of which, what makes one appealing is the crunchiness of the top — this is somehow skipped in the baking process. Outside of being very moist(underbaked?), the honey plays an overbearing role in what could have been a fun combo of ingredients in a corn muffin. Price — The prices are decent for the meal you are getting. However, please note that meat is sold by the pound even though the price does not list it as such. Perhaps BBQ Joint just needs more time to work out the kinks. At any rate, I’m still hopeful…

Orders a task of ribs, half dry and half wet. Their version of dry is just without sauce slathered on it(my fault I thought dry meant dry rub). The ribs were tender with just enough bite but almost fall off the bone. Without the slather, the ribs aren’t as tasty, so I definitely recommend getting the wet version. The servers were sweet and helpful when making my order.

Just wrote a review on the union market page because I missed this page — soooo to repeat: Amazing brisket that tops Hill Country and Smoke and Barrel(tho I am still a fan of both). Collard greens were the best I have had in ages. The corn muffin was a also moist and tasty.

The ribs are huge! And all meat. And fall-off-the-bone tender. Collards are cooked with pork and I didn’t need to add anything to them. The cornbread muffin was flavorful and sweet. Staff is very friendly and I’m looking forward to trying more on the menu, like the pulled pork.
