I walked about a mile to eat here! I really wanted some Caribbean food but also wanted to explore Washington a bit. I’m from California but when I went out to Washington I walked out to this little hole in the wall and ordered a plate of jerk chicken and also an order of curry chicken roti! It was amazing! The workers were super polite helped me order and chit chatted with me. The jerk chicken was definitely spicy! I’m Nigerian and I eat a lot of spicy food but that jerk chicken definitely had a kick! The rice was a little under cooked which made me a little sad but the chicken was amazing I attacked the chicken roti and thoroughly enjoyed it! In my opinion the bones weren’t that big of a deal I feel as if it gives more flavor but just be careful there were small shards of broken bone in the chicken but overall I really enjoyed my meal of I lived out there that place would definitely be a regular spot for me!

Everyone knows how I feel about Curry Goat … so after all the reviews I was super disappoint by lack luster customer service and even more lack luster food. There was so much juice in my cabbage it watered down my goat and soaked through the paper container my food came in. The store then refused to give me container unless I bought it… LOL!!! So now my food is in the bag because the container came apart…

After visiting another place that ran out of food in the middle of the day, I found myself here. The food is good, i have the Curry Goat and it will a good serving size, I would say they could stand to jazz up their cabbage, but either way it did the trick.

Pretty decent. Went last night on a Sunday when they were closing. Was only able to get the Jerk Chicken with rice/beans and Okra. Other than the service being a tad bit slow the food was good.

I love the flavors of the food! I also like the speed of getting the food. I have eaten here twice and both times I’ve had the small jerk chicken meal with cabbage and rice. When asked for jerk sauce on top, I sat yes! It gets the spices on the rice! Yum! It’s very spicy and your mouth will burn but that’s my favorite part. My only concern is that the chicken didn’t look all the way done. I originally thought it was the spices but on a chicken wing I pulled apart it looked bloody. Other than that I recommend for good food and reasonable prices.

The food itself is delicious. I have the chance to try the curry chicken and jerk chicken. The restaurant reflect the reality/history of the neighborhood. It is located at 6 and H NEDC. You will place your order through a glass window. Keep in mind until the last 5 years that area of time was considered very dangerous. It is now becoming gentrified, this restaurant is a corner favorite. The person taking my phone order was very helpful and even found sweet, teriyaki style chicken for my kid. I enjoyed the food, I felt taken care of and my business was appreciated. In a nutshell I will definitely return.

Although this place is out of my way, I’ve made the effort to go here many times for their jerk chicken. Their authentic taste and sizable portions do not disappoint and have kept me coming back. They’re also usually pretty quick with getting you your food when you come in, and while there’s space inside the restaurant to eat, it’s really more of a carry-out place. My only complaint about Taste of Jamaica is that it does keep irregular hours, but I’m willing to overlook that because of their food.

Stopped in on our trip to DC. We had the jerk & curry chicken with fried plantains. Food came out quick, the proportion was plentiful and the food was memorable. The cabbage side dish was tasty also, thanks for a taste of Jamaica!

REALLYBAD!!! We drove to H st based on the reveiws. Maybe it was a off night — I doubt it. The oxtails were mostly bone & cartlidge. The lil meat that was on the bone was hard and simply not cooked well. The seasoning was very bland. We got a large and had only enough rice for two. Only a serving spoonful of bland cabbage. No carrots, potatoes or peppers. Just plain boiled white cabbage. Not even a pc or two of plantain. Very disapointed.

We went a little earlier in the day(4:30ish) and the food was quick and fantastic. We both had the combo platters. One with jerk chicken and fricassee chicken, the other with jerk chicken and curried goat. Both came with rice and beans and cabbage. Everything was delicious, perfectly spicy, and tender.

Its Sunday and its 125pm and the restaurant is closed. Maybe I should have called but this bums me out seeing as I drove 30 minutes away to eat here. I assumed the hours posted here were correct. Now I want ox tails and I ain’t got none

My husband and I had a great eating experience at «Taste of Jamaica». It was our first time at this establishment. We stopped in from Arlington, VA without any expectations. We were pleasantly surprised. The first thing I noticed was how quiet everyone was. I took that to mean the food was good, and they were enjoying it. I was right! We ordered the chicken curry and jerk chicken combo. This came with rice and cabbage. The curry was very tender and the jerk had just the right amount of heat. The prices were very reasonable. We will definitely come back(and bring a friend or two). No need to keep this place a secret. Also, the owner was very pleasant and thankful.

So I’ve only had a curry chicken roti once before and all I can remember is that was a wrap with boneless curry chicken and potatoes in it. Mistakingly this is not what I received when placing my order. After the gentleman in the kitchen area provided the cashier with the roti wrap I just knew she was going to finish it by placing the boneless chicken and potatoes inside. However, she nicely took the container and started putting the bone-in curry chicken right on top of the roti and closed the lid… whattt that’s it lol. I was simply shocked and to have to $ 11 for chicken and a piece of bread was even more shocking. I mean it was a lot of chicken but every other bit I’m picking out small bones from my mouth… so in the way. All in all the curry chicken was good but the presentation wasn’t what I expected. If I knew this ahead of time I would’ve just ordered the curry chicken meal with the rice and a side.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. Ordered thru grub hub and over 2 hours later, they never showed and did not answer the phone. Grub Hub called and they did not answer the phone for them. They even confirmed my order, but a no show. Totally unprofessional!

Horrible service! Today, I placed an order for my office online via GrubHub for delivery. The order was automatically switched to pick-up, a huge inconvenience because I can’t leave my office during the middle of the day. I called to verify whether the order was being delivered as I originally requested, and they stated it was for pick up but never stated why it couldn’t be delivered. The restaurant then called me back to tell me they didn’t have ox tails ready. I could wait another 45 minutes or substitute for something else. I chose to substitute for curry chicken, not a huge deal. I sent a co-worker to pick up the food, and the restaurant calls AGAIN stating they don’t have beef patties ready and the oven is currently occupied. The wait for beef patties: another 45 minutes! So trying to remain calm, I substitute those for chicken patties. A minute later, my coworker calls me to say they don’t have the jerk chicken sandwich we ordered; the wait: You guessed it, 45 minutes! We told them to just forget the sandwich. I don’t understand how a place that opens at 11am and allows online ordering with an option for delivery cannot fulfill an order placed at 12:54pm and is supposed to be ready at 1:15pm. It’s now after 2pm. My coworker just walked in with the food. Turns out the lady thought he was placing a brand new order. Our food was sitting to the side waiting for pick up the entire time! I don’t know who the confused woman I spoke with is, but someone should guide her a little bit better or she should not be allowed to handle online/phone orders. At this point, I’m confused, but I can say my curry chicken tastes good. Mehhh.

My biggest issue with Taste of Jamaica is they keep irregular hours. I guess they are officially closed on Saturdays which is strange. I had the jerk chicken which was very spicy. I go for a higher than average spice level, but the jerk seasoning just clung to my lips. I’d like to go back to try the oxtail stew.

Taste of Jamaica is the best Jamaican restaurant outside of Jamaica. The food is flavored perfectly. The staff is friendly. The food is priced well for the portions! There is nothing that I can say is wrong with ToJ.

Good service — owner was there the day I went. The prices are very reasonable — especially for the portion size(easily get 2.5 meals out of this). I did take out. They do have ample amount of seating but it’s def more of a carry out spot. Lots of drink options including champagne kola. Had the curry beef with rice and beans. I was sad that there was no mac and cheese left but then he was kind enough to give me a large sample in my order of the goat curry which was also deelish. Also had the coco bread which he kindly warmed up for perfection. I will have to try their beef patty next time. I’m kinda picky about my patties though having grew up in NYC with awesomeness like Golden Krust Bakery BUT I think this place won’t disappoint.

We used Taste of Jamaica for a catering order(36 guests) for an event being held in NoMA. We found them through a local, who visited them and asked about the menu. The order was placed very early in the week, because it was a large order. We also went and had lunch there the day before the event, and tried the goat, jerk chicken, and patties. Delicious! Our menu for the event was jerk chicken, chicken fricassee, brown stewed tofu(for the vegetarians), rice and peas, and cabbage. Howard delivered the order. Our guests really liked the food. One guest said it was the best jerk chicken he’d ever had. We’re looking forward to ordering from them again.
