Love the pupsas and carne asada tacos! I’ve stopped by and found them closed at times, but otherwise it’s a great place for a fresh carry out

I really like this place. The tomatillo/avocado salsa is fantastic. Burritos are a good size. Call ahead for carry out.

My boyfriend and I live right down the street from this restaurant so against our better judgment, we decided to give it a shot. We’ve tried practically every taco spot in the city so it only made sense for us to try something in the neighborhood. After walking in and taking a seat at the bar we got the attention of one of the people working there and attempted to place our order. Needless to say, that didn’t go over too well since neither she, nor anyone else that worked there, spoke english. We struggled for a good five minutes trying to explain what we wanted and finally, between pointing at things on the menu and at other people’s plates, we were able to tell them what we wanted. 20 minutes later we had our food and decided to take it home to eat. Once we opened our bag we realize that our order wasn’t right. We tried calling the restaurant to explain that there had been a mixup but again, no one spoke English, so that didn’t really go over too well. Usually when something like this happens we would go back to the restaurant to get what we actually ordered. In this case however, we decided that it wasn’t worth it. The tacos were unremarkable. The meat was bland and the salsas weren’t anything to write home about. We won’t be back.

Authentic Mexican cuisine with a Certificate from the Minister of Agriculture and Food of Mexico! We all love it — old school cats, hipsters, youngins and foreigners! Goat taco is sick, roast pork bites outta this world! Huge Central American beer selection! Can’t wait for them to expand and open up the patio for the summer!

This is the second location of the popular resturant in north Columbia heights. This one is a little more like a diner that serves Mexican food. They have counter seating, which I like and a few tables. No outdoor seating yet. The A/C has never been on when I was there so it gets a little hot. They serve beer and margaritas and Mexican coke. I do recommend this place but wish they would get outdoor seating. They have lots of room for it. Service is nice and food traditional and good.

The service and staff are friendly, but the tacos weren’t good at all. I swore when I moved here from Chicago that I wouldn’t eat Mexican food in DC, I’m also a born and raised Texan… so I should have known better. The tortillas are much too thick and the meat was obviously cheap quality. Pretty disappointed because I had high hopes from the Unilocal reviews.

So kid-friendly! I stopped here hoping for good tacos and wasn’t disappointed. The woman who took my order spoke limited English but after taking my carry out order immediately brought out two small plates of beans and rice for my small kids to eat while we waited. The food was great. I especially loved the fried tacos because, hello, fried tacos. The chicken was great, moist and just a bit spicy. The green salsa was also delicious.

I bought the LS deal and of course, didn’t go to redeem it until the last day. My friend and I got to the original Taqueria DF(14th St.) and they told us there was no food left! We thought it was a joke but, no it wasn’t. He told us to go to the other one so off we went. The inside looks like a diner crossed with a Mexican place and it’s not exactly the nicest place. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and wow… amazing. I’m still thinking about them(and trying to go back to order them again). I also order a queso pupusa which was also great. This is definitely some great Mexican food.

I had a LivingSocial deal and being that I used to(and dearly miss) living in California, I was jazzed about reintroducing some tacos and burritos in my life. My boyfriend and I came in on a Saturday night around 8:30 and it was quiet. There was one group of people at a table, and a girl came in for take-out while I was there. The service was so friendly and quick. We ordered a burrito, pupusas and tacos. The pupusas were good, but so good that I snagged the last cheese one. My boyfriend got a variety of meat tacos which were good, and I liked the burrito I ordered. It should be known that I don’t like beans or sour cream on my burrito, and I ordered this without even a raised eyebrow. It was no problem at all for the staff. I also love an unhealthy amount of onion, which this burrito was a little light on, but like I said, I do have a problem. There was a good amount of chicken, the rice was nice, fluffy and flavorful, and the burrito wrap itself… amazing. For take out, the food held-up really well and was still warm and delicious(not cold and soggy) by the time we got it home. The price for a horchata, a burrito, three pupusas($ 1.80 each), and four tacos with sides(the #1 combo) was $ 27.XX. Pros: –Good food –Friendly, quick and such nice service! They gave me chips and salsa to enjoy while I waited for my food. –I was stuffed after Cons: –Menu doesn’t reflect some current prices –Lots of food was out(pinto beans, pupusas, desserts) so come with an open palette. It was late on a Saturday though. –Horchata not the best. Not the worst, but a little watery and chalkish for my taste. That being said, I still drank it all though. This place is close-by and the service was so nice. I’d definitely go back, especially to try their breakfast menu.

The tacos are really scrumptious. The Barbacoa and al pastor are the ones to go with. The Asada was too chewy and stiff. Chicken was generic and the carnitas was also ok. Air conditioning doesn’t work. Went twice, the first time they were in the middle of a shift change. The lady that took my order literally waited until I waved at her to take my order. The next lady that cane into cover her sat on the table and started talking on the phone while I was trying to pay and leave. She was dressed in sweat pants on a 90 degree day. Went back a week later and there was a different lady who actually hustled up and down the store working her tail off. She deserved the large tip we gave her. I would go back way more often if she was the server all the time.

Food: decent My gripe is with the owner, this guy is the worse I’ve seen yet. I have been coming here for the past three years, and in that time he has not made an effort to make the basic necessary improvements. Bathrooms are moldy. The A/C doesn’t work, so you’re eating and sweating in the summer. And no one enjoys working in the heat so, there stems the poor svc. During winter, forget it, you’re freezing your ass off. Smh. And he drives around in his BMW while his workers are suffering keeping his biz afloat.

The food can be pretty good, but the staff doesn’t seem to be too worried about what you order. You get a bag of «Stuff» The first time I went there, I thought it was a simple mistake so I didn’t say anything. After ordering some takeout a second time, I had to go back to correct the order because nothing was right. The woman that took my order pulled out the slip she wrote it on and told me I was wrong and everything she wrote down is correct. Maybe a language difference, but I’m not going back to argue with the wait staff. Mama Chuy’s is a little further away, but significantly better. Go there.

I ordered that combo plate, two tacos al pastor and two carne asada, the carne asada was salty and over cooked and tough. The al pastor in no way resembled al pastor was deeply disappointed in this place, the horchata was fine but nothing to write home about.

Had a beef, chix, and pork crispy taco. They were all great. Had green salsa and chips which was a nice milder change. Everything was great. Boo to no air conditioning and the inside appearance, but worth it for the great food.

Found this place after finishing an inspection and got to say it was worth the stop! Food is great with reasonable prices. This is your typical hole in the wall Mexican spot that reminds me of TJ and So Cal!

The food is fine. But both the website and Unilocal say that this place delivers. They don’t. To make matters worse, the person who works the phones doesn’t tell you that when you call and say you’d like to order for delivery.

Maybe it was the two years living next to one of the areas best and most authentic Mexican taco trucks ever… but this place didn’t really do it for me. I’m not a fan of the green avocado/tomatillo-based salsa. To me it was bland, and nearly flavorless. It could be that I’m not a fan of that particular style but I do like the typical tomatillo salsa, this wasn’t bright, fresh or tangy so no thanks. Opted for the Carne Asada and Pollo. This was Sunday evening and the place was basically empty. Our corn tortillas hit the grill but everything else came out of storage. The meat was all fairly dry and there was minimal cilantro and onion. I thought the avocado slices were a nice touch but both salsas they included were ok. The place looked a bit run down and wasn’t particularly clean. Neither of the girls working used gloves to handle any of our food, so I crossed my fingers and hoped that the heat would kill whatever they might be touching. I’m not particularly squeamish so for above average food I can overlook dingy surroundings. Luckily I suffered no ill effects, just bummed that a spot so close to my new place isn’t worth a revisit.

I’m a big fan of Taqueria D.F. 2. Stick with the simple fare and you will do well here. They offer homemade tortillas and pupusas that will fill you up and make you smile. Go out of your way and you will be well rewarded. Stopped in for an impromptu Sunday lunch the other day. No wait, no fuss, pleasant service, and delicious tacos. The lengua(tongue) is still my favorite. Let’s be honest though: the avocado salsa verde is the star here, as it is at the 14th Street Location. I could bathe in that stuff. Look, it ain’t gourmet eats, and it may feel a bit run down, but you don’t come here for the cool vibe: you come for the tacos.

Ok I am going to be one of THOSE people, a Californian reviewing Mexican food in DC(of which there is precious little). TDF is GREAT. Very authentic. And like most taco stands, they have their greats, and the not so greats. First time I ordered the pork ribs in green chile sauce, which another reviewer described as ‘gristly’ — which, yes, if you want to be picky, but if you are an eat everything off the bone kind of person they were plenty tasty, just be prepared, the sauce is spicy. Very good chile verde, though, with no acidic undertones from over-cooking the tomatillos. The second time we also got some quesadillas. The asada was delicious(as was asada tostada), the chicken was fine, but the carnitas were dry and salty. I swear, any taco place you go to either does asada well or carnitas, never both. My 12 year old is a fan of the chorizo tostada. I would definitely get some tostadas, just be aware that they are loaded and super messy. So far everyone in the family is happy!
