Wife bought a Groupon before our visit, as it was close to where we were staying. It was further than we thought. It was a hot day. When we walked in, we were hit by a blast of heat. I was sure there had to be magma bubbling up through the floor. We went back outside to order. We all had tacos in some form or fashion. Wife and kids had carne asada or carnitas. I had tongue. All we delicious. The salsa prior to the meal was cold and refreshing. The Guacamole was unremarkable. The service was very friendly and was attentive. The ladies probably deserve another star for having to stay in that hot box all day.

Went to this place, before my flight out of D.C. Seemed like another authentic Mexican restaurant. Ordered a vegetarian burrito and a Mexican chicken sandwich. The burrito was pretty good, tasted authentic. It had a «unique» taste. That is all I am going to say. The Mexican chicken sandwich actually tasted like a Carl’s Jr. chicken sandwich(if you have every tasted their spicy chicken sandwich). The texture and flat chicken patty was similar. They also had a nice rice shake. It seemed to be the flavor combination of a white jelly bean and peppermint. Good portion sizes!

I’m glad I finally found a place that is affordable and has good food. I was in the neighborhood and I was craving Mexican food, and I specifically wanted a burrito, so I searched for places and located Taqueria Distrito Federal. Chips & salsa are complementary, but if you can’t handle the heat from the salsa, be prepared! I don’t mind it at all, so the heat was an added bonus. Burrito was delicious! Carne asada is the way to go! Make sure you come hungry though. For your beverage — get the horchata. They make it really well here

Go here. This is one of my favorite places in the world. So delicious and excellent value. Everything is great: tasty tacos, scrumptious salsas, and beany beans. I’ll always remember this as the magical place where I first realized that goat tastes like the beautiful love child of beef and lamb.

I wanted to like this place, but I didn’t. When I ordered over the phone, I was told my order would be ready in 10 mins. After I arrived, I had to wait another 15 minutes. The steak fajita was disgusting. I question if that was actually beef. The shrimp fajita was much better, but still not amazing. Overall, it was mediocre. I won’t be back.

I’ve totally given up on finding awesome tacos in my city. However, the flea market on route one has amazing tacos. Nothing here but bland generic tacos, watered down sauces and store bought tortillas. And the horchata sucked. Great service. Awful food.

I love tacos. I’ve lived in Mexico and I am from the West. These are the most authentic tacos I’ve had in DC. They are not as good as in Mexico bu they pretty darn close. My favorites are the barbacoa, al pastor and pork tacos. I also love their horchata.

Used to live in the neighborhood and would go here maybe once a week. Love the tacos and the owner is super nice. You have to check this out for some legitimate Mexican food in DC, which is tough to find.

Delicious, fresh food. The vegetarian tacos are very nice. Very casual joint. Works well for take out too.

Liked it. Not loved it. Had a goat taco and some guac. No tamales today. Apparently those are served on «special» days. Guacamole had what appears to be chunks of mozzarella in it??? Hmmmm… Mini tacos served here like Taqueria Habenero… 2.5 blocks away, which is much better in my opinion.

Eh — this place isn’t bad but it’s not my favorite. My boyfriend really enjoys it — but it’s a tad bit to salty for my taste. The tamarind juice is pretty good though, as is their chips and salsa. It has pretty chill outdoor seating and it doesn’t get that packed. The service was good and the food came out fast.

This place is the best Mexican food I’ve had outside of Oyamel in DC. Tasty, cheap, authentic and all around awesome. When I don’t want to cook after work, this will be my go to place. Cheers.

Oh the wonderful words that can be used to describe this place! This is the most authentic Mexican food around. They have the best tacos in the city(I prefer the steak). I also love their horchata! No alcohol sold, but rumor has it you can byob… I’ve never tried.

I missed this place. I used to come here a couple years ago, then moved away for a time. Now I’m back in DC and couldn’t wait to get some more authentic Mexican food from my favorite local establishment. The Alambre Mexicano is hard to beat. Chicken, beef, peppers, onions, and a ton of melted cheese — think fajita meets quesadilla. Served with warm corn tortillas, rice, and beans, it just… ugh, words escape me. I might have to go again next week. Just to make the review complete, I ordered by phone and the woman said it would be about 20 minutes, and it was more like 25 – 30.

This is renowned as one of the best taco places in the District, and absolutely had an authentic taste and feel. Prices are cheap and options are plentiful but only if you eat meat. No veggie options on the menu, but they’ll do basically anything with beans and cheese. Don’t get me wrong, that’s good, but I’d love some more choices. Had sopes, which are a hard find here and they were good once you got into all the salsas. Service was a bit lax, and appeared to be young family or friends of the business — not professional servers. Then again it’s a small cantina type place. Horchata was delicious, but no liquor license. All in all, good, but not great. Worth a stop if you’re in the area for sure.

Delectable authentic Mexican food in a casual setting. Great options for vegetarians and carnivores — my meat-eating friends especially enjoy the taco combos because they allow them to taste a variety of options, and I enjoy the vegetarian burritos and huevos rancheros. The portions are very generous and the food is fresh and flavorful. If you like heat, try the red salsa available on every table. The service is friendly and efficient, but one should remember that while this is a casual eatery, it is not fast food.

Came here because Thip Khao was closed. Just ok. Service is average, and the food came out a little cold. Nothing to write home about. With that said, I was pleasantly surprised to find a place that actually makes true Mexican food. This place at least gets the taste right. Good place for a quick, casual bite.

I think this would be considered a very«authentic» Mexican place based on the atmosphere, etc. The food was fine and I’d go back, but nothing special. I had the burrito and torta. I’d recommend the torta of the two.

This place lives up to its name as a hole in the wall taco shop. Located in Columbia Heights, it has a very modest interior with a counter to order for take out and a couple of tables. I ordered the tacos el pastor, which were pretty tasty and decently priced! I also ordered the horchata which was FAR too sweet. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a casual and authentic Mexican food experience.

Everything was cool until a roach crawled down the wall onto our table when we were getting ready to leave. I’ve worked in enough restaurants and bars to know that most places have pests somewhere in the building… but you know it’s bad when they come out to the dining room when there’s company! The service was good, the food was okay, but I can’t give more than stars to a place with ill-behaved vermin. I pity the fool who uses the salsa from the table ramekins. My husband did… but after living in developing countries for 5 years, his stomach is a lot steelier than mine lol

After checking out their reviews, and realizing that Taqueria DF is basically a neighborhood establishment, I decided to try it out. While their tacos lack a lot of the flavors that other local taco joints provide(they don’t use nearly as much cilantro, no salsa on tacos), they do offer shrimp and fish tacos. Both of which were pretty good. Same with their chicken tacos. Their chips are nothing special — more like store-bought tortilla chips, and their salsas… very oily. Very very very oily. Gah. One other good thing is that they seem to be open late, and do serve cactus on each taco. Those are both pluses. Like I said, I because they serve shrimp and fish tacos, I’ll probably be returning, as I like those options. Overall, a decent place if you’re in the neighborhood and want some good, Mexican food.

It’s Sunday, it’s gloomy, and I haven’t left the house all day. It is the end of the weekend and I haven’t done any of my usual chores and I wanted to cross eating dinner off of my list. I didn’t feel like cooking so I was looking around the hood to find a place to eat… potentially a new place to eat. I saw that Taqueria Distrito Federal was on my bookmark and my friend had recommended this place. Looked at the menu and it looked very promising, so why not? Called in and ordered a carne asada burrito and the S.O. had the combo 1(with Horchata). It only took 15min from when we called and when we picked it up. It is hard to find the menu online so I took a picture of the updated prices… As far as the food, it was delicious. The burrito was good, the meat was warm, and you can tell that they had just made it. The tacos were good and fresh avocado is always appreciated. Horchata is not over seasoned by cinnamon and actually tasted like a rice drink that it is. Service was great, it was very easy to order on the phone and we were greeted as soon as we step foot on the patio. I like that. I felt welcomed. I will be back again.

Patio seating is a hot commodity at this casual neighborhood hole-in-the-wall. Service is pretty efficient. Horchata is reasonably silty, and their thin but avocado-creamy salsa verde goes as fast as the chips. Skip the burritos, tacos are the way to go here. Chicharron en salsa verde has a very soft texture, but their lengua is some of my favorite in the area. Tripa, al pastor, and carne asada are very respectable meat options, but I wouldn’t turn my nose up at another taste of their barbacoa chivo and barbacoa res. Legit enough to temporarily curb my craving for Mexican food. Someday I’ll leave room to try their weekend soups too.

I never would have heard of Taqueria Distrito Federal had it not been for a groupon-like deal and I’m certainly glad I did. TDF is not, by any means, a destination but it does give you some damn good tacos. On a hot summer evening it must have been at least 100 degrees inside the small shop so luckily we were able to snag a seat outside on the patio. The patio is pretty small though so you’re able to very clearly hear the FaceTime conversations of Chilean fans who have just lost a World Cup game. The al pastor and goat tacos were my favorite. There’s a combo meal for five tacos, dessert and a drink. If you’re lucky and they’re out of dessert like they were when we went you can snag an extra taco instead and try the entire taco menu. They’re served with avocado slices, radishes and cucumbers on double layered corn tortillas. Justin’s Jamaica was good — not as syrupy as a lot often are. I had the beef fajitas which comes with black beans and Mexican rice. They were good and there was a bounty of yellow, red and green peppers plus onions and tomatoes, but after sampling the flavors of the tacos, the meat wasn’t quite as exciting. The portion size was large enough to take home leftovers. The horchata was good, pretty sweet and not too grainy. If you do have one of those coupon codes to use, make sure you get a full bill and double check the numbers. We were given a nice round number as a total and had to inquire why it was so high(and convenient). We were«accidentally» overcharged but they were nice enough about correcting it. Two big meals including two non-alcoholic drinks for less than $ 30 was definitely worth while, but less than $ 20 with the deal made it a steal.
