Target

My recent trip to Target less than a week ago (in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington D.C. near the Columbia Heights metro) consisted of me getting the cheapest roll of toilet paper and some socks for my husband and I. I have shopped at this Target from time to time since 2010 and one of the positives about this store is that the items that I need are frequently easy to find and the shelfs are well-​organized. Fortunately, the cashier I had also had a pleasant personality and my wait in the line was pretty brief. The additional positive is that this Target store has two levels of merchandise (for instance, the first floor has hair products, toilet paper, cleaning supplies etc while the second floor has merchandise such as some items for the house such as certain furniture and more).The only caveat is that I couldn’t find the winter boots I was looking for at this Target store. I tried the Women’s section and they did have some great looking and comfortable boots for the winter just not for my price range of 20 to 30 dollars (I ended up ordering a pair online from Amazon). I truthfully was going to try the men’s section to see the variety and affordability for men’s boots but I did not see any employee nearby to ask. However, in Target’s defense I did not even attempt to look around and/​or stick around long enough for any Target employees to ask for options in relation to boots that were in the 20 – 30 dollar range, I’m usually the type of person that would go ahead and order something online and/​or at another store if purchasing the item can wait).

I love how organized this place is. The bathrooms are horrible. But the customer service is great. I mainly come here for children’s clothing, shirts, and jackets. This store isn’t meant for the curves down under.

I came here the day before the blizzard and was impressed by how well they handled the big crowds at 9am. Most things you’d think would be out of stock were still there, like cereals, chips, milk… I found everything I came for. I was bummed there were no express lanes open since I only had a few things to buy whereas other people were stocking up like Armageddon was upon us. But I still only had to wait about 5 – 10 minutes to be checked out. I consider it a successful trip.

i called to get information, the customer service was so bad, one hang up on me, i called back and she kept pressing the off button. why hire people who dont like their jobs? hire people that need the money and will offer customer service. i will never shop at this target. i hope it closes down soon. smh

Decent Target, and I’ve visited this Target more than other ones (since it’s fairly easy to get to on the metro — green /​yellow line). Columbia Heights isn’t the safest area of the city and I wouldn’t visit this Target late at night, but I really like visiting during the daytime. It’s conveniently located a block away from the Columbia Heights metro station and also located in the same complex as a Marshalls, Best Buy, Payless Shoe Source, etc. I’ve generally found what I’ve needed from there. I will certainly be back again, as it’s the only Target conveniently located on a metro line in DC.

I like this target. Everything was in stock and the store was clean. I liked that there was a manager walking around the front opening up additional registers. This made me appreciate spending my moneythere. This is probably one of the main reasons why I prefer shopping target over Wal-​Mart. I believe they may have had ten registers open which was good for the time of day and the crowd.
Also the items I wanted were readily available. This also happens every time I shop this location. This by far is one of my favorite locations. Not too mention there is a chick fila that has recently opened up downstairs.
The only thing I would like to see is more menu options at the café inside of target. I would like to just have a one stop shop experience but the food is underwhelming inside the café.

This is a basic Target in terms of what they have in stock. But some of the staff is less than helpful. (Not all, by any means — some are really good.)
A few days ago, I got in a line there because the checkout light was on. The line slowly advanced, but at the register, it turned out there was no one there — the line was actually stretching to the next register beyond, with six more people in line ahead of me. I flagged down a manager and said I got in the line because the light was on, and that the added wait time was unacceptable. (Others who had also thought the register was open agreed.)
The manager seemed surprised that there was no one at the register. I asked why the light was on if the register was closed, and she said she «can’t control whether a light is on or off.» I pointed out that as a manager, that was part of her job. She said she was not responsible. I was moved to another register, where the credit card reader was broken. Then again, with the same problem. Finally, at a fourth register, I was able to check out.

To this date, I have NEVER been able to successfully purchase a product from Target that I wanted. I tried to order a drugstore product that
indicated was in local stores. I wasted a boatload of time going to each store and trying to get customer service to find it. After a long wait, they determined they didn’t carry it. The stores are so big and the staff so unhelpful, I wasted time walking to and from where the product should have been and trying to get help to find it.
Then I thought I would try to buy a product online on Cyber Monday. After over 100 tries, I could not even put the product into my basket. It came back with, «There’s a line for this item.
So sorry for the delay, but you can save your place in line by staying on this page & trying again to add the item to your cart. Thank you for your patience!» Right, staying on the page until the next century? My patience can only go so far. That was my last attempt with Target — ANYTHING.

I’m giving this Target two stars (versus one) because at least I was able to locate and purchase a couple of the items I came for. Don’t let the extra star fool you though. This is by far the worst Target store I’ve ever visited.
* The low or even non-​existing stock is incredibly frustrating! It feels like mind numbing aggravation to finally locate the item you’ve been looking for, only to discover the last one on the shelf is ripped, scratched or otherwise flawed, and there are no replacements. Otherwise, you may frequently just not find the item at all, as they’re missing mass numbers of normally stocked items completely.
* The store is a complete mess. (Look at the photos I took.) I’ve never seen such a disaster in any Target anywhere. I literally started shopping from the FLOOR because there were that many things down there!
* The staff moved at the same pace mold grows. As a whole, they weren’t any friendlier than your average hungry teenager either. (This was at least my experience.) I waited in line for almost a half hour for just four people to checkout in front of me.)
I will not be going back. Unless I visited on a really bad day, I would suggest you do whatever it takes to avoid this location, especially during the busy holiday season.

Although this Target is conveniently located to me, it’s always very, very crowded and the employees are a little lackluster. Specifically, I wanted to know where I could find portable chargers, and the employees directed me to the electronics but had no clue from there. I love Target, but this one can turn into a zoo during check-​out especially.

Not a fan of this target, and generally speaking I can tolerate even the worst target establishments. The floor staff can usually be seen chatting it up with one another, and typically won’t offer customers assistance (which goes against corporate policy). My most recent experiences have coincided with BTS season, which is hectic, so my judgement may be a little clouded, but still. Basic customer service is not that hard to offer, and time and time again this place has shown how much it sucks in that capacity.
Pluses: I’ve had mostly good experience with cashiers, and the express checkout section here is great. Unlike a lot of targets (and all walmarts) I’ve been to, this establishment puts a premium on keeping a lot of cashiers on duty in order to avoid crazy lines.

This has to be one of the worst Target stores in the country. Contrary to what some of the others have said, it’s the clientele that make shopping here such an unpleasant experience. I refused to deduct stars for that because Target can’t prevent the blatantly ignorant and classless people from being who they are. My deductions are mainly for stocking and management’s inability to control the chaos and disorganization of the store. I’ll get back to that later.
I want to walk people through my experience at Target. As I come in, a guy decides to scurry diagonally into me. He walks forward and then stops abruptly in front of me as if he has never encountered shopping carts before. My horror begins…
I usually avoid the carts because of how large they are, but today I needed to use one. It was also easier to have one because I had a few other bags from other stores. Hardly anyone went down the aisle immediately to the left. Target should have placed some of the bargain stuff down that way to keep the aisle by the checkout clear. I make my way over to the pharmacy and shampoo/​soap area. One lady’s kids were running around like wild animals. She was too busy opening bottles and smelling lotions. I tried my best to get around her cart to get to a product. Before leaving that aisle and turning, I check to see if anyone was coming my way. It was clear, so I went ahead, but then a sorority girl quickly turned from the aisle next to mine, coming at me with full force and fled without an apology. I get what I needed and headed down a main aisle only to see a ghetto mama intentionally slam a guy with her shoulder. I thought that perhaps it was an accident and give her the benefit of the doubt. She was headed in the direction of where I wanted to go, and I saw her slam into a teenager, another guy and then a soccer mom. This diva did not care. I really wanted to say something but felt dizzy from all of the chaos.
The soccer mom she hit didn’t seem to notice that the crazy woman hit her because she was too busy bossing around her college-​age daughter. I was looking at a few wall hooks, and she stretches her flabby arm in front of me, blocking my view, to direct her daughter to what she thinks would be fantastic for her dorm room. They argue about it, so I decide to quickly pick something and leave. Of course, their cart was blocking my way. Why don’t people try to pull their cart over to the side instead of leaving it at the center?!
I head over to the TV areas, as I am finally thinking about getting one. I had my cart behind me and stepped back so I can see what size would look right in my living room. The family carts directly in front of me and starts going back and forth about the girl’s roommate not having a TV and how ridiculous it is that she has to buy one. I highly doubt anyone is forcing her to buy it, but whatever. They block my line of vision, so I had to step aside. They take up the entire space of the TV area (about 5 of them.) The bossy mom (seems to be a trend) «fetches» an associate and asks stupid questions. She really wanted to be heard. I had enough and walked away.
A man’s bratty kids run around from aisle to aisle. The boy ran right into me. The man’s not even supervising them. A couple walk slowly down a narrow aisle. No one can get around them. I take an escalator down. Another couple blocks the escalator because they have to stand there and hold hands. I dodge a few international kids. I knew the girl was going to make a turn and not see me. I really hope these people don’t DRIVE.
I make my way to furniture to look at accent chairs. It’s funny how the accent chair display wasn’t near the accent chairs, so I had to walk around looking for it. Another «look at me and how ghetto and tough I am» girl almost collides into me. She walked so crazily that an associate had to move over quickly, and the associate nudges me. Of course, the associate says: «Oh my gosh, I am so sorry!» It wasn’t her fault. She was just a victim.
I end up waiting in line having to endure screaming toddlers, people who want to direct others to where they should go and rude people talking on cell phones like they’re having conversations with the deaf. I didn’t get all the items I wanted because 1) a lot of the popular items were sold out and weren’t restocked. Most of the aisles had one or two item tags without any items. Vice-​versa, there were a ton of items without any prices. I didn’t buy them because I didn’t know how much they cost. This is a major problem with management, purchasing and facilities. Although you’re making a lot from all the trashy people who shop here, you’re also losing money when someone comes to get an item and can’t find it or doesn’t want to buy it because it’s too annoying to cart it over to the price checker.
I might need to start ordering online more. This place is a joke.

Part One of a Three-​Part Review ~ Try to Follow along
So at 9 pm or so I check my phone and realize I can be at this Target before closing if I take Metro from that current location of Silver Spring station on the Red Line over to the Green Line and to Columbia Heights. That’s part of what makes this place Five-​Stars. Easily accessible.
So I go into the Mall-​like complex that also houses Modells and Bed, Bath and Beyond and head up the escalator stairs to Target. It’s my second trip here and I end up doing two things: buying a $ 10 polo shirt (which I’d later pick up something similar from @ Modells) and a pair of jeans. I also do some scouting and see they have a nice selection of beer and wine. «hey I can get mini-​microwaveable Deep Dish Pizza as well!!!». It’s a wrap. I offically Love This Place. Good location, accessible, open late, diverse enough to be interesting plus some other convenient stores nearby. On top of all that, at check-​out I saw No Joke: Birthday Cake Flavored Gum. WTF !
Five Stars ~

You seriously can’t expect a Target centrally located in a very busy neighborhood to be top quality, but one star you guys? It’s not that bad at all!
It’s but so much kindness even I’d want to give people in a store full of irate, impatient customers. My advice is to go into such an establishment with realistic expectations and you won’t be disappointed. If you’re looking for an item that is sold out, or you think something is priced too high, why are you directing your attitude toward the associates? We may be in a rush, or frustrated, or in desperate need of an item, but remember the associates are people too! I have yet to walk into this Target and not see the distressed look upon associate’s faces as they interact with customers sporting attitude. I’ve worked retail not nearly as strenuous but I was bogged down by the energy of others… here, I can only imagine!
But with that being said, I haven’t had a problem with someone pointing me in the right direction or even walking me to the appropriate aisle. I do wish they would open more checkouts because it can get rather annoying waiting in line but I come here often and I think they are understaffed. Other than that, I don’t really have any complaints.

Decent Target (if you overlook the fact that the grocery section was closed a few weeks back for rat droppings!!!) right by the metro in CoHi. It always seems just slightly understaffed for the crowds — and this being the only Target in DC, is bound to get crowded. Lord grant you patience if you have to make a return! Otherwise, same old stuff as any other Target.

When I moved to this area, I was so excited to have a Target within three blocks.
However, they usually run out of things that are on sale in their ads, and also the store is such a mess with trash from customers left around the store, and random items placed in the wrong area constantly. I find myself having to drive to Virginia or Maryland to get something I may really want, instead of saving time and gas by coming here.
Yesterday, I went in to get some cards for Mother’s Day and found one of the lanes that is not usually an express lane was roped into the express section. I saw other customers going under the black partition as it was set up super long, but no one was in line. I asked a cashier when she was finished ringing someone up if I had to go behind the partitioned area. She said yes.
While I stood there trying to decide if it was worthwhile to go into that area to wait for an express lane, or to go to another line, the cashier then decided to yell at me with attitude…“the line starts back there!“
I said calmly…“I heard you the first time. I have had multiple ankle surgeries and am trying to figure out the best place to wait in line. Please call your manager.“
Her response…“You call her!“
Are you kidding me?
I bought what I needed, and then had another cashier call a manager. That manager had to call a higher up manager, as this cashier was being so terrible and talking over the first manager who came over.
I don’t care if you work as a cashier in a busy Target… you are supposed to treat customers respectfully, without yelling or an attitude. It is also YOUR job to contact the manager.
It is because of so many people in the city that have to deal with such poor service that this kind of behavior is allowed to continue.

I appreciate having a Target in a prime spot in DC for the convenience. But I really dread coming here. Everything is a mess and you will find things constantly placed in the wrong aisles. Additionally, it is always a gamble regarding how you will be treated– some staff there are really nice and helpful, such as customer service, who always have been very helpful in spite of dealing with very rude customers– but others are very intimidating– in particular the dressing room workers. I was there one time and one worker literally yelled at all the people in line to move farther back. I also have on many occasions heard the dressing work workers talk about how stupid customers are and how much they hate their jobs.
Two stars because I like having a Target close by, otherwise not so great.

I know not why I like this Target so. But I do. Maybe it is because they have one of the best selections of cosmetics & hair care products for PoC that I’ve seen … pretty much anywhere in the DMV. Or because it is markedly less gross than other Targets in my area.
The way they have often have someone directing traffic for the express lanes is smart.
But anyway, I really like it.

This target is convenient as its located in the DC USA shopping center in Columbia heights. If you don’t find what you need here, chances are there a more specialized store within a block that will have what you need.
This place gets crowded — especially in weeknights and weekends. It’s often full of teens which can make your shopping experience less pleasant.
The staff is neither friendly not motivated so don’t expect help finding what you’re looking for.
They carry everything other targets do, but given the stores High volume they are often out of a many items. Clothing is especially bad, regular sizes are near impossible to come by.
The store is laid out over two floors, the lower main level had a decent selection of fresh produce, dairy, frozen goods and dry stock. It’s no substitute for a grocery store but definitely hits the spot if you’re shopping for a fee select items.
The store also has a Starbucks and a pizza Hut for which the lines are always unbelievably long — skip these and go to the starbucks accross the street for better service and quality!
Due to the volume, lines to check out are often incredibly long. Be prepared to wait.

I can’t even handle how terrible this Target is.
Yes the weekends are packed here making shopping a less than desirable situation, but that is only the beginning of the terribleness. No matter what time of day, there are never enough people working the cash registerers. I’ve been in more than one time when several cash registers were completely down or not taking credit/​debit cards.
The staff here are just really not very nice. One employee told me she hated customers… When waiting on the dressing room one day, two employees were deep in conversation and completely ignored me. One staff member tried to charge me for using 100 bags instead of 1 and then was so grumpy when I asked him to enter 1 instead of 100. It’s a tense environment.
The layout of this store is also a little cumbersome. Women’s clothes, school supplies, groceries, medicine, accessories (except shoes), some housewares and a very small cosmetics section are located on the first floor. Technology, the rest of the housewares, cards, mens clothing, children’s clothing and shoes are located upstairs. This target has an excessive amount of some items like paper towel varieties and hardly any of other items like hairspray.
I continue to go to this Target because of general proximity. Come here with low expectations and it won’t be so bad.
