The Medical Office of Maximilian Oshalim, MD PLLC

Dr. Oshalim is a great guy and very relaxed. He answered all my questions, didn’t seem distracted, and showed care for his patient. There are dogs in the office, which is another cool touch and is different than many other clinics. The staff are nice, responsive on the phone, and helpful.

Dr. Oshalim is extremely smart, professional, informative and patient. He knew my chart thoroughly and gave me great counseling. The front desk folks are also very courteous and professional. I’ve had very positive experiences here. I have recommended him to my closest friends.

I have been followed by Dr Moody for about two years.
Without even mentioning the dogs and the very long and systematic waiting time, I have decided to stop seeing him when I realized that he absolutely does not care about his patients. He automatically prescribe the strongest drugs available, he barely listens, and frankly, as one of the reviews mentioned, he is really not clean (unshaven, wearing tee-​shirts). I also was puzzled when, replying to my question asking about recycing my old medicines, he told me to bring them to the office because they can find people to use them.
I then decided to see Dr Max Oshalim (same practice). I have been with Dr Oshalim for two years. Dr Oshalim is inconsistent and gave me two contradictory advices in the last four months. I had an appointment schedule at 9:15am on a Friday. He took me at 9:55am!!! How can you be so late at the start of the day?!! There is really no excuse — and of course no one apologized.
The last time I saw Dr Oshalim, I did a strep test. He told me that he will call me in a week (btw — when my child is tested for strep, we receive the results instantaneously at the doctor’s office!). Not only it took a week, but he never called me back! I had to call the office three times to obtain the results and the last person I had on the phone lied, telling me that they lost the paper (really? I thought they just started to use this online system). The three times I called, the person on the phone told me that Dr Oshalim will call me. He never called me! But I received at the very least five automatic calls from a machine asking me to connect online to access my results. …
Last but not least, they decided recently to switch their system to an online system that patients can also access remotey. WITHOUT my consent, all my medical information has been transferred to this online system. I was horrified. I did not activate my online account but I kept on receiving emails asking me to activate it. I told the doctors but nothing changed.
I kept on going there for the past years because I am healthy and just needed a check up. But frankly, if something bad happens, I realized that I would never trust neither Dr Moody nor Dr Oshalim. So I decided to change for good, and also to let the community know about these two doctors.
I also think that the positive reviews for these two doctors are fake. It is really impossible to say something positive about this practice. These two doctors purely and simply do not care about their patients.

Max Oshalim doesn’t seem to be a very good doctor, and this practice is more about quirky theatrical décor than solid healthcare.
— Mis-​diagnosis. This physician diagnosed me in 2011 as having an inflamed tendon. This led to an incorrect prescription, and a month of walking with a painful limp. Thankfully a separate podiatrist quickly diagnosed my stress fracture.
— Unresponsiveness. No one answered the phone at this office for a whole week. When someone finally scheduled a routine physical, they failed to mention that fasting is needed before a blood test, thus requiring an additional visit.
— Unprofessional bedside manner. Dr. Oshalim’s «preventative counseling» was very cursory, i.e. just asking my height and having me stand on a body mass index scale, plus rudely saying «do you work out at ALL?!» You’d think that med school would teach some tact.
— Surprise charges. The front desk said my routine physical would be free under my good insurance. After a half-​dozen phone calls, it turned out that the un-​requested 10-​minute «counseling» set me back $ 106 out of pocket.
— Outsourced care. The office’s student helpers are more comfortable to work with, but seem even less qualified. One young student said «your vitamin D looks really especially great», then Dr. Oshalim said I had a deficiency. No one commented on the mixup.
— Unusually-​long waits. I sat for a full hour after appointment time, then was told I’ve have to return a third time for more routine tests that they failed to do on the first two visits — no explanation why they didn’t just get things done earlier. Maybe the students were out that day.
— Lack of follow-​up. The receptionist couldn’t even open the bill from this office, and said Dr. Oshalim would call me back to answer my question. Take a guess as to whether he ever did…
Talk to your friends about their physicians before you consider coming here, unless you choose a doctor based on whether dogs roam around the office.

He takes the time to answer all my inane questions with thorough explanations of my lab reports. Very friendly and personable.

Administrative staff and medical lab BioReference are deplorable. If you are thinking of becoming a new patient to this office, DON’T. It’s not worth it. They were both not accountable for working together even though they’re in the SAME PHYSICAL OFFICE, to the point that I ended up in collections. It was for a lab bill they told me not to worry about.

Friendly doctor in a bad practice. The doctors do not request permission before having a student conduct most of your examination. More importantly, the office does not follow CDC guidelines in testing patients. They test for everything, without indications of relevance. Not sure whether this is due to incompetence or whether they profit from billing for each test. The patient is of course charged lab fees for unecessary tests. They are also very keen to prescribe medication, and the dogs in the office are unprofessional.

Dr Oshalim is hands down the best doctor I have ever had. He has helped improve my life in so many ways from helping with ADHD to Adult Acne. He takes his time to discuss things and explains things, He is up and current on all matters concerning health and wellness. I have lived in many places from Manhattan to Miami Beach and he was a game changer! I’m sad because I’m moving to Vegas and won’t seehim anymore :(

Dr. Oshalim is the best doctor I’ve ever had! I’ve been going to Dr. Oshalim since early 2010, or even late 2009. He’s kind, personable, attentive, and thorough. If you have any questions, always feel free to ask him. He will answer your question in the most detailed and understandable way possible. One memorable visit included a detailed diagram he drew for me of lungs during his explanation of how an inhaler helps me breathe better.
Dr. Oshalim takes his time and is thorough, helping you feel more comfortable and confident in his knowledge and diagnosis. He doesn’t try to sell you on unnecessary medication or treatment, and will talk you through possible treatment options (for your information) before he suggests the best one for you.
The office is also great. If there’s ever a medical necessity for me to see Dr. Oshalim on the same day, they did everything they could to fit me in. The office, along with Dr. Oshalim, is also great with following up with test results, etc.
I’ve recommended Dr. Oshalim to several people, many of whom are now regular patients, and will continue to give him my highest recommendation.
And of course, the office dog (s) are always a plus!

There is no better doctor than Dr. Oshalim! Dr. O is professional, knowledgeable, attentive, available, thorough, and charismatic. I rarely have to wait for more than perhaps a few minutes before the doctor can see me, and once he does, he is careful to take his time to understand my complaints before he begins to take action. I feel comfortable and confident during each visit, and appreciate the professionalism of the office setting.
I suffer primarily from reactive asthma on a regular basis, and Dr. O has helped me get my breathing under control throughout the year! I would recommend Dr. Oshalim to anyone looking for an outstanding PCP. There is no hesitation that I recommend Dr. Oshalim with a 5-​star rating.

Dr. Oshalim is easily the best PCP I have had. He always listens to me and I never feel rushed despite the fact that I always have a thousand different medical issues to complain about. He was especially helpful while I was recovering from my concussion, when I was having frequent headaches. He has a way of making you feel super comfortable, which I find is unique among physicians. 5 stars for me!

Dr Oshalim is fantastic. I would highly recommend the office to anyone. Like many others, after multiple visits to various urgent cares — one of which put me in the ER, I was also in a rush to find a PCP finally in DC. Dr Oshalim’s office came recommended both via Unilocal and my endocronologist.
I have thus far been impressed with the level of care as well as the feeling that I am a human being and not just a patient. They fit me in immediately, and yes the first day I had to wait awhile but you know what, they are fitting me in so sometimes you have to just wait. The med students are all very nice, and its probably the most thorough medical history that anyone has ever taken — and Dr Oshalim asked follow up questions and wanted to address issues that other Dr’s in the past have just blown by. He also is willing and ready to communicate and share information with other specialists that you are working with and do his things in conjunction. It feels like there is a team helping me to address issues instead of a disjointed system that I am having to piece together.
He also took the time to personally call me to discuss results of bloodwork and MRI’s and spent a considerable amount of time on the phone answering questions. I can’t think of the last time that the actual doctor has taken the time to call and follow up.
This office is great, they take stressful situations and allow you to be human and ask questions and never make you feel like a question about your health doesn’t matter.

4.5 stars! Love this doctor! He has a great sense of humor so I can look forward to a couple of funny comments whenever I visit. The reception also tries to fit you in depending on how soon you can see him. I could wish though that they can be friendlier. I had a problem with them one time when they tried to charge me more than my co-​pay. I was able to fix it when I called my insurance. I recommended him to my friends and they are happy with him.

I would like to let everyone know what a jewel Dr Oshalim is. I saw Dr Mustafa on my first two visits to his office & he was wonderful. However Dr Osahlim is equally … if not better. I highly recommend them both.

I called Dr. Mustafa’s office in a panic when I had a broken foot and needed a simple referral in order to see an ortho specialist (an annoying paper-​trail policy courtesy of my horrible HMO). The receptionist was very helpful and sympathetic even though I was a first-​time patient she said she could schedule me in on the same day to see Dr. Oshalim. Knowing how hard it is to get last minute appointments in DC as a new patient, I jumped on the opportunity and am glad I did.
Although I only needed a referral – x-​rays had already been done in the urgent care clinic and it was pretty clear my foot was broken – Dr. Oshalim took the time to assess my condition and pain level and make sure I was as comfortable as I could be in a not-​so-​comfortable situation. He also commiserated w/​me about the ridiculous paperwork insurance companies make both patients and doctors go through to receive proper care. He was friendly, knowledgeable and as helpful as a doctor could be for a last-​minute patient he was seeing for the first time. He even offered to sign my cast if it turned out I had to get one (thankfully not!).
I highly recommend Dr. Oshalim and the staff at Dr. Mustafa’s office. The last thing anyone wants to do when sick or injured is to deal w/​difficult appointment scheduling, insurance hassles, and impatient doctors, but Dr. Mustafa’s office really made a painful situation as smooth, efficient and friendly as possible. I plan to stick w/​this office as long as I am in DC.

Dr. Oshalim is fantastic! Have you ever had a Dr. who you worry is spending TOO much time getting to know your case? I hadn’t…until Dr. Oshalim. He is patient, smart, kind, and reasonable. I went to him because I had had a series of unexplained colds over the course of a year — more than I’d ever had in a similar time period before. He performed a full physical and figured out that I had a vitamin D deficiency. Apparently, my new windowless office had more far reaching effects than just being gloomy.
Since then, I have referred my wife to Dr. Oshalim. She went to see him with a bad cold, and he personally called two days after her appointment to check up on her.
I’ve also seen Dr. Mustafa twice. He is equally fantastic.
I can’t say enough good things about this practice. The office is about as campy as the Broadway production of Xanadu, filled as it is with autographed posters and theatrical memorabilia, but for me that makes it fun and personal (so does the presence of Dr. Moody’s lounging golden retriever).

I think the Doctor was great, the staff was efficient and friendly, but i had beef with the fact that i had blood work done and have called like 3 or 4 times now, and have yet to hear back. I was told to call one week after my appointment, which i did, left a message… called again… left another message… and so on. Is it really hard to get a response, even if it’s just «yeah, you’re healthy, see ya soon»? Every other doctor i’ve been to at least leaves a voicemail with any test results. Its just really annoying, but while i was there the visit went fine.

I have been to Moody’s office three times now, and have had Oshalim two time and he is by far the most kind, professional, smart and apt doctor i’ve ever had. I know it sounds like a lot to say, and he is young, but after jumping from doctor to doctor for years he is a keeper. He gives every detail attention, follows up, and ensures that I always get better. I love Moody’s office and Dr. Oshalim makes it even better!

Dr. Oshalim actually works for Dr. Mustafa’s office (
), but I’ve never actually seen Dr. Mustafa and I had a really great experience with Dr. Oshalim, so I decided to add a listing for him.
So anyway, I had a miserable allergic reaction to a seizure medication I had just started, but I wasn’t able to get into the neurologist for a couple of weeks, and so I started frantically searching for a primary care physician in DC. I stumbled across the listing for Dr. Mustafa, and several people mentioned that they were really good about squeezing in sick people. I called the office, and had no trouble getting an appointment with Dr. Oshalim, even as a new patient-​as soon as I told the receptionist that I had a fever and a full-​body rash, she fit me in, no questions asked.
Once I was at the office, Dr. Oshalim was great. I was a little worried about having someone who wasn’t a neurologist switch my seizure medication, but he really seemed to know what he was talking about. He was really friendly, and seemed happy to answer all my questions, even though I’m one of those people who always has to asks a ton of questions, even if I don’t know what I’m talking about (as is definitely the case when it comes to medicine). This appointment was several weeks ago, but I held off on writing a review until after seeing the neurologist, because an amazing bedside manner wouldn’t have really done any good if he had made a bad call about my treatment (see doctor-​critics of Unilocal,user reviews of doctors aren’t just a «popularity contest»!). The neurologist said that he made a perfect decision though, and kept me on the medication that Dr. Oshalim had prescribed. So in summery: office is great about fitting in people who really need to see a doctor, even when they’re first-​time patients; he’s very friendly; great at answering questions in a way that my non-​doctor brain can understand but without sounding condescending or anything; and he’s quite knowledgeable, even if fields that aren’t his specialty, such as neurology. I’d confidently recommend him to anyone in need of a doctor.
