This is a follow-up review. I brought in another batch of shirts, suits, etc. Unfortunately again, all of my shirts were really wrinkled. Not just a little wrinkle here and there but wrinkles that looked like I rolled it into a ball and threw it on my floor for a week. I hate to «bash» new companies on Unilocal but this is 2 attempts, months apart and many pieces and types of clothing. Literally my shirts looked worse than when I brought them in. My suits and jackets looked fine this time though. It was just the button down shirts.

Very good service. I took in an old, beloved trench coat that had set-in stains from a decade ago. They did a very good job of resuscitating it. My only complaint: the $ 18 price tag. That said, coming back to D.C. after a few years away has meant daily sticker shock! Bottom line: I would go back to these guys again.

#honest I’m not exactly sure I why had $ 40 in my shirt pocket to start with, but nevertheless I did. Khadijah found the $ 40 and immediately returned it to me. I really appreciate great customer service coupled with honesty.

I had to get some pants altered on a Sunday and my normal, and reliable, dry cleaner(Bessons) was closed, so I figured I’d give these guys a try since they were so well reviewed. Big mistake. I brought the pants in and tried them on. I needed them hemmed and the waist brought out an inch or two. The guy working there rolled up the legs for the hemming and then just eye-balled the waist. I wasn’t thrilled about this, but figured it was fine given how well reviewed the place is. I got the pants back a week later. The hemming was fine, but the waste had been let out a centimeter, if at all. I asked the person there if they could be refit given that they had barely been altered at all. He had no idea what was going on and told me to come back on a Sunday when the«seamstress» would be there and could take a proper measurement. So I come back yet again on a Sunday and find the same guy working there from my first visit. The seamstress isn’t there and apparently she never comes in to the store. I ask him if he could take the measurement and he fumbles around with a tape measure for a bit. It seemed like he’d never taken a measurement before. He announced the pants would have to be taken out four inches, which was flatly insane. Then he tried measuring again and determined that one inch would be appropriate. He said he would send them out again to their plant in Virginia, but at this point I’d simply lost faith in anyone working here. I asked if I could be reimbursed for the alteration, but not the hemming(which was fine), and he said he didn’t know how to give a reimbursement. I asked if the person there during the week knew how to do this and he said, «No, that guy doesn’t really speak English.» He offered to call his superior sometime during the week to figure out how to give a reimbursement, but at this point I was just tired of dealing with this place, so I said I would just take the pants and try to get a reimbursement by phone. I don’t understand how these people are so well-reviewed, but the lesson of this for me was to just stick with Bessons. Update: Not long after my last visit, I received a call from the owner personally apologizing for the inconvenience. He offered to reimburse me the cost and still complete the alteration on the house. He seemed very sincere and it was a very classy offer, so I’m upgrading the review. He also explained that the employee couldn’t give me a refund because he wanted those requests run through him, but that he realized this was very inconvenient for customers and that he was rethinking it as a system. It’s always nice to have a company admit their mistake and try to make it right.

Very friendly and knowledgeable staff + ridiculous amount of attention to detail = well worth the 25 cents per shirt more than the place around the corner. For example, one time the guy working the shop called me because he noticed my buttons were an exotic type and may break during a standard clean and press, so he asked if I wanted to have it specially treated. Although that cost me a bit more, I really appreciated him flagging this and giving me the option. If you have nice clothes and want them well taken care of, I’d say its worth a little bit more… and its really not that much more. Great hours too.
