CLOSED! Following our regulation Christmas Day movie at the nearby Avalon Theatre we happily walked down to Tia Tian Fang for our regulation Chinese dinner. Closed! unspecified reopening.

Just got back from there. Very angry about the experience tonight. Firstly, they present a wrong dish(fish instead of beef we ordered). We requested to replace it. But we found one piece of fish after we ate. It turned out that they just selected the fish out and put beef in! We were very angry and they didn’t even say sorry about that! They said“That’s how we made it.” How a disrespectable restaurant!

Very good. We enjoyed the veggie potstickers, Mongolian pork, Singapore rice noodles, drunken noodles and spicey eggplant. All was very tasty and we enjoyed our visit.

The food is mediocre. Too many bell peppers used as a «filler» in the kung pao chicken. I have had difficulty using coupons here though ultimately they always relent with a kind of sigh. I just found out they have a delivery fee and sibce I always tip the driver at least $ 5, I must be paying a small fortune for the privilege. Its ok but I would like to know. The receipt might even recite the delivery fee but everything is written in Chinese so who can say? The owners are very nice I have to add. Very nice.

I had the drunken noodles and they were delicious. Portions were huge and prices were fair. The only reason I wouldn’t go back is it was far away from where I live.

Pretty good but not amazing. The owners are super nice though so I might go back just because they were so friendly.

Really great neighborhood spot. The dining area both indoors and out is very nice. I’ve had the general tso’s chicken here which was very good and also have had the chicken w/broccoli which was also delicious. The owners are very pleasant people. They enjoyed having a conversation. Will be a return customer

I have one complaint about this place– the prices. Ohh the prices. I wouldn’t say it was terribly overpriced– but I was surprised. They don’t have the prices on their website so if you’re ordering takeout, you don’t know what you’ll be paying. I ordered beef fried rice and some other dish involving shrimp and it was close to $ 30. This isn’t outrageous, but I would have liked it disclosed beforehand. Other than that, it’s very good. My food was ready in like 15 minutes. I walked inside and found it to be much bigger and cuter than I expected(why are all the stores on this street so much bigger on the inside than they look on the outside?). If I were looking for a sit down Chinese food experience, I would definitely come here. As for customer service, it was great. The lady I dealt with was really nice and friendly. Fortune cookies were included, which made me happy. Chinese food that doesn’t come with fortune cookies is such a let down. The food itself was quite good. Pretty standard for D.C. Chinese food in size and quality. I will definitely be back.

I’m new to DC and have been on the hunt to find«go to» spots for all of my favorite types of food. A Chinese restaurant is essential, especially when you can find one in your neighborhood. I was so pleased when my mom and I wandered up Connecticut Ave and right into Tian Tian Fang. We kept it simple: shrimp fried rice, drunken noodles and spring rolls. We were two happy eaters. The spring rolls are AMAZING. And, they have duck sauce, which I think is more common on the east coast than in the midwest. All of it was so yummy. I’ll admit, it’s a little pricier($ 2 – 3 per dish more) than I’m used to for a regular neighborhood spot, but it’s not a greasyhole in the wall either. In three weeks of being in DC, I’ve eaten there 4 times and each time, I’ve been happy. The major downer for me is that the delivery minimum is $ 22, which for a single girl means takeout or dine in only.

So not sure why they have 3 ½ stars; they should certainly have 5! I’m from California and there are two things we know — Chinese and Mexican food. We ordered the veggie spring rolls, veggie lo mein, and broccoli. Everything was cooked to perfection; the egg rolls were crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside, the broccoli was crunchy and delicious and veggie lo mein was free of oil and gushy veggies. They even have a gluten free option. Best kept secret in DC!

I have trouble even giving this place one star. For many years I’ve ordered from Tian Tian Fang and the quality has gone down while the prices have gone sharply upward. I have no problem paying for good food, but when I look at the bill and realize that my 2 regular dishes — szechuan chicken and mapo tofu with pork — cost me more than $ 30, I start to consider other options. Tian Tian Fang adds $ 4 extra for pork on a tofu dish. And, like others have said, the food pales in comparison with just about any Chinese restaurant in Wheaton or even Bethesda. Don’t even get me started about the delivery fee. Suffice it to say that I will not be returning.

Sorry, but I am not sure what Chinese restaurants the people who like this place have eaten at… If it were even one quarter as good as the authentic Chinese places we eat at in Rockville I would be delighted! I live in the neighborhood and would love to have an even just decent Chinese place to get take out and have a quick family dinner. But after a few tries, we gave up on Tian Tian Fang. One word: bottled garlic, used in profusion in all the dishes. Another word: gloppy sauce. I am still hoping that one day they will hire a better cook…

I’ve mostly had take out here and had lunch once. The couple that runs it is very friendly and happy to see me. Décor is simple but welcoming, not fancy or hip. The drunken noodles are very tasty. My wife likes the chicken and steamed broccoli with garlic sauce. I really enjoy the spicy eggplant and kung pao tofu. I also love the moo shi beef, as do my kids. Dumplings are yummy too.

This is Americanized Chinese through and through. Nothing wrong with it, it is good for what it is. By DC standards, it is solid food. Value vs. Price is good. I have been a half a dozen times for food and/or drinks and ordered out once or twice too and live very close by. I actually found staff to be friendly, though sometimes eager to close if you came 30 minutes or less before closing. One of the ladies is really funny, in fact. Just don’t come expecting authentic and temper your expectations(this is your basic small town-esque Chinese take away/sit in) and you should be fine.

I’ve tried the Fang a few times now, mostly because it’s one of the few places down Connecticut that has convenient parking. There’s a lot right behind the place, but you’ll have to turn off Connecticut a block to get to it. The drunken noodles are really good. It is super garlicky, and that’s a plus for me. They also serve the biggest sesame chicken I’ve ever seen. They’re as big as your face. Unfortunately, they’re a bit dry with all that meat inside. And there’s no sesame seeds. I don’t really care about having seeds on my chicken, but why continue calling it sesame if there’s no sesame? The food is fairly standard Chinese fare, but I appreciate that it’s not anywhere near as heavy/greasy as what you’d get at most other places while still being flavorful. Overall, it’s a satisfying meal, but nothing you’ll be raving about. Bonus points for parking and because they’re always sweet.

This restaurant serves Chinese food that is solid, fresh-tasting, not particularly greasy, and reasonably priced. That is to say, it has everything you want in a neighborhood restaurant. I would not describe it as particularly authentic, and the spices and flavors are a bit muted for my tastes. If you are on a search for authetic Chinese cuisine and would need to travel a long way to get here, I would not bother. But in a strip of rather medicore restaurants, it is a welcome addition.

Stay away from this place! They are SO unfriendly. I grew up going to Mandarin Palace(the restaurant this place replaced) at least once a week, and this place just doesn’t measure up. The service is incredibly slow and the menu is very oddly-laid-out and limited. Their online menu, however, lists everything out in a really organized way… why can’t their print menu be like that? I ordered the lo mein with chicken and the noodles were overcooked and mushy. The chicken with broccoli was ok, but it was in a weird pink sauce, which tasted ok, but looked really unappealing. The tofu with mixed vegetables were good, but also came in the strange-looking pink sauce. However, everything came out hot and fresh and the egg drop soup was very good. One of the strangest things about the place is their reluctance to let you use the coupons they offer, which are presumably to get you to come to the restaurant. We had a coupon for a free bowl of soup and a spring roll with a $ 30 purchase. We purchased more than that worth of food, but they said we could only use the coupon for carry out. We had planned to eat there, and their server would have made more money if we had eaten there, but they made us order our food to go to use the coupon. They said there were instant Groupon deals for use dining in, but I had tried on a previous occasion to use one of those and they wouldn’t let me use it then, either. Anyway, the food is mediocre at best, the service is incredibly slow, and they don’t make it easy to be a patron.

I’m sure this place appeals to some folks, but I just wasn’t impressed. The fried food items made my stomach ache. Scallion pancakes were oily. The calamari was bland. No dipping sauce didn’t help. Edamame can’t be screwed up. However, for the same $ 3.95 or less I’ll buy a bag from Trader Joe’s next time. The meat dumplings are spicy Thai flavored. On a good note, the delivery is fast and friendly. No fortune cookies though :(
