Good, cheap, friendly service. It’s a beautiful thing to have such a friendly greasy spoon a few blocks away. Scrapple and egg sandwich was so damn good, can’t wait to come back for another.

Love Tonys. Nice people. Good, cheap food and close to the bus I need to take to work. I’ve only ever had breakfast. But I want to try their pork chops.

Closed when we came at 630am. Need to update the Unilocal page so people don’t waste their time. Closed for a health violation nonetheless. Won’t be going back.

I would have given this 4 stars had it not been for the wait. The food was good enough. I went on a weekday first and enjoyed the food and service. I went back on a Saturday and waited 5 minutes before ordering which wasn’t terrible. But I waited 30 minutes for pancakes. And the place isn’t big enough to allow for a comfortable wait. I say go but time it right.

I always eat here whenever I’m tired of the carry outs in this neighborhood. Food here is great and even though it seems like its a dangerous neighborhood(because of the men I see standing outside and this place is right next to a liquor store) its pretty safe and no one bothers me as long as I keep my eyes away from staring at them. The service is great and the cashier/order takers are friendly. Food gets to you fast and the location is a few buildings away from where I work. I’m a germaphobe and I think the place could use a little cleaning… Okay, a lot of cleaning. Scrubbing most importantly where they cook the food and where the air vents are at. Overall, great breakfast and lunch!

Great local flare. Food tasted like mom made it, my husband practically licked his plate. Very busy on a Saturday morning but we were able to secure a spot to sit and chat with the locals while we ate. Very entertaining! If you just want a home cooked meal hit up Tony’s.

Nice little and I mean little spot for breakfast. Very Good basic breakfast for $ 5. Having lived my whole life in Pennsylvania Dutch country where scrapple is a staple, I’m always reluctant to order it elsewhere. Tonys was perfect, just like home, and not deep fried like some places. will be back often while I’m in DC renovating my daughter s house.

Super friendly service at this little neighborhood gem on Kennedy. This is exactly how a greasy spoon joint is supposed to be. Great food, great vibe, delicious food with lots of options.

I have lived in this neighborhood for over five years and I never have time or even thought about getting breakfast for myself after making my quick and easy breakfast for my children before school. Well today was the day and I’m so glad I did. It was really like I stepped into a small southern diner with everything a southern mother or grandmother would make for breakfast on Saturday or Sunday – when she had time to make it extra special. I felt very welcomed by the hostess and staff and it seemed like the outside world didn’t matter to anyone as they waited for their customized meals made with love. I had a scrapple and egg sandwich(haven’t had scrapple in 10yrs) one of many breakfast sandwich options and home fries and it was really good! The serving size was definitely more than I expected. The hostess didn’t find out that it was my first time there until I paid, so the warmth of the place was genuine not just to make a good impression on a new customer. Most folks knew each other by name, and the orders were already committed to memory by the staff as well. For years I have seen all of the cars parked wherever possible because of this place and now I understand why. I will definitely be back! Basically you can have grandmas cooking for less than a grande/medium coffee at Starbucks or any breakfast meal at McDonalds. You could either eat in(diner style with stools at the counter) or take it to go. Love this place!

I love diners, that should be said up front. It’s not just about cheap, comfort food, it’s about a warm welcoming and the vibrant energetic feeing the customers and staff give off in unison. I can’t stress how sweet the hostess is. For something that doesn’t actually require a friendly attitude, she goes the extra mile to make you feel like a lifetime friend. The food is what you expect from a diner, but I felt almost giddy when they went to the extent of buttering and jelling my toast. I hope in the future they can accommodate more seating, especially in the incline of living in the neighborhood, but as of now, I couldn’t ask for more in a homey neighborhood diner.

I love this place… It’s quick fast and in a hurry! I guess you can consider it diner/carry out. OH and she gets pretty packed… Standing room only! That’s THEONLYTHING I HATE! Crowded places make me uncomfortable! Other than that it’s cool… Breakfast basics. And CHICKENWINGS! My granny thinks I’m the only person in the world who eats wings at 8am. Apparently not they sell them at that hour. Don’t be afraid! Go inside! The staff is really cool! And the price is right!

This is a really great local place. The ladies behind the counter are nice and they know how to cook an egg. You’d think it would not be that hard but so many places over cook. They knew exactly what scrambled light meant and it came out just right. The grits were also good with a nice buttery flavor. The bacon was crisp. All in all a full breakfast with coffee and orange juice for $ 8.50. That’s a bargain in DC.

The Breakfast here is great! One of my go to stops In the neighborhood and they open at 6am so it’s a great place to go before work. Everyone is friendly and the prices can’t be beat.

Ordered the regular breakfast. Thought the grits were great. Kind of nice retro ambiance. Giving it four stars because of the price too. $ 5.

Okay so here it goes. Another waste of a Saturday morning. My mother and I came to Tonys place because we have vowed to try a new place that Unilocal recommends every weekend. Pros 1.Staff is friendly 2.Portions are large 3.Cheap prices 4.You pay after you eat so if you want to add or take anything off your order your money isn’t tied up. :) Cons 1.Food tasted like something my little sister cooked. Not bad but not worth paying for. The grits were good because they were thick but the French toast was bad. Tasted like burnt bread. Syrup wasn’t warm do that didn’t help. 2.I know I’m in D. C but ughhhh. Bums out front drinking and smoking. When I left I realized why. This place is located between 2 liquor stores. LITERALLY! 3. People talking on their cell phones like their speaking to someone in Egypt and there is a bad connection. Loud much?! 4.Limited seating. You can feed 9 people most at the bar and everyone waiting for their to go orders stand behind you almost hovering over you. 5.Limited parking but I guess that’s any place in dc huh. All in all I won’t return. The two couples/families that sat next to me were pleasant and polite but I’m not here to meet friends I’m here to EAT. :) Drive five minutes down the road and go to Highlands.

I love Tonys. I go there at least once a week. Hungry Man Platter all day. The staff is very friendly and the food is quick to come out. It can get a little crazy on the weekends but it’s worth it, for $ 5 for a full breakfast? Yes please.

This place is awesome. I’ve only been for breakfast, but it was excellent. Their eggs over easy, actually *are* over easy, unlike most places. Also, you can have a full breakfast here for less than a latte at your average coffee shop.

I would like to express my love for this greasy spoon. Wake up wanting a pancake stack with eggs and grits, you got it! They also serve traditonal soul food dishes — mac & cheese, fried fish etc. AND some El Salvadorean treats too — sopa de res and a few other things(I’m assuming these were brought in by the mostly Latino staff). I love taking friends here, or rolling out of bed after a heavy night out and getting some good olé diner food. Oh and the homemade iced tea is delicious. Only downfall is they’re not open Sundays!
