i fell in love with amc’s the walking dead just one episode before their mid-season break. my BFF turned me onto the show, and since the first two seasons were on netflix, we had ourselves a walking dead marathon during the last few days in november. i liked the show so much that i bought the episodes of season 3 on itunes. little did i know that december 2nd was the last episode for nine long weeks, most of which i’d spend shaking like an addict who got the first hit for free, and now can’t find their fix. upper crust pizzeria was the same kind of tease — i thought i had finally found a pizza place that was not only fresh and delicious, but DELIVERS(yeah, i’m lookin’ at you, pizzeria paradiso), and now they are gone. during an attempt to eat well over the holidays, i had abstained from ordering pizza since halloween. little did i know that UCP was closing the doors to their DC location in november, or i would have savored one last slice! UCP not only had delicious pizza combinations with fun, DC-inspired names(the Nationals Park, the FLOTUS, the GW), they had these simply amazing spinach squares(check out my pic: ). light and fluffy inside, with a crisp outer crust, these squares are like portable portions of spinach dip. though they are mighty cheesy, they aren’t at all heavy, and while they give you five squares in each order, i could probably eat about 20. i believe in giving credit where credit is due, so they still get their 5-stars from me. day is done, gone the sun; RIP, UCPDC.

Upper Crust offers FREE delivery with a low delivery minimum($ 10) through ( ). I love this place because it’s one of the few places that I could find in the area that offers wheat crust, and their wheat crust is DELICIOUS! I also love that they have a large variety of unique specialty pizzas. I tried the white shrimp pizza, and it was delicious. I’ve also tried the spinach leaf pizza, which was also tasty. I ordered a Greek salad once and was very happy with it. It was very fresh and the toppings were plentiful. Their delivery range is pretty wide, and they offer free, fast, reliable delivery. I’ve never dined in, but I’d definitely recommend their delivery service.

Upper Crust has fresh tasty pizza and it is a reasonably priced option downtown, hurrah! Have a slice and a salad at lunch and it’s very reasonable. Slices are HUGE and I’ve enjoyed most of the combinations of pizza flavors I’ve tried. It’s a solid option for lunch or basic dinner. It’s not a big place, but you can put a couple tables together outside and manage. They also have a good happy hour and are open at night so if you have a group, family or kids and are walking the general White House area at night it’s a good way to feed a crowd without breaking the piggy bank.

I’m a little skeptical of this place… the place was okay, just your standard pizza place with some bar seating and some patio seating. They serves pizza’s, pasta’s, calzones, wine, and beer. However, what turned me off a bit was the man behind the counter, taking our order. I would like to know that my food is coming to me from someone who is well put together and clean. Otherwise, you really can’t go too wrong with pizza because it was just a pepperoni pizza, Overall, the décor is nice, the food is basic, but the staff could use a little sprucing up — they are suppose to set a good aura for an establishment, not a negative one!

I’d love to be able to provide a review but I can’t because our pizza never came. We sat waiting for our pizza for 30 mins at 7:30pm… well beyond the dinner rush. Two sets of customers who came 15−20mins after us received their orders before us. I went in to check on what was happening while my wife and baby waited outside. The cashier went to check on the pizza and stumbled around looking for it before opening up one pizza oven door and saying that our Old Town pizza was in the oven. I went outside and we waited another 15 mins before my wife went into see what was happening. She was told that it was being made that very second and had never made it to the oven after all. Had we not checked TWICE who knows how longer we would have been sitting outside waiting. We left and headed to the Elephant & Castle down the street.

i had a groupon here that was expiring so i had to use it. i ordered online and then went to pick it up. i got there early, but it was already ready when i got there. i ordered half uncommon and half senate(meat lovers). both were delicious. I loved the thin crust and the jalapenos had a good kick. very yummy, and would definitely go back. the one down fall is that parking is a pain in that area, so the only thing hard about the pick up was finding parking. they should try and reserve a spot out front for pick up orders.

I have had Upper Crust withdrawal for over a year and I was soooooo excited to find out that it was in DC. Upper Crust is a Boston based pizza company, and it was in Boston where I had my first Upper Crust experience. I won’t lie, I was a bit nervous for my first DC Upper Crust experience. I loved Upper Crust in Boston and I was hoping that it would be as good as it was in Boston. I liked the vibe when I first walked in. Modern interior and sleek looking, for a pizza place. It also smelled amazing; reminded me of Boston. The pizza(which is the most important part of this review) was delicious. Just as good as in Boston. The menu is slightly different; I thought the DC inspired pizzas were clever, and very fitting. But everything was delicious. We had the FLOTUS, which had spinach, brocoli, and feta. We added mozzarella and sausage, but it would have been fine without the meat. We just wanted meat. Go to Upper Crust and support this Boston business in DC. Makes me miss Boston though :)

Used a groupon at Upper Crust Pizzeria for one large pizza split between the Bosworth and Patata Rossa ingredients. The Bosworth tasted like any ordinary pizza with pepperoni & baby mushroom; however, Patata Rossa was AMAZING! I’ve never ate pizza made up of rosemary and garlic roasted red bliss potato, caramelized onion & fontina cheese! The flavor just explodes in your mouth! The pizza crust was indeed light and crisp as other Unilocalers reviews. The on-line ordering system worked to perfection for take out as my pizza was hot and ready upon arriving. I would definitely come back and order the Patata Rossa and explore their other pizza specialties.

My wife and I had a Groupon for Upper Crust Pizza and we ordered a thin crust pizza with no cheese and on my half I got anchovies and the rest of the pizza had spinach and basil. They had 10 dollar pitchers of Miller Lite for happy hour, so we got one of those. The service was pretty slow, but people seemed to enjoy the slice and beer for happy hour. Our sauce was cool and the crust was flaky. The sauce wasn’t too spicy, but just piquant enough to make me happy. The restaurant is right by the White House, which is kind of cool. It is pretty small, and more of a take out joint, as the tables were pretty full by 5:30. I enjoyed sitting at the counter and people watching for half an hour. Overall, a classic pizza place with happy time pizza and good prices for beer.

Yummy. I think I would give this place a 4.5** but rounded it down as unless you are taking it out(or having it delivered) their space to eat on the premise is pretty limited. We ordered a few large pizzas as a team today to bring back to the office and all 3 were fabulous. Their thin crust is great, light, crisp, and the whole wheat option is even better. The toppings were delicious and flavorful. The white pizza was particular nice and garlicky, although the one with chorizo was also a crow fav. Honestly one of the best pizza’s I have had in a really long time.

There’s such a thing as Boston-style pizza? Who knew(certainly not me). But consider me a fan. It’s some yummy pizza! I’ve only done delivery(and several times), so no commentary on the actual location. The pizza is long and thin, with that fabulous black, flaky bottom. And I like that the slices are thinner triangles than your typical slices — makes them much easier to manage. And the topping combinations are fabulous. The FLOTUS and veggie are my favorites. And there’s definitely more that I want to try. For delivery pizza, I’m not sure it get a whole lot better than this. I’m most definitely a fan.

This is a delivery review, I have never been in the restaurant! Wow, this was a nice surprise. I’ve been struggling to find pizza that I’m in love with via delivery here in DC. I ordered the Old Town — Arrabbiata sauce(meaning spicy!) with chorizo and garlic. Oh god, it’s delicious. When the pizza guy showed up — speedy with a smile — I grabbed the box, opened it up and grabbed a slice before I could even sit down and found myself moaning and groaning in the kitchen. I did my deliver ordering through Grubhub, as they have a cheaper delivery limit($ 10) than Seamless(which is $ 15). The pizza was delicious. Thanks Upper Crust!

Promising crust. Nice facility. Clean big bathroom. They also have beer. Unfortunately, the special chicken and broccoli pizza lacked any real oomph. Or any real chicken. The ingredient combination was truly underwhelming. Not enough if anything to make a difference to my mouth. Salt? Garlic? Anyone? So… craving for pizza was satisfied, but only barely. I’d give them a second chance, but-until then-not a stellar review. Greek salad? Ok dressing & too much lettuce.

Pizza is a food that I am qualified to rate. Upper Crust could be a 5 star, small-time, cute, pleasant eating experience, but it’s not making an effort. Though it’s not trying very hard, it has a pizza recipe that can be topped by very few for the price. The prices are about right, so that’s not an issue. This location feels very small. There are plenty of tables for parties of 2, so it doesn’t make much sense to bring a large group here. The pizzas will encompass all of your table area, so it’s nice that they are elevated to leave you room for your paper plate. This place is self-serve. You seat yourself, walk up to the counter, order, fill your own drink, get your own plates and napkins, and then you should clean up after yourself. Both employees were behind the counter with their focus wired to their mobile devices before I asked for their unenthusiastic, glassy-eyed help. I don’t mind doing things on my own, but when I arrived, I spent a minute cleaning off my table. That’s not cool. Upper Crust delivers. This makes a lot of sense. I’d be spoiled if I ordered delivery from these guys. They expect about a 10−15% gratuity added to your delivery. I forget exactly how much. I would inquire when you order to get the details sorted. The pizza takes about 15 – 20 minutes to make. When it comes out, you almost forget anything negative that has happened to you that day, let alone the last 20 minutes. The white spinach pizza was an oily one to behold. Very thin, crispy crust supporting thin spinach leaves embedded in hot layers of melted cheese. Definitely worth the 15 dollars for the small size, an 8-slice effort that would satisfy two healthy appetites. When I left, I was very happy with the food but disappointed with the execution. I may just get delivery next time and clean off my own dining room table.

The pizza here is good. It’s thin crust, so it’s flaky and crispy, but not too paper-thin. The slices are huge. I’m talking 3am jumbo slice after leaving the club huge. Well, not jumbo slice huge but pretty big. The best part is that it’s not terribly expensive either. A slice of pepperoni and a fountain soda was less than $ 6, so it’s definitely worth it. The workers inside were really nice and courteous too. I’m really stingy about giving away 4-stars, but this place definitely deserves it. It’s got a good window facing bar so you can peep the hunnies walking by too. Too bad there was construction near by blocking most of the foot traffic.

Great Pizza & very friendly staff. This place is very close to the White House so if u are sight seeing & in the mood for a great slice of thin crust then check them out. They are also very creative with their specials as you can see in the photos gallery. They are the first pizza place I have seen to do specialty shaped pizzas. Check out the heart shaped pizza I uploaded pics of.

I’ll be honest: When Hue said she wanted to go to Upper Crust, my first thought was«Why?» Being from Massachusetts, I know that Upper Crust is infamous for inconsistency. I cannot stand the Salem location, but give me pizza from Brookline or Fenway, and I am happy. And actually, make that the DC location as well. I really enjoyed our Patata Rosa pizza, though I am not typically a fan of white pizzas. I found it to be flavorful with a crisp crust and I liked the addition of the rosemary potatoes. The ambience is nice — casual, but with rich wood flooring and seating. Some staff were friendly, some were not. If you want to check it out, you definitely will not be wasting time or money.

I was not disappointed with the pie. I kept it simple for lunch today and a colleague and I stuck with one topping, just pepperoni and it was pretty good. I found that the Washington Post gave it a mention in today’s food section which added to the buzz but I was surprised that the pie was as good as it was. The dough was thin and crunchy with just enough moisture in it to give it a nice crunch with just enough chewiness. The tomato sauce was good with small chunks of tomato spread out near the crust that kept the crust from getting dry. I will go here again to try out some of the other combinations of toppings. Just look at the photo of the pie that I put up, it’s pretty irresistible. See you there!

I’m not sure if I can say this is the best pizza in DC but I was happy with my pizza. Upper Crust has great happy hour from 4−7pm on weekdays. All small specialty pizza for $ 10 and ½ off Large cheese pizza(=$ 7.50). Also beer/wine specials. We tried ‘Potata rossa’ pizza. White pizza with potato, caramelized onion and fontina cheese. It had mild potato flavor blended well with sweetness of caramelized onion and plenty of cheese. Small pizza was 14″ so it was plenty for 2 – 3 people. I was with my darling friend, Lia and we couldn’t finish the whole pizza so I had to pack a few slices. The staffs there were so nice and friendly. If I’m in the neighborhood, I would definitely stop by again to try other pizza.

walking around the block with a coworker trying to decide where to go to eat for lunch… look up and we see a little 8.5×11 piece of paper with an image of Biggie Smalls outside the front of a lil restaurant… i tilt my head to the side — «wth, foreal?» coworker tilts her head to the other side — «foreal.» their slice of the day jingle = «Biggie Biggie Biggie, can’t you see, sometimes the slice of the day just hypnotizes me!» …so cheesy but it works. it worked so well, in fact, that it brought my coworker and i in to try it out… we barge in, expecting to hear Tupac on the radio and no… it’s just a regular lunch spot. freshly baked thin crust pizza. not crispy & greazy like new york style pizza. it’s all like, hella fresh n delicious n all that healthy stuff… cognitive dissonance!.. i ordered the combo anyway… which is a slice of the day(vegetarian), a salad of your choice, and a piece of bread… they have a bunch of other stuff: but… our food looked NOTHING like those pics =| the salad is borderline acceptable. i didn’t eat half of it because several lettuce pieces had dried up edges. the actual pizza was aight. flimsy, chewy. the piece of bread on the side was even chewier. I’ll givem a few weeks to get on their feet. looking forward to checking out their happy hour! half off pizzas n beer~
