Basta O’Neill’s

I have heard wonderful things about this restaurant, so I was excited to try it. First, the wine menu was all crossed out. They had a very small selection available. I asked to do a wine flight, which was advertised and was told by the server that they do not do wine flights. Even though the wine menu stated they did. I settled for a Silver Ridge Cabernet, which was very good. I had the Fettuccini Alfredo for dinner as my entrée. The sauce was so thick it was like paste. Actually hard to swallow, and so salty that I was chugging water. I like salty foods, so that says a lot. The atmosphere was nice and the server was pleasant. Overall, I was pretty disappointed in the food. May give it a second chance in the future, but definitely not a top choice.

We have visited this restaurant for both dining in and carry out. You must try the Chicken Carbonara, it’s always been delicious even when ordered family style for carry out!
When dining in, try the wine flight. I’ve discovered several wines there that are now favorites we stock at home.
My only complaints are that one table for two right at the entrance… always busy and often chilly, nobody wants to sit there. And they upcharge $ 2 for whole wheat pasta.

Botched reservation, slow/​spotty service, mediocre food, rude waitress, closing up the place around us starting before 7:00 pm. We won’t be back.

This is our go to place when in Washington. The food is good, the service is fine and the place is clean. I have never been disappointed in what I have ordered and always have enough to take home for lunch the next day.

Been many times – both for lunch and dinner. Food is always excellent. Nothing I’ve tried that I haven’t liked. Love the salads. Chive butter very tasty with bread. Pasta dishes all great. Haven’t had much Irish fare but my parents like it. Dinner time service has always been attentive. Lunch time service is consistently lacking. 1 lunch waitress for whole restaurant. So if they are even remotely busy at lunch you are left hanging with no refills and having to beg for your check. We just went again yesterday for lunch (Wednesday – not very busy). Waitress wasnt necessarily friendly but we were taken care of and in a timely manner. Spelling error on menu… mostaccoli/​mostaccioli. Nit picky I admit. But it bugs me every single time.

Considering we’re in Washington, IL… not bad, not bad at all! This beer had a great beer selection, craft and otherwise. The spinach and artichoke dip was amazing!!! Both my husband and I really enjoyed our meals and drinks at lunch :-)

Good friendly service and good food. Here for work and got in late looking for a good meal. We were not disappointed. And the chef came out on the floor to talk with the customers. Good place.

Always have good luck at Basta O’Neil’s, no matter what I have. Their Shepard’s Pie is the best this side of Ireland. The Italian choices are top notch, too. An enjoyable dining experience in Washington.

In addition to their regular menu of Italian and Irish options, there are usually good special menu items on tap.
Service has been very good the last few times I’ve been in.
They have a good wine selection and a jazz combo on Thursdays, plus outdoor seating in season. And their bread and butter is great.
We split a cannoli last time for dessert and it was delicious.

Irish and Italian… who knew? The thing is, it actually works! The menu has great options, with a lot of home made (NOT out of a bag) food. Live music on Thursdays (Easy Jazz).
Be forewarned, the pasta dishes are HUGE.
