I ordered a black forest cake for my boyfriend’s bday, which was delicious! The frosting was light and airy, and the cake was moist. I’m not a big fan of cherries, but my boyfriend thought it was one of the best he’s ever had! I also bought a peanut butter cup cupcake, which was to-die-for! There were peanut butter chips in the chocolate cake. I will definitely come back here!

We went in to try the tirimasu, Boston cream and Oreo, and the consistency is absolutely amazing, as usual. I am now going to make it a mission to try all the flavors, as this is truly a gem in Watertown!

Hands down the most delicious strawberry shortcake, I’ve ever tasted. The crushed almonds that border it, give it a wonderful finishing touch. This is my go to place for birthday cakes. Highly recommended!

The few times I came here, the service was pretty awful, but this last time put the icing on the cake(no pun intended). Every time the younger lady took my order, she had a very nasty attitude! After I would say what I wanted, she would always go «Ugh» and roll her eyes, like she was upset that she had to do something. This last time that I went, I placed an order and the older woman did not see that I had a beverage, but she had already swiped my card. She stated that she could void the transaction and start over to add the additional charge for the beverage, but I told her it wasn’t necessary because I had cash to pay for it, however she insisted on voiding it. After swiping the card to void it, she then went to put it through again, but it was not going through. I called my bank and they said there was no pending void and that I was charged already for the meal, so I explained that and gave her cash for the drink to compensate for the additional charge. Then the younger woman said very rudely«You still owe us, wanna bet, I just called my credit card company and they said it takes 3 days for the void to go through, so you’re going to have to pay us. Ma, get the info from her card.» The way she said it was in a very attacking manner, as if I was stealing from them. I felt very offended by it, however kept my composure. Before leaving, I gave her my card to record the information and I said«Mam, I would never not pay for my meal. Of course if it voided out, I would certainly pay for it.» Even though the inconvenience was their fault and not my own, I was never offered an apology and they stated that they would re-charge me tomorrow(!!!).

The strawberry shortcake is outstanding but customer service is lacking. Expect the worse and you won’t be disappointed.

I stopped here for a mid morning coffee and snack. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I bought a coffee and a fruit tart. Overall, my order was pretty good and the seating area was clean. It was a nice place to sit and relax after walking in the city for a little while.

The cupcakes, cakes, lemon bars, and carmelitas are wonderful! But have you tried the soups? Oh my, the soups! Portobello Mushroom and Brown Rice, Clam Chowder, Vegetable Beef, Lentil Soup, Kale Soup, and on and on. The soup is unbelievably awesome and they have something different every day! The sandwiches are great too. You can tell they are made by people who love food. I’ve been here more times than I’d like to admit and have never had an issue. I love Lilly’s!

one of my clients got these cupcakes for staff at my work so i didnt know actual names but for the most part they were easy to tell. some good some not… some cakes were dry tasting old and gross. others were okay but the frosting was old/gross. others were good(cake and frosting). i liked this one with a piece of cake cut out and custard put in with some chocolate drop on top. mmmmm good variety but quality a bit spotty…

As another person put it, we are lucky to have this business in our back yard here in Watertown. I took my son here and he had the strawberry shortcake that was seriously good. It is a cute small French style bakery with tons of tasteful items. The cupcakes Are a small delightful sampling of what this store has to offer so you can get a taste. When you need a bigger cake then you know what your options are.

Ordered a BLT and Pina Colada cupcake. The BLT is like a double decker of yumminess. I am always on the quest for the most awesome cupcake when I visit somewhere and the Piña Colada cupcake was awesome. Staff are friendly and it’s a nice place to sit and eat as well.

My mom and I went in to use a groupon that had expired a couple of months ago but still had the original value on it of $ 12 that I could purchase food with. This was my second time there. The first time I went on a regular Monday(NOT a holiday) to use the groupon and they were closed for some unknown reason. I told the man at the counter and instead of being understanding about the inconvenience he was extremely rude. He said«You had a year to use this!» My mother and I were extremely shocked at his behavior and were horrified at the terrible customer service. When we looked in the case my mother noticed a fly trying to eat the red velvet cake. We were horrified again and didn’t know if we should leave or not. However, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought we would try their cakes anyways. We did not get the red velvet. We got a carrot cake slice, Boston crème cupcake, peanut butter cupcake and chocolate mousse cake slice. In the process the man, who I believe was the owner, huffed and puffed the whole time we asked him for service, such as to put the cakes in two separates boxes because two were for me and two were for my mom. The chocolate mousse cake tasted like cardboard. It was so dry that I couldn’t even finish it. It was stale and old. I did not try the carrot cake or the Boston crème cupcake but my parents said they were yummy. I haven’t tried the peanut butter cupcake yet but I do not have high expectations.

I have a friend who is on a quest for the best Red Velvet cupcake, so naturally I asked her where to go. Lo and behold, she tells me Lilly’s — right in my «backyard» — is the best so far. Well, Frannie Z. has unfortunately addicted me to CBE in Haverhill, so now I need to find a fix close by and we went here on Thursday afternoon. We split several mini cupcakes(mini cupcakes, a good sign). We had the Nana(a vanilla frosting filled), the red velvet, the peanut butter cup and(just to shake things up) a macadamia nut truffle. Out of the three cupcakes, I liked the red velvet the best. I have found most places have cupcakes that are dry and the minis, even more so, have this problem. Not here — all the cupcakes were moist and delicious. The frostings worked well too. The item I really loved was the truffle. It was almost tasted like an old-fashioned rum ball sans the rum, of course. This new discovery is not good for my waistline. The live geese begging for food outside the door is a nice touch :)

Oh me oh my. Barbara & I shared a sampling of 4 mini cupcakes and were quite surprised. Oftentimes, mini’s don’t pass muster because they end up far less moist than their larger brethren. Not the case at Lilly’s! We split 3 mini’s(red velvet, nana, peanut butter) and a macadamia truffle. The peanut butter was my fave followed by the nana, the macadamia nut and the red velvet. This is not to say the red velvet wasn’t yummy, I just like the others more. The macadamia nut truffle was very good but it had a cherry-ish flavor underlying the chocolate, which was distracting. Lilly’s will be a place I’m gonna wanna visit again(and again).

As usual I was excited to try out a new cupcake place in the burbs of boston. I was unfortunately, pretty disappointed in the cupcakes here. I only tried the mini cupcakes, I am not sure if I had bought the standard size ones I would have had a different opinion. They were just okay, not that they were bad or anything, just nothing to write home about(or give five stars for that matter). The cakes were okay not dry but, not that moist and the frostings were just eh, not particularly flavorful. Of all the ones I tried my favorites were the boston cream pie and caramel cupcake. I do want to try this place out again and get the full size cupcakes to see if I enjoy those more.

My girlfriends this year got me this amazing cake from Lilly’s. It was their signature Strawberry shortcake that blew my mind! Cake — light and fluffy. Cream — made fresh and light(not that gross sugared icing stuff) and strawberries(fresh like they were just picked)! Every cake that I get from now on will be compared to this place. I can’t wait to celebrate more birthdays! I will get my wedding cake here!

A boxful of Lilly’s cupcakes was an impressive addition to our dessert table. The cupcakes were more like muffins in size, and plenty to share. Several had fillings hiding inside such as the Oreo cupcake and the Boston Cream, while the red velvet was crowned with a delicious cream cheese frosting. Prices for their cupcakes were a good value in comparison to those places that sell their individual treats at $ 4.50 or more at a pop. I remember this place from back when they were located on Galen Street many moons ago. Back then I had ordered and enjoyed their strawberry shortcake and was impressed. And now it has popped up in a new location in Watertown. Perhaps I should try another of their cakes sometime… *** 3⁄2011 **** Okay, I’m going with their strawberry shortcake for my birthday cake. I placed the order on a Thursday for 11am pick up the following week … 6″ cake, with words on it. They took down my name and number. Let’s see how it goes. Cake consumption — The cake was ready for pick up. It was tall with a crown of excess whipped cream, and garnished with sliced almonds on the side and half chocolate dipped strawberries on top. It was a nice, light cake, but not so good that I will crave it for my next birthday. More strawberries inside would have been nice.

I’m always looking for a good bakery — you never know when you may need a cupcake(…or a 12″ multilayer cake). My premier experience with Lilly’s was at an office party. My initial response to «would you like a piece of cake?» was, «Are you kidding? I don’t want a piece of your dry-and-stale-cake-for-the-sake-of-cake cake!» But I was handed a piece nonetheless… and it was love at first bite! Their strawberry shortcake cake is incredibly fluffy and moist. The filling is airy and is not overly sugary. The frosting is so addictive that I(not generally a frosting-lover) actually scraped up ever last molecule of my slice off of the serving utensil. I have since ordered birthday and mother’s day cakes from Lilly’s and am pleased to say that I am never disappointed in the service or in the quality of the product. *An interesting array of cake, filling, and frosting flavors(including: Banana Split, Italian Rum, Mango/Strawberry Mousse, Peaches N’ Cream, Mocha Almond… and more). *Pricing is appropriate(6″ 17 $ all the way to 14″ 62 $) — AMAZING quality(and the cakes are like…6 to 8″ height). *Also for sale: HUGE cupcakes(…yum — German Chocolate with Caramel, please) for only 2.50 $, small cookies and pastry, Tisamisu, fruit tarts, and cheesecakes. *Want lunch? Specialty sandwiches are only 7 $ and salads are 5 $. They cater for lunch(and breakfast… yes!). Make sure you call in advance and place your order for cakes!!! They’ll be ready on time, but give them a couple of days notice. *Open Mon-Sat 6:30a-5:00p(totally worth having to leave work early in order to make pick-up time). *Really nice staff!!! I always end up sticking around and chit-chatting for a bit.
