This place has a new name and new owners. Good thing because my wife and I got food poisoning from the old buffet restaurant. We had a «lost weekend» because of it and our 12 year old son had to nurse us all weekend. The place used to be just filthy and as mentioned in another review, the staff sorted and cleaned veggies in the dining room. No wonder we got sick! Based on a recommendation from a co-worker and fellow Wauconda resident, we decided that since it was re-invented and under new ownership, we would give it a try. The business is now called Noodle House and is an eclectic mix of several styles of Asian food. While it is no longer the cheap, crappy buffet that many were used to, the food is now amazing, fresh and cooked to order. They even make their own hot mustard sauce from scratch and it is the best I have ever had. They completely redid the décor inside too and it is much more comfortable than I remember it being. My son and I sat down and reviewed the menu which is not large but offers enough of a selection to satisfy anyone craving delicious Chinese, Japanese or Thai food. We decided on the egg rolls, the beef ho fun noodles and the Mongolian beef. All of the items were hot, fresh and absolutely some of the best food we have had. The waitress/owner Sherry was so nice and spent time with us explaining the dishes and how they are prepared and was very knowledgeable about the food. We do not have a lot of choices when it comes to Chinese food in Wauconda. There is 1 restaurant by the Jewel that is ok but you can tell the caliber of the food here is so much higher. The freshness really comes out in the dishes. If you are looking for some great Asian cuisine, then you can’t go wrong with Noodle House! Sherry is the best and we are so happy to have yet another option of incredible food in Wauconda!

So this place closed for a while and re-opened as the Noodle House. Before they had a cheap and greasy buffet for about $ 6.95. Not the greatest food but for a buffet, it was typical I suppose and a very cost effective way to sow down a bunch of noodle/meat buckets that looked different but mostly tasted the same. Well the buffet is now gone and you order off the menu instead. Which is limited but they do have some noodle dishes. Also saw spaghetti bolognese and mac a cheese on the menu. I had some steamed dumplings and some kind of wide noodles with beef. Both were OK. But now it cost twice as much versus the quick and cheap buffet.

When I walked into Golden House Buffet Inc. I immediately noticed why they called it the«golden house». I strolled in casually as to not gain too much attention; too my chagrin, I was spotted. She chanted, «oak table for three!» which was confusing because I was alone and the table was made of a fine plastic material. I grabbed a plate and began to peruse the copious smörgåsbord of orgasmic delights. I sampled the beef lo mein. I immediately realized why they called it beef lo mein. Never since my time in the orient have I experienced such temporal sensations. I was kindly escorted shamefully back to my plexiglas table after eating out of the lo mein serving dish for 20 minutes.

Went to pick up food for the first time about one month ago & I do not understand why it has great ratings. Food was nothing to write about. I noticed the Buffett there but, again, there was nothing special. What really grossed me out is they had baskets of vegetables, & the staff was sorting the veggies in the dining area. I will not go back!!!

This place was so much better before the redecorating and new owners. It was my favorite Chinese Buffett. You definitely wouldn’t think of the new Colors as a typical Chinese restaurant. The food is still pretty good but we couldn’t get past the stickiness, it was unappetizing to say the least. From the floors, to the tables and even the Buffett. It was as if someone soaked the place in soda and tried to clean the place with the same rag. It’s just nasty, sticky. Walking in, I said this would be their last chance to keep or lose us as customers. I’m sad to say I won’t be coming back to what was my favorite Chinese Buffett. I miss the previous owner. She was a tiny title young Chinese woman but she and her staff had it together. I’m gonna miss this place.,

Unassuming little place. Amazing food. Freshest mushrooms. Not a bad or old dish in the house. Oodles of options. Tasty, varied sauces. Teriyaki chicken will linger in my memory. Nice owners. These folks can cook. Best buffet in the burbs.
