If their food wasn’t so cheap & decent tasting, I would rate this place as a 1 star. Where do I even begin?! I do want to state, I understand we got the last table & it was extremely busy. Pretty common sense when you eat out on a Sat. night. From what I could tell there was only ONE waitress for the whole place! She seriously ran around like a chicken with her head cut off. It was as if we were invisible to the bar staff & waitress, as they passed by 20 times. We never received a menu the whole night(I love ordering dessert with my pizza, but never got a chance since I never saw what they had) It took a total of 12 mins for anyone to even to say«we’ll be right with you.» 5 more mins passed. Someone actually came to our table to help us! Since we didn’t have a menu & didn’t want to wait another 20 mins, we ordered the same pizza as the table next to us had(I think it was sausage) & some bread sticks. I have no problem waiting for my pizza. Good pizza takes forever on a busy night.(The other table next to us got they’re pizza within 10mins of sitting down. So I think you can order in ahead of time). Which is why we ordered bread sticks! Sadly I never got to try the breadsticks. They never came out. Later we found out why, instead of bread sticks a salad was on the order. I understand miss communications & mistakes, but we NEVERGOT A SALADEITHER! Finally, the pizza came out. I asked for a water & my husband a refile. My thirst was never quenched & his poor soda was empty. This part was our bad, after we ordered, we overheard another table order extra crispy. I now know why. The pizza was so soggy and like extra, extra greesy. I’m a girl who likes my greesy pizza, but not puddles of it. I’m embarrassed to say, I actually blotted the pizza. I would never eat here again. To many better pizza places with better customer service. My husband said he would totally eat here again, but it be pick up only.

Quonset has been my favorite pizza place since I was old enough to know what pizza is. The ownership has changed hands over the years but the quality remains. The italian sausage is made in house, and it’s reflected in the taste. I’ll either get it with mushrooms and onions on my pizza, or as a sandwich(It’s called the bomber). Great for dine in and carry out. Would have been five stars, but they have a tendency to rush pizzas going out for delivery — I always have to order them well done in that case.

Very very disappointed. I have be frequenting this place for the last 40 years. First with my parents and now with my children. The last four times I have visited there has been something wrong every single time. I asked for the pizzas well done there never well done. I do not like my pizza to be soggy or stick to the cardboard. I have also received twice wrong toppings. Also it seems as if they only have one girl working now on a Saturday or Friday night. I understand its a pizza place you’re getting Pizza and beers but one waitress for 30 tables is not enough. As much as I enjoy Quonset Pizza I I’m afraid Bill’s pub maybe my number one from now on. No matter how good the pizza tastes if you don’t get what you order it’s not worth the money you pay.

The first pizza I ever had as a boy was Quonset. I was in town and thought I’d visit. I ended up coming here and eating in twice during the week. Both times, service was excellent. Everyone was nice and courteous. Both times, I ordered pizza with pepperoni and sausage, and the pizza was delicious. I even bought a hoodie, some t-shirts, and a cap here to take home. I will always eat here when I visit Waukegan. Their pizza is still very tasty and unique. The place is low-key and understated, just the way I prefer.

My family has eaten at Quonset since my parents were in high school, I am grown with children in high school so needless to say it’s been a few years. While living in Illinois we lived about 40 minutes one way from Quonset so it was a drive just to get there, but knew it would be worth it. It has been my mothers favorite for years and always for her birthday! I myself have moved to Arizona and heard the family was going to eat there today so I tried to call and pay for there meal, a gift card, gift certificate, anything and the lady was less than helpful. Came back from the hold with a «talked to the owner and we don’t do that. « How on Christmas Eve, or any other day can you have a policy that way. If It’s about a stolen card policy crap… Really am I gonna use it for pizza, I think not. Terrible policy, very sad to think after all the years eating bombers and sausage pizza I refuse to ever eat there again. Can’t wait to tell mom the story, Shame on you Quonset!

We have loved Quonset Pizza for 60 years. We walked in tonight and sat at the bar to place an order to go. After fifteen minutes, we finally asked if we could get a couple of beers. No one had asked us what we wanted or even acknowledged our presence. Two bartenders(and I use that term loosely) had walked past us several times. When my husband asked if we could order beers, a young punk with blonde hair and glasses told us that he had a table that came in before us and couldn’t wait on us. He was SO rude! We are very disappointed that we could not get the type of service we have always been accustomed to. We have known the Maretti’s for 60 years and my father managed the Quonset in the 60s. So sad! I have to press one star to give a rating but would leave zero if possible.

Waukegan locals seem to favor a crispy thin crust, and a well done pie. They are awesome in that category. However, the pizza came across a bit more greasy and salty than I desired. I also tried the BBQ and the Meatball sub. They were more like bombers, and were a bit expensive compared to the size of the sandwich. In my opinion there are definitely some better values in the lake county area.

If you’re stopping in Waukegan or any town around Lake County it would be a mistake to pass up this pizza. This is in my honest opinion the best pizza in the world. I’ve been all through the states and never had a better pie. People say they’ve changed but I have to disagree. I always ask for my pizza extra crispy on the bottom ! Pricey but worth it ! I don’t eat any other pizza ;p

Went here with my Mom while home for the holidays. She grew up in Waukegan and my Grandpa used to take her here after church every Sunday. Apparently my Grandma loved the bomber sandwich. I can’t say enough great things about this place! The ambiance is 50’s diner meets Chicago pizza place, and I wouldn’t change a thing. It was like going back in time and experiencing a slice of my Mom’s childhood. A memory I will never forget. But the food though! I had the bomber combo(Italian sausage on a roll with cheese and red sauce plus Italian beef on top) — and it was incredible. One of the best sandwiches I’ve had anywhere. Washed it down with a cold beer, just like my Grandpa used to do :-)

Not a friendly experience whatsoever. The pizza was similar to Mike’s in quality, but very overpriced. The place really really requires work for it to be «revived» to what it could have been. Not worth your money.

After years of eating here, the staff & what he said was the manager are racist & disrespectful. The manager called my wife«colored» and said he used this term to be «polite». What would he have said if he was not trying to be polite? One of the employees was seen leaving the bathroom without washing her hands, and when confronted about it she simply states, there is hand sanitizer in the back. Terrible experience to have after eating here as long as I can remember.

I love this pizza. I grew up in the area, moved away for about 20 years. Moved back recently and find the pizza just as I remembered. I always go for a cheese and sausage pizza, simple but delicious. The restaurant is nothing special, just a neighborhood pizza parlor. I’ve brought friends here and they love it too. Nice that some things never change.

Quonset pizza still tastes the same to me as it did 20 years ago. This is the pizza I grew up eating, so I might be a little biased, although my husband, who did not grow up in Waukegan, also agrees that it’s a great pizza. My family likes to get everything on our pizza, but lately we’ve also getting just sausage and mushroom, which is also good. It’s a little on the salty side, and it definitely has this«Quonset» taste that can only come from years and years of making pizzas in those ovens. I’ve only dined in here twice in my life, and both experiences were disappointing. Carryout is the only way to go.

Most of us young ‘uns won’t recognize what the word«quonset’ means, but if you must know, quonsets are those galvanized metal structures that were built in the US during WW2 as inexpensive buildings that were easy to ship & set-up — they were used by the military for offices, storage, bathrooms, barracks, garages, mess halls, etc… and surplus ones were sold off So if you’re looking for a pre-fab, silvery semi-circle-ish building, you won’t find it at The Quonset Hut. It’s a 1970s brown brick building with the funky green angular roof located right at the intersection of Grand and McAree. Now the address is officially on Grand, but if you want to pull up your car to the proper front entrance — you MUST pull in through McAree. And given how busy that intersection is, the safest and easiest way is to come south-bound on McAree and make a right-hand turn into the restaurant’s parking lot. The best part of this place is the pizza. It’s thin-crust, not super soggy with sauce, and the toppings are served generously. While my taste buds prefer salty over sweet, I will say that the pizza is a bit on the salty side and the crust is nice but could have been cooked just a minute or two longer for a browner/crispier crust. I came here on a whim as I was in the area running errands and have long wanted to try this place. It didn’t disappoint and the service, while semi-absent upon arrival(seems like they’re short-staffed and looking to hire), was friendly. For a large pizza with 2 toppings, it’s just $ 17 and will serve easily 4 – 5 hungry adults. Try the sausage — it is DEElish. No joke. I love the fact that this place doesn’t aim to overwhelm you with a ridiculously expansive menu — they know their sweet spot and focus on what makes them special. Waukegan /Quonset Hut is not a place that i’d go to dine-out, so my review isn’t going to be heavily based on the table service /ambience /furniture of the bar area(which is one side of the place and away from the pick-up area). For take-out, and the food alone, absolutely, it’s worth of the 4 stars, I’m giving it. If you can look past the dark interior, dated décor and the pot-hole filled streets around the building, do give this place a try. It’s a mom-and-pop small business that aims to deliver fresh food at a highly reasonable price. I’ll definitely be back whenever I’m in the area again.

Quonset USED to be the best pizza on the planet, unfortunately I can tell a lot has changed. I ordered a pizza a hour before the super bowl and drove a few towns over for nostalgia. Not to sound over critical but the pizza was soooo bad, one glance and I could tell it looked awful. My boyfriend and I got sick mid way thru and I called Quonset to ask why the pizza changed so much(it looked red on top like it was missing cheese and the cheese on it was dry and really really salty) as in my earlier years, my palette memorized the(old) wonderful flavor! I realized after having a very sick stomach along with my boyfriend(we never get sick but were both mysteriously sick now and threw away half of the pizza), reflecting on this I realized I picked up the pizza a hour before the superbowl… there was only one or two cars in the entire two parking lots(probably employee cars). PERHAPS they lack turnover and gave us old food because we were ill for days. Makes me sad to write such a review as I used to tell everyone it was the best in the world, and it really USEDTOBE!
