I’ve been to this restaurant for two sit-ins as well as a cpl take outs. When you sit in they serve you larger portion verses when you get a take out order. I like the Cameron(shrimp) & the steak tacos. I went here one time with a group and everyone enjoyed their meals!

The food tasted excellent. Good flavor and fresh ingredients. Those were the pros, here are the cons: My wife found about 8 bones, some an inch long, in her barbacoa on her tostada. Another con was the fact that I only had two meals and two cheese quesadilla’s and it cost $ 30. I used to live in San Diego and $ 30 would buy me enough food for a family of 6. Overall, food tasted good. Will I go back, yeah, sure. But it will not be my first choice for Mexican food in this area.

When I was living in the area, I was searching for authentic Mexican restaurants like this. Turns out there are quite a few but I stuck to this place as my go to for tacos. Their tortillas are home made which makes for the best kind of tacos. Their burritos are okay, couldn’t really say what I didn’t like about it but just I’ve had better. If you’re new to the area and looking for REAL Mexican food, then you’ve found it. The tacos will definitely not disappoint! Not sure if owned by the same people but there’s a Mexican bakery right next door that has delicious pastries for a very cheap price. Great choice for dessert!

If I’m in Waukegan on a Saturday or Sunday you know I have to come eat breakfast at Tolucas! Seriously their barbacoa is so delicious and fresh! I ask for my barbacoa tacos on a fresh home made tortilla! :D If you’re hungover there’s nothing better than the Menudo served with a side of homemade Tortillas of course! Menudo isn’t for everyone so if you just want to get a steak taco or something don’t worry, everything on the menu is super tasty and authentic!

Love the food here. The enchiladas verdes, tacos de asada, menudo, bistec ala mexicana, sopes, ceviche, and the micheladas are my favorites. Oh and the guacamole and salsas. Highly recommend this place! Just tried the fish tacos and OMG they are the best. I’ve been trying to try something different every time I come and haven’t been disappointed.

Even though you need to hide ya kids, hide ya wife when you come to this neighborhood in the evening, it’s definitely worth a visit before dark. The ceviche is very good, and the meat entrees hit the spot.

Restaurant was clean, service great, food delicious and prices reasonable. Having moved from San Diego, we were looking for our new taco place and we’ve found it. Ordered 10 different tacos to narrow down a favorite and they were all delicious.

I was in the North Chicago area and craving for some tacos. A quick Unilocal search brought up Taqueria Toluca so I dragged the boyfriend along to check it out. We’re not very familiar with the Waukegan area and had no idea what to expect when we pulled up. The place was empty but we sat down and ordered an assortment of tacos, ceviche tostadas and horchata. Everything was authentic and delicious. The ceviche was refreshing and spicy at the same time. They give you a lot of seafood for the price($ 10 for 2 huge tostadas). The tacos we ordered were all surprisingly delicious too: al pastor, lamb barbacoa, asada, pollo, and fish. Even the horchata was good and you could tell it wasn’t the fake powdered kind. We ended up spending way too much for lunch but we were given a lot of food: 2 ceviche tostadas, 8 tacos, 3 orders of horchata. Now that I’ve discovered Taqueria Toluca, I can honestly say it’s my favorite spot for tacos in the ‘burbs.

I always feel like I’m in a little taqueria in Mexico when I come here. The food is excellent, the service is excellent and the prices are excellent. Today I saw the movie Hostage in Spanish. Best lunch all week!

Very good food and not your standard Taco Dishes. Liked the Chicken in Mole Sauce and also the whole Catfish. Prices are reasonable and«outstanding, friendly» service! Now this is not your romantic getaway place but it is very nice and very busy(Saturday 7:00PM) a fairly large place and when I looked around most tables were occupied by Mexicans with their family, I liked that. Around 8:00PM a singer walked around and was serenading to recorded background music. Not bad, it was fun! We will absolutely go back.

Calling all GRINgo’s – MILITARY, and Civilians, I like a good frickin TACO at times and I had 4 good ones here. They have so many choices of Tacos and it was ONE Dollar and 75 cents for one taco that was REAL, real meat real corn tortilla and cilantro and onion with lime. BETTER then paying for Taco Bell– please. Fake Tacos for more money or Real tacos for less money… I take Real Taco’s. SO I had El Pastor– Cecina, Arrerecha, and Asada. Delicious. I had a partner in this Taco adventure all together we had 7 tacos, order of guacamole and whatever that chaka white milk water thing is and came to 14.88 $. I am pretty picky about space and don’t like being uncomfortable, but it was not to bad, It is child friendly as far as accommodations and space. My son is Special needs, autistic and ALLERGIC to everything, I would not mind bringing him into this place as it was pretty clean and I would have no fear of him getting a crumb and dying because it is pretty clean. The restaurant is hard to notice on this street, it is small and quaint but enough room for the family to come, and you can see the cooks through windows cooking everything. So if your super paranoid– supervision can take place on the diners end. I am eager to try the other food it all looks so GOOD! Tortas and the sea food dishes. Its great for the budgeted people as it is well priced, like I said much better then the prices at Taco bell but this place has REAL ingredients. The owner is very sweet and nice, my waitress was a little… spacey… but whatever. Definitely try this place if your dying for a taco! VERYCASUAL, come n pajamas if you wish. Oh yes Try some CAKE the cakes look so beautiful and fluffy and awesome.

One word: YUCK! This place was dirty. The floors, tables, booths, menus, etc. The salsas were decent but the chips were store bought and salty. We ordered the chicken enchiladas with green sauce and steak tacos. All 3 of us were very sick the next day. Beware! Oh and our server was the worst ever. It took over 20 minutes for our order to be placed. When we were done I asked for the check twice… he was sitting at a table near the kitchen eating. We were very polite and I don’t like tipping less than 20%. However this one time I tipped about 12% or so.

The tacos al pastor were as good as in Chiuahaha. The bistec a la tampiquena was good and made me miss spending time in Mexico.

Being from CA, almost the first immediate thing we did upon arrival to Great Lakes was to look for a good Mexican restaurant. We drove around 10th street and decided to check out toluca’s. I had Al Pastor torta. It was AAAA-mazzing! They have a large menu to chose from. The staff is very friendly. They also offered complimentary chips and salsa. I also want to point out that their green salsa is AAAA-mazzing as well! Their staff is mostly spanish speaking but, they do understand English. Mind you, it is a mexican restaurant. hehe Prices are very very reasonable. My torta was $ 4.75. They even have horchata.

The food was amazing. They have a pretty extensive selection of seafood. The service, excellent. Our lunch came with soup and desert. I had the steak tacos and my lunch date had the seafood soup which came in a huge margarita bowl with oysters on the side. I like different flavors so that was perfect. I added avocado and a few other things to my tacos for which there was so extra charge. The staff was very nice and the prices very reasonable. The food was very authentic. I would definitely go back.

I have been to the one on 10th street and it is great for authentic Mexican food. Be warned that you will need to know some Spanish as the menu is written as such and the help only speaks broken English. Large diverse menu such as tacos, tortas, sopas, etc and in many meats such as beef, lingua, al pastor, etc. They even have some ceviche like octopus. Prices are very cheap and some individual item are only a buck or two. My favorite Mexican restaurant in Waukegan which is saying something in a city full of Mexican restaurants.

I’ve only been to Toluca #2 on Washington(near Butrick), and that’s the Taqueria I’m recommending to all you gringos who want authentic Mexican food(but don’t know where to go). Waukegan has dozens of taquerias, and we tried many of them when we lived there, but we kept coming back to Toluca #2(same location as Ofelia’s). Their prices are dirt cheap compared to what we face now in Chicago, the service is efficient(if not friendly), and the food tastes a lot better. There are pages and pages of options: tacos, gorditas, tortas, huaraches(think mexican pizza), enchiladas, seafood(yet no fish tacos?), giant grilled meat platters and tostadas(my personal favorite). You can try something new, even exotic, on your tacos(lengua anyone?) but stay away form the«sesos»(if they still have it on the menu). We’re adventurous, but we draw the line at brains.

This place is my family’s newest Christmas tradition: a Mexican Christmas. We aren’t Mexican, but my stepmother doesn’t like to cook on Xmas so we opted to try Toluca. For months my father has raved about their huevos rancheros, which I enjoyed very much on a previous visit. But the Xmas dinner was spectacular. The foundation of their delicious meals are homemade, handmade corn tortillas that come out fresh, warm and almost sweet. We started off with some guacamole that I was in danger of spoiling my appetite with, it was so good. I ordered shrimp fajitas, though I couldn’t keep my hands off of another person’s tortilla soup, which was rich with fresh chicken flavor, crunchy tortilla strips, cheese and soft veggies. My dish was just as good – seasoned perfectly and grilled to perfection, the shrimp were tender and succulent, the bell peppers sweet and savory. Wrapped up in one of those toritillas, along with some fresh salsa, made for a heavenly fajita. Waukegan is really off the beaten path for most Chicagoans, but the place is always packed with locals-a good a sign as any that this is the place to eat.
