This place was definitely an interesting find. I am here in the area on extended business and have pretty much eaten everywhere in the immediate area, and then I found this café on Unilocal! They have a pretty cool rustic atmosphere, with old stone walls and old tools and things on the walls. We went there for lunch and had a good experience. Enjoyed the said atmosphere, the food was pretty quick to come out, the quality of food was good, and the staff were nice. The prices were a tad higher than expected for the quality, but it was fine. So, a pretty unique place, and I would definitely check this hidden gem out for lunch again.

1) Get a real driveway. I almost tore the exhaust off my car. 2) Skimpy portions for high prices. It’s the Waukesha way. 3) With Mama Ds, Rochester, Roots, etc, how will this place survive? 4) Waitress was VERY explicit that our potato chips were no longer homemade. Great. Next time, I’ll bring my own bag of Lays. 5) Wait. There won’t be a next time. I could patronize one of the many other sandwichy lunch places.

Really, really a fan, but… went on a Wednesday and was seated by someone who appeared to be affiliated with the shop across the yard; as a result both servers ignored us for close to 15 minutes; finally had to speak up when one of the servers sat a table and proceeded to take their order almost immediately. She was quite apologetic and we did then receive lovely service to go with our delicious lunches. Went back that Saturday and arrived about 2:00. Everything was so pleasant and delicious until our server asked at 2:30 if I would like coffee with my dessert since they were getting ready to dump it. Yeesh! I don’t need a house to fall on my head to know my presence was no longer wanted. I apologized for our lateness, left a better than 25% gratuity, departed feeling a bit humiliated after the light spanking…

Mainly a fan due to the quaint, folksy folk ambience of this old house. Not many tables and very few waitresses/waiters. I came with a group of 5. Most of us ordered the American Farm sandwich which consists of sliced turkey mixed with a cranberry mayo served on a whole cranberry infused bread. I believe they serve wine and possibly beer, but they’re mainly known for serving their soft drinks in a mason jar mug. We got there at 11:30 since we knew it can be tough to get a seat. They would certainly make more money if they had some throughput. Our food didn’t arrive until 12:30. Unfortunately one of our colleagues had to leave at 12:15 for a meeting. All in all, the service is really slow. Even if there was only 1 person making sandwiches, they really need to step is up a notch. I know I could have made those sandwiches in less than 10 minutes. There was really nothing spectacular about the food and I can’t say it was worth the wait. At least I can say I tried it.

I still love the food here, but I do have to say that the sevice has fallen way off. Both servers here always seem rattled? and just on the verge of being too busy altogether. Takes a long time to have them take your order and an insanely long time to have them collect your plates and give you the check… and then u have to wait for someone to pick up your check so you can pay. Food comes out fairly slow too… not sure if that is kitchen or server related. This is an hour from sit down to check — every time… Other con… it is a VERY noisy place. don’t expect to here any of your party’s conversation … sound bounces off the walls here with only a few people in it… this time there was club music constantly subwoofing too. ugh. just no music please!

Great food and ambiance but the service is very slow! I will definitely come back but only on a weekend or when I have lots of time to sit around. I got the American Farm sandwich and it was delicious, loved the bread.

Wow what a great little place. Had the Farm American Sandwich. «Wow» The turkey is fresh, the cranberry oat bread tasted just out of the oven. At first I thought there should have been more turkey on the sandwich, but after eating the house salad it was paired with, it was just the right amount. The atmosphere is quaint and perfect for a small lunch meeting, or just out with friends. Look for signs that says Café. I was a little confused at first as to what building and door to use. Go and Enjoy.

Everything is really nice here: nice beer selection, shade filled patios, old stone building. The servers seem like they get slammed and a little flustered maybe, but everyone is always super nice and polite. All the food is really good, but THEBREADISAMAZING.

NOTVEGFRIENDLY Went here for a business meeting. So this was not my choice, but im generally open. As a non consumer of animal products, this place was not for me. The ONLY thing i could eat was a plain salad. There is not a single other item that was dairy and egg and animal product free. To top off this terrible dining experience the waitress commenting she was surprised of my dietary restrictions because i appear«meaty». As someone who was picked on as a younger child for weight this was over the line and killed ALL goodwill i had for this place. I will NEVEREVER return.

One of my favorite places to eat. I always recommend it to others and they are never disappointed! Food is great every time and the fun part is the specials. They’re always making something new and delicious. Highly recommended!

Met a colleague here for lunch today. I have driven by this place countless times over the years and didn’t even notice it was there. What a special place! Seriously! Fascinating historical building, friendly service, and ridiculously good food. I had the soup and super delicious bread. The soup was hot, flavorful and the perfect entrée on such a cold day. The bread was obviously made today and was just delicious. My coffee came with an adorable little pitcher of cream. I’ll definitely be back. Can’t wait to see what it looks like over summer.

Big olé Unilocal sticker in the window of their front door so… I don’t mind if I do! No «recent» reviews on Jacks Café…something has changed! The owner has made some obvious changes to the way he wants to do business, different hours and new policies which is fine, 100% his call. Our last visit to Jack’s was a very different experience from«the way things used to be» at Jack’s Café. We have visited several times since the staff(and other things) have changed, second and third chances. We used to come here for a quality«quick» lunch, Julie and staff always took great care of us, always working a packed house, her and one or two additional servers did a great job of getting us in and out. We always ordered whatever soups are the special, Killer Bread and salads. Our office is literally right around the corner, so it is very convenient for us to frequent Jacks. By no means do we expect«fast food» turn around times but when you offer soup specials and salads(and cater to the lunch crowd) there is NO reason to wait 30 + minutes for quick turn lunch items!!! We arrived at 11:50, we were seated(no more seat yourself at the bar if you wish) and had our beverages by 11:58(the water does taste swampy as previous Unilocalers have stated, Waukesha water? Extra radium in mine please!). We know the menu well so we ordered when we received our beverages(Soup/Killer Bread Combo, and a Tuna Salad) alright, so far so good. A few minutes went by and our server strolled by letting us know«all food will be received in the order the tickets are submitted» Oooooooooooooo Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk… got it. No more quick turn lunch service here! We contemplated leaving after seeing almost every table occupied but very few tables with food on them. We decided to stay and placed our bets on food arrival time, I said 12:20 and my buddy said«no way» 12:30…our food arrived at 12:35. Food quality was excellent as always, the Potato/Leek Soup was good although now served in a smaller, fancier bowl with a little handle on it(I think the handle is there so you can pick up the bowl and conk yourself in the head with the bowl to bring yourself back into reality that there is no way you were going to get in and out of here in under an hour on your lunch break). Killer Bread portion was smaller too but quality was still there, very tasty. My buddy said his salad was great, just disappointed it took 30+ min. to make a tuna salad, ladle some soup into a bowl, and fire a piece of bread under a broiler. When we were issued our bill, our server was surprised that we had our debit cards in hand, ready to pay(12:47 at this point), another lady approached the bar with cash in hand, they were ready to get out of there too, in house for an hour. Nobody that dines here is going to balk at the food cost, now more than ever people are willing to pay for a good meal as long as the experience is there as well. «Jack» up your sandwiches by a buck each and get more help, the corporate crowd and silver hair ladies lunches dining on their hubbies dime are not going to bat an eye! I’m sorry, but for us on a weekday lunch outing the wait was just way too long. We all understand the«slow food» movement but this was a little ridiculous. If Jack’s new business plan is being properly executed and the results are what you see reported above we won’t be back, and wish them the best! If you have the time«drop in for a sandwich as long as you have an hour or so» their food is very good!

This is a favorite lunch stop. It’s simple… mostly sandwiches and soup. Love the killer bread. Great ambiance. Recommended if you are in the area, but don’t drive too far.

I had been driving past this place for year not knowing it was there until earlier this week. Went in for lunch today. Really good food and one of the best Arnold palmers your going to find. Would have been four stars if it wasn’t for the slow service. I witnessed a table sit for ten minutes without being acknowledged. They weren’t sure if they wanted to stay or go. I guess I’m saying this is a good lunch spot if you want a high quality great tasting lunch, but not a great spot of you are in a hurry.

Two words: farm American. This sandwich is like thanksgiving dinner I’m a sandwich. The carved turkey is paired with an amazing fill mayo in cranberry oat bread. Their daily soups and desserts are always a good choice too!

Charmy little place in an odd location. Food was good especially the roasted red pepper and Gouda soup I had. It sold out quick though. The menu is limited and bit expensive but this place seems like the optimal«get away» from work during the lunch hour.

I’ll make this short. They only serve lunch. Menu consists of primarily sandwiches(not toasted or paninis, but just sandwiches). Variety is extremely limited. The sandwiches all have mayo on them(flavored in one way or another). Those are all facts.
