I spent half an hour between two Walmart stores waiting for the operator to pick up my call, then no one picking up in the photo department, then asking to speak to the manager on duty with the New Berlin store, only to have the same experience with the Waukesha location. The manager on duty at the Waukesha location said he would have to run to the other side of the store to see if he could locate the product I was looking for. I thanked him and said I’ll call someone else who can answer a product question and has customer service. Maybe the new Meijer store will be a much better experience when it is completed in Waukesha. This is why I do not shop at Walmart.

Gotta love how each and every walmart, regardless of what town it’s located at, has it’s ghetto fabulous crew that always seems to reside here. Maybe it’s the ‘low prices’ that attracts the crowd… but anyways, without getting side tracked too much, I must say this wal-mart is definitely a hit or miss. I only go here if I must pick up an online purchase, get new glasses, or last choice for produce and grocery items. Other times, such as purchasing a TV was a CAREFUL researched selection that my wife and I made. Other than that, this walmart is alright, not terrible compared to others i’ve seen. I’d even say better but walmart will always live with its reputation. Something funny and interesting here is there’s a guy that works there that looks like the black guy from Happy Gilmore, a guy that looks like count dracula, and if you’re lucky you’ll catch the employees holding a hilarious conversation. I would talk smack but I know how it is haha.

While I try not to visit Walmart that often in the hopes of supporting the small guy, sometimes you are on a budget and crunched for time, so Walmart fits that hole. My three complaints… the produce section, the messiness, and time it takes to check out. The produce section of the store is very hit and miss. Sometimes it is fine, other times it is a bit… well disgusting to be honest. One example: I was looking for Mustard Greens and besides there not being any, the collard greens and the Swiss Chard looked not just wilted, but on closer inspection, a couple of bunches looked a bit moldy. The messiness… maybe it is just the times that I go, but I feel like I am always dodging something or rummaging through to find things. However, I don’t feel like this is an isolated problem, based on my other Walmart experiences. The last is the time it takes to check out. If you are in a hurry, it is impossible to get through quickly. And the lines for self-checkout are always quite long, so trying to bypass the long lines is not really possible. And the staff aren’t entirely helpful in this situation either. Overall, if I can avoid it I do, otherwise I try to only buy what is necessary and get in and out without incident.

This is the new Wally World on West in Waukesha. It is a 24 hour Supercenter that replaces the cracker box that was the old store on the east side. It’s been open a little more than a year but some folks still go to the empty building and wonder what happened. While not the largest Supercenter in Wisconsin, it’s still a large store with a wide selection and a big inventory, the grocery area is huge and the health & beauty area is about the largest I’ve seen. The electronics department is large but usually seems understaffed. It seems to take awhile to get someone to unlock a secure area for you, but once you get someone to wait on you, they know the product lines very well. The photo department is now in front, next to customer service, which, by the way, is one of the best customer service desks in the area. Overall, this is one of the better Walmarts I’ve experienced.
