El Mezcal

The host threw the menu on the table as he «sat» us. Waitress didn’t check back to see if everything ok, which it wasn’t. My ala carte burrito had a sauce on it that I didn’t like. Upon checking out, the cashier was not interested if our experience was good. No chip refills. Never going back!

I ordered steak fajitas and a burrito. Both of these were subpar at best. Don’t understand my other Unilocalers here. Do yourself a favor if you have had great mexican food don’t come here you will be disappointed.

Amazing food… and to top that off you get alot of food for your money … very good mexican food

My family stopped for a quick lunch and were surprised how fast the service was. The parking lot was full, but we were seated immediately. The food and wait staff were wonderful! We will be back.

Been here many times and we have never been disappointed! The staff is always helpful and attentive. The food is very authentic and reasonable! One of our favorites places to dine for lunch or dinner!

Gotta be one of the best places in the ‘Sau to grub. Their salsa is my favorite in the world… like honestly it cannot be beat. Large portions, great price, incredibly fast service… I can’t say a bad thing about this joint. Order a chimichanga and never look back. Also can’t go wrong with the fajitas or nachos de el mezcal.

Great place for a great Mexican meal! We’ve been coming to Elmezcal since 2007 and not once have they gotten the order wrong. The food is a great price, the staff is always right on top of your drinks and getting your table cleared of empty plates. Their food is so much like the Mexican we miss getting when we lived in Arizona.
Their cheese dip is a must!

The food here is consistently delicious and portions are generous. We’ve never had a bad meal here and is our go to place for Mexican cuisine in Wausau.

Best Mexican food I’ve had since I moved north. Staff was friendly. Our group had chili rellano, nachos, and a chimichanga. Food was authentic and delicious. Menus are in English and have descriptions of the dishes if you are unfamiliar with Spanish.

The workers there seem unhappy or bored. The energy is zero. They don’t say hello, if there is an error there is no so sorry… nothing. It wasn’t just us, I watched the servers… they don’t smile, neither does the manager. When I checked out she said, «was everything ok?» I said no it wasn’t … She just giggled nervously… really!!!
My husbands food was ok, a bit heavy. My order came and had two mistakes. I think the server didn’t understand much English as we had trouble trying to discuss beer choices, my husband reverted to Spanish actually, so leave off the cheese sauce and no beans please… didn’t happen. When it came a second time there were still problems… the food description on the menu did not match the composition of the food so I gave up and just drank my drink.
Very disappointing, would not go back since there is a better choice which also has a location in Antigo which we did not see. That place is great, a favorite.
We aren’t picky gringos, btw, husband lived and worked in Mexico for several years. This is just mediocre… and depressing.

It’s Mexican food. It’s amazing. Trust me. The staff is equally authentic, so you know it’s good.

Excellent service and food was outstanding. The food was authentic and fresh, plenty of staff of hand to accommodate everyone’s needs. Ambience was casual and comfortable.

Great food and ambience! Their taco salad and guacamole are killer. Food presentation is quite lovely and their service is great too.

Pros: Great staff, fast, more bang for the buck, kids friendly, good food. Price to food ratio is fair. White cheeze dip for the chips are excellent. gotta try the fried ice cream. mouth watering!

The service was fast, the food was inexpensive, BUT if you are looking for real mexican food, keep looking. The food is bland and flavorless. No spices, no veggies in the rice, nothing in the queso dip, JUST plain melted cheese, no peppers or anything! No salt, no pepper in the meat. REALLY tasted like the cooks had NEVER had mexican food cooked by native mexican people! Was a complete disappointment.

Really quick service. Great prices! Food is consistently good. Convenient location right off the highway near shopping. Great options for vegetarians. Plenty of food for the price!
