This has to be a one-of-a-kind institution in Wausau. Picture a cozy, divey bar with restaurant booth seating on one side and a greasy-spoon counter on the other. We sat at the bar and read the menu off the chalkboard. The local tap beer selection was small and good. I ate the Polish sausage and kraut, and my husband had the meatloaf sandwich(the cook even toasted the bread on just one side, which he requested as a joke). Our meals were very savory, filling and bracing for the bitter day outside. Polack Inn was exactly what we were seeking, and we were very happy.

Interesting place! Not sure what to qualify this place as. One part dive bar, one part diner and one part music venue. I went in for lunch so I can say much about the music venue part. I am assuming it is in the back room because it looked like it could be set up for a band. As I walked in I saw an old time wooden bar with restaurant type booths by the windows. On the side was a diner type area with stools. It was set up kind of weird. One side of the bar was a tavern with seating and a pool table, the other side looked more like small town diner, with locals reading the paper and drinking coffee. The menu was on a wipe board with about 5 choices of comfort type food. Today my choices ranged from lasagna to breaded pork loin. No bar food like hamburgers and French fries. I had the chopped stake with caramelized opinions. Came with a piece of homemade bread and mashed potatoes. It was very good. I also ordered a bowl of chicken dumpling soup. The soup was good but very salty! Whole thing was $ 9 including a drink! They even gave me a punch card for a free meal after 10 purchases. The place could be cleaned up a bit, but the food, friendly service and prices will have me coming back.
