Well. Interesting place we found ourselves… because the cheese curds were recommended… if that was cheese curds… i can live without them. The waitress didn’t know how to do simple math-what is half of 17.50…she wasn’t sure. There were fish mounted on the wall and this seems to for sure be a locals only kind of place.

I usually order the blackened Cajun Walleye, but this time I red a tip that their Finnish Bake was good. So I tried it. Wow, they were right. Very good creamy cheese sauce over nicely cooked Pike. That flavor was intense. If you are not one that likes powerful flavors, then you might want to pass on this dish. This is my new favorite dish here. As usual, the staff were awesome.

Best fish in town! There must be something special in the breading because it is the best fish fry I’ve came across yet! Great cod and perch, my fiancé really enjoys the cajun style as well. We called our order in last time and it was ready right when we walked in the door. The bartender there is super nice and attentive as well. You must try this place!

Went to Whiskey River for my first official Wisconsin fish fry. Walking into the place it looks as if the décor and the clientele have not changed in well over twenty years. If you are dressed in anything fancier than a sweatshirt, jeans, and sneakers expect stares. The place looks as if you are in someone’s basement. The place was packed at 6:30 on a Friday night so we had drinks at the bar while we waited about 30 minutes for a table. Drinks were very inexpensive. Only $ 3 for a gin and tonic! I started my meal with some cheese curds. They were very tasty! But really how can you go wrong with fried cheese. I also had the classic beer battered cod with french fries. The fish was fried to a nice crisp brown and wasn’t overly greasy. The food was good but nothing to write home about. Not sure what all the hype is about.
