I’ve taken a few lessons from Carousel in the past. I found the instruction to be good and at a decent pace. I could see some of the absolute beginners being left behind though, and it was a little slow for my preferences– but they did well with a wide variety of experience. There are definitely very few single people there(at least when I went) so I felt bad for people who didn’t have a partner. Their private instruction is also decent. You get a whole hour to yourself to learn what you need to learn, but it will be … partly what the instructors want to teach you. I won’t go into detail, but there was an incident of their instructor undoing what I had spent a good amount of time teaching someone(I wasn’t wrong, it was just different — and different for a specific reason). I was very displeased with that, but also understand that the instructors thought they were doing my «student» a favor. Their social dance parties are fun — again, if you have a partner. I went with a few girlfriends and was only asked to dance once or twice. Most people danced around the floor with the same partners all night. But it was still a good time and I’ve been back.

First of all, this business has since moved to West Chester. The new location is a renovated warehouse, and is difficult to find because one would not really believe that a dance studio could be there. However, the inside facilities are gorgeous. Although, they are still working out the kinks as the air conditioning went out several times throughout the night. I am very sad to give this place a poor review, as it is one of the closest places to where I live to dance. However, this is just a poor place to go to dance. The night I went there, there were very few people there, and almost no single people. Fortunately, I brought a few single friends with me because I was afraid this would be the case. Most of the singles there were women, some of whom did not dance much all night. The couples only danced and spoke with each other; it was very cliquish. Never thought I would use that word to describe an experience past high school age. Even the teachers did not dance much with the singles, perhaps that was because 2 of the 3 were women, however, I still think it is a shame. I appreciate it when the teachers ask new members to dance and draw them into the dance community. The quality of instruction was also poor. Some of the steps were taught incorrectly, and the instructor was not always clear in the way material was presented. The instructor did not seem to dance with proper technique; perhaps they were not trying in a social setting, but nonetheless this was my observation. The music was also dated, and not to my liking. I tried to request a song, and was told everything was prerecorded, so that would not be an option. To end on a positive note, the food that was served was homemade and very good. I was told one of the instructors made it. At least that made the non-dancing portion of my night bearable.
