It’s ok. Variety of choices, but as most buffets I try, they are lacking in taste. Buffet ice cream station is self serve, the scoopers got a bit nasty to use(and see). Nice banquet room and friendly staff. Lots of parking.

Went to Mikado 23 for a lunch buffet with colleagues. This is my third time visiting this place for lunch. I would rate this place to be OK. Décor is good; cleanliness is wonderful; ample parking at lunch-time(shares parking lot with Hooters) and is very quiet. Navigation to the place is without any complication(on route 23) This place could easily sit 100+ people for lunch in their halls, but two of the three times, I did not see it even 20% full. One of the three times I have seen it completely full and overflowing(Chinese new year). Wonderful thing about this place is that it is Sushi buffet place and the quality and variety of sushi at this place is great! They have other expected chinese and japanese entries(e.g. chinese dishes, chinese sups, appetizers and desserts). Overall quality of food is very good and fresh for Sushi, sashimi etc. For chinese dishes, it was ok(not great). Its an all you can eat buffet with good selection in all departments. I especially liked their home-made style ice-creams. Its selection on a normal day is nothing compared to how good it is during festival seasons(chinese new year e.g.). The staff is attentive(but nothing special; they are always yawning since not much to do there). In the main dining hall their TV/video selection is aweful with some japanese/chinese/korean soaps or some such thing playing. Song selections playing on overhead speakers is pathetic with some kiddish chinese songs. They should turn those things off for better lunch experience. Overall, I like the place; if you are in a mood for Sushi buffet, I would definitely recommend it. Its a good place to have a nice leisurely lunch. Go with no breakfast so that you can taste and enjoy lunch selection. I have never been to the place for dinner(neither have plans for the same).

This place is OK for sushi, I went here yesterday and the sushi looked pretty well. dead. haha I went here because Minado at morris plains for dinner is expensive so I wanted to try out a cheaper sushi buffet and went here to eat. The sashimi was fresh but the sushi is something that is ok and this is coming from someone who isn’t really picky about sushi. I also think that the sushi didn’t look as satisfying was probably because our party was like the only three parties there so the sushi isn’t freshly made constantly, so I’m not sure if i can recommend going here on a non busy day where the sushi isn’t constantly being changed. The staff was really friendly, BUT I CANT say the same for the mexican workers there who make the sushi all they do is give FEMALES a perverted stare and they keep doing it which I feel is typical of the mexican workers at mikado 23 and at minado not being racists but thats what the workers do there. So if you are a female and might be wearing booty shorts you will probably get checked out everytime you go up there for food. The best dish I had here was the dessert dish red bean tapioca which is a chinese dessert dish and its good here. Overall it was not a bad dining experience the Sashimi was very fresh here! So if you are just a sashimi lover you can go here instead of minado as minado is almost $ 10 more. I wish it was just $ 20 which would make the price more justify.

I was thoroughly pleased with the selection and the qualify at Mikado 23 on both of my visits there. There was a large selection of fresh Sushi, various Chinese dishes, raw Oysters and Clams, Yakatori… As far as I am concerned, it was a great deal and a culinary adventure. Notable is that they have raw oysters which are not usually found at buffets and they are, as is the case with everything else there, served on an «all you can eat» basis. Beyond the food itself, the dining atmosphere is spacious, and royal in aura. Big tables and high ceilings…

Been here twice, loved it both times. Gotta come with an appetite. lots of foods to choose from. Not just sushi, all types of american/asian style dishes. Yum!

About one word sums up this place: bland. This place is cheap, but that’s about all it has to offer. Sushi is tasteless, hot food is just so-so, and my crab leg had bug’s eggs on it. will not return. i’ll just drive 20 min to Minado if I want to binge.

I was disappointed. The sushi was not that good. I did like the color or texture. They do offer many choices but it just not too good. Service was okay but I would go back. We spent about $ 45 for two people. Buffet idea is interesting but I would go to a la carte restaurants in the future. Alex

I was hearing how people loved this place and was eager to try it. We went for dinner on a Wednesday night. What’s great is that it’s 20% off from Monday to Thursdays for the buffet. The place is nicely decorated and the service is very good. There seemed to be a lot of variety but half of it wasn’t edible. Most of the sushi wasn’t even fresh and the raw oysters were questionable. The cooked food was overly salty. I don’t know if I went on a bad night or on a weekday but overall, I thought it was pretty disgusting. My husband and sister in law didn’ t eat much because it was just so blah. I gave it 2 stars because the service and décor were great. The food is a different story. I totally prefer Minado over this place. I don’t think I’ll be back again.

Don’t go here. go to Minado! The quality has really gone down in the past year. The first time my wife and I came here a couple of years ago, we gave up going to Minado, the food was that good. Since then, it has been down down down. The sushi gets smaller and smaller(silly, because it’s all you can eat) and the fish tastes less and less fresh. The price has been creeping up as well. If you don’t want to drive to Little Ferry, it’s OK, but Minado is still the original and best.

Place only does Buffet. They have a large selection of different kinds of Sushi and also different types of Chinese food. My girlfriend doesn’t eat sushi but she found many things to try and really liked the crab legs. I am a sushi guy and tried many different ones. Some of them you can tell had been sitting awhile and those never taste that good. I would go when it gets kind of busy so you can get the fresher servings. The sushi isnt top notch obviously but its not bad either. They also had many different pieces of fish as well. Note though that depending on the time you go, the price is different. I went at 6pm and it was $ 23 a person(plus drinks). During lunch time its $ 12 and between 3−5pm and I believe its $ 15.99, so its not that cheap. Go hungry so you can get the most for your money!

Not a bad place. It’s all u can eat for $ 15.99 per person. You can’t expect the best sushi of Course, but for the price and the amount of selection of both sushi and the hot food, I say it’s worth it. I personally like the hot food buffet better than the sushi buffet They also have an extensive selection of fruits, cakes and ice creams The service surprisingly was good for a buffet I would come back here again

How can you not compare this to Minado? The name is a complete knock off and I’m pretty sure it was intended to sound similar. Frankly, I preferred it when they were Majestic. I was hoping they were going to be competing restaurants, but that didn’t pan out. The hot food was Chinese Buffet grade and the Sushi looked a mess. More like clumps than rolls. There is way too much rice on them rolls. And the presentation did not look fresh. I would suggest them turning back to a Chinese restaurant, but focus mainly on Dim Sum, like they had before in a section of the restaurant.

This place is so good! I like it way better than Minado’s and it is cheaper. Although this is more of a Chinese than Japanese buffet, the sushi here is still good and they have a vast selection. The quality of the food is pretty good and I always leave here super full. Can’t go wrong here and the mall is right down the block in case you need to walk off some of the extra calories.

This Buffet isn’t bad for a weekday lunch priced at $ 11.95. Big assorted variety of rolls, sushi and sashimi. Also decent hot food and salad choices as well as fresh fruit, bite size cakes and ice cream. The spread looks divine and endless. Great tasting rolls, but the sushi and sashimi had just an average taste. The staff is fantastic. Very friendly and helpful. If you’re taking a friend or family member here for their birthday, be sure to secretly tell your servers and they will make a big fun bash out of it with a gong, giant table sparkler and a nice fruit and dessert plate. The lights go down, disco music plays, hand claps, «Happy Birthday» is sung along with shouting«Bansai» three times all while holding hands… it’s a blast!!! Out of 100, I would give Mikado an 89%. I’ve been there 4 times now in the past 2 months and would return with no problem. See ya there?

I stopped by with four friends from work. Huge buffet but since I am not into sashimi, I could take it or leave it. The hibachi selection was limited. Most of the seafood was very good. Décor was nice enough. Not really date night material but nice.
