Excellent food, excellent staff, excellent location and décor — could not ask for more. A bit of a drive from Asheville, you can make it from downtown in 15 minutes and it well worth the effort. Like may Asheville spots, farm to table is the theme of the times — everything was very, very fresh. Portions are just right. Salads are crisp. I had the Chicken Alfredo and it was outstanding. She had the Scallops and they were just as good. The garlic rolls to start are killer — — — — — — — — Excellent service — wonderful wine list — highly, highly recommended!

Found this little restaurant on Unilocal in preparation for a trip to the mountains. Reviews were solid, and wow, did this place hit the mark! They brought out some garlic bread… something like a roll, sprinkled with fresh roasted, minced garlic. Drizzled with olive oil, and surely some other flavoring, it was fantastic. We sampled some of the calamari, fingerling potatoes, and truffle fries. All were a delight. Next I had one of their salad specials: apple, sliced prosciutto, some kind of amazing dressing all served over fresh arugula. For my entrée I had the scallops served over polenta per the recommendation of the waitress. Scallops are one of my favorites, but so many places overcook them. Not the Glass Onion! They were hands down, cooked and spiced to perfection. I thoroughly enjoyed the small town, local, and friendly atmosphere of the Glass Onion. Will DEFINITELY be back!!!

This place really surprised me. We asked an Asheville local for restaurant recommendations outside of town and this was high on their list. Not far at all from Asheville… About 10 – 15 minutes away and worth every bit of the short travel. Our dinner here proved to be the best that we had during our visit. First of all, the main street in Weaverville(where the restaurant is located) is quite charming! Loaded with cute stores and character. The restaurant itself is equally charming. We went on a Wednesday during the holidays. Lucky for us, we snagged a reservation and they had 1\2 price bottles of wine and all pasta dishes were $ 15(bingo!). Our server was personable and thorough. She took great care of us all evening, starting with providing us with helpful suggestions and delivering some of the best garlic bread I have ever had. I had pasta with organic chicken, peas in a light cream sauce. Absolutely fantastic and the right portion. All of the other plates received raves(pork chops and flounder). We didn’t have much of an appetite after our meals but we did manage to share a piece of chocolate cake. Amazing. I am only sad that this place is not closer. I heard that the owners moved from The Hamptons and opened this gem up not too long ago. I was impressed with this place on all levels. Very highly recommended.

Another favorite place. Enjoy everything about this place, particularly the farm to table efforts. Whether you just enjoy the Sunday brunch or have a nice dinner, you will not be disappointed.

I ordered the pork chop with black cherry demi-glacé and bacon mashed potatoes. I asked for the pork to be medium-well, but it was definitely well. Everything on my plate tasted very good, but I have to mention that the flavors did not go together. I’m not sure who thought to pair a sweet and fruity demi-glacé with savory and salty mashed potatoes, but it didn’t work together. Separately however, they were delicious.

Not your average Italian eatery. The small but inspired menu is complimented by unique cocktails, decadent desserts, and good strong coffee. The dining room is small but beautifully appointed… reminiscent of a neighborhood Italian place in NY. The service was top-notch. Everyone pitches in to make each table feel perfectly attended to. The knowledgeable staff gave excellent recommendations, and the kitchen followed up with astounding results. We will definitely be back!

Such an incredible find! We couldn’t get over this place. We travel a good bit and try great food everywhere. We put this place on par with our two favorites in the country! Everything was perfectly seasoned and fresh. The meal tasted of summer. We had a lentil soup with nettles gnocchi and wild boar. Also, you can’t beat the price! You won’t find this quality of food at this price anywhere.

Lovely restaurant with fresh and local ingredients. Once we ordered we received fresh garlic bread and it was fantastic! Of course we had a o order more. We started with our beet and pear salad. It was perfect. For my entrée I ordered the rabbit with homemade noodles and it was flavorful and tender. We had reservations for a Sunday night but did not seem to need them. The restaurant had many guests but there was no wait to be seated.

Quite exceptional. We visit MarsHill often and this is a favorite. Great staff — choices unique. Pasta dishes all home made noodles and great new desserts. Many great restaurants around Asheville and this one second to none.

I had a wonderful experience here with my family. Robert, our server, was friendly, prompt, and had a good knowledge of the menu and specials. ALL of the food was fantastic and served quickly. I will definitely be coming again.

We came here the first night in Weaverville and wished we could’ve had dinner here again because it was delicious. The service was great too. I had the chicken dish with pasta but I asked for the home made pappardelle pasta. I also ordered the beet salad and it was delicious!

It’s not hard to be the finest restaurant in Weaverville. The Glass Onion, however, would be in contention for best restaurant in nearly any town. There’s a personal effort in every dish… the chef’s hat and soul, it seems. Each menu item very individual and distinct. Lots of pasta dishes, not the spaghetti and meatballs and marinara sort, but unusual meats and cheeses and thoughtful sauces. Room is simple, a little noisy. Attentive, cheerful service. We went on a Wednesday. Half price bottles of wine and all pasta $ 15. A good value. The Glass Onion gets a fourth star for its cheesecake. New York style cheesecake, a truly magnificent confection, must be hard to make outside of the NY metro area. But The Glass Onion makes the best I’ve had south of Elisabeth New Jersey.

Fresh, local ingredients, homemade pasta, new and excellent desserts all the time, extensive wine list. Professional, five star service. Everything a nice restaurant should be. The owners are from NY and definitely know food. I’ve enjoyed every meal here, but once I ordered a scallop dish with a side of a mashed turnips and carrots that was especially delicious, and very creative. Beautiful and small but intimate location in downtown Weaverville. Highly recommended.

My husband and I went to Glass Onion for a date night. We loved the ambiance and the service was great! My husband loved the gnocchi. We got a potato florentine side that wasn’t that great. I wasn’t a fan of the squash soup but it wasn’t prepared poorly, I just wasn’t a fan.

We visit Asheville 4 – 5 times per year and The Glass Onion is always in our restaurant rotation on our visits — it’s a short drive and well worth the trip! We went for lunch this visit and had great service and delicious meals. It was a colder, rainy day so the white bean and pancetta soup hit the spot to start, tomato based but hearty. I had the ricotta gnocchi with fresh tomatoes, basil and garlic. A seemingly simple dish but unlike any gnocchi I’ve had — light as air and the flavors were impeccable. My husband had the wild mushroom ravioli, obviously handmade like the gnocchi. Don’t miss th splace on your next visit!

The Glass Onion is one of those places that initially surprises you with quality that exists in a completely unexpected location and then goes on to surprise you with the fact that quality like this exists anywhere. The emphasis on excellence is evident from the bread to the desert. Whatever process they use to make bread, which is the perfect amount of soft, crisp, baked, fried, garlic-coated, is without equal. The pasta, which was made in house, reminds you why places that don’t make their own are lacking. If possible, order everything. It’s all excellent!

In the cute little downtown area of Weaverville. Food was amazing. I really don’t think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. Great gluten free options!

My party of five walked in without reservation and were seated quickly. The first thing you notice is the noise level is a bit high but it’s bearable; you can still hear the person across the table. The waitress was friendly but a little under-informed in some areas, such as the gluten free options of pasta. Service is fast and punctual(they refilled our coffee and water quickly and the pitcher of water on the table was maintained at a good level). One member of my party ordered eggplant and clam chowder and was sorely disappointed. My own taste of the eggplant had more skin than eggplant and there was tons of cheese on top, that was the only thing you could taste. Later, my mom ordered the eggplant without cheese and she said it was better but still seedy. My uncle said he could’ve gotten better clam chowder at a chain restaurant. The restaurant’s saving grace was their wonderful bread, deliciously garlic-y and buttery. It was warm and delectable and went way too fast. I ordered shrimp and gluten free pasta, which was deliciously hot with a bit of spice. The spinach added in was a but clumpy but still a good balancer to the spice. The dish was gone in minutes. The gnocchi was creamy and full of flavor but once again, the spinach was clumpy. The scallops were light and buttery, almost melting in your mouth but the plate needed to be hotter. All in all, I would not come back but the place wasn’t horrible. The food was a shot in the dark but the garlic bread was THEBEST.

Glass Onion is a new restaurant in Weaverville, NC. It has a clean décor and a very pleasant atmosphere. It feels like they focus on the quality of the ingredients and they try to source everything locally and organic, supporting the local farmers which is a huge plus. Here is what we had: Sunburst smoked trout w/pecan crusted goat cheese over an escarole and baby daikon radish salad. The perfect balance of flavors, the acidity of the salad went so well with the smokiness of the trout and the pecan crusted goat cheese made the dish heaven. Lobster ravioli w/local english peas, fennel and lemon chive butter. That was simply delicious. what an amazing combination. It tasted to fresh and summery. And to finish the meal, a peach-strawberry pie w/house made vanilla ice cream. I really can’t wait to go back!
