The hostess and gentle men who greeted us were extremely rude and very short. The food was great, the staff needs more training on manners and hospitality.

Service great! Super Nice Staff. The menu had changed and they were happy to make me a vegetarian dish that wasn’t even on the menu tonight. Nice place and good food!

Big sky is a great place for people who like interesting food. The menu is well-constructed, with something for most people at reasonable price points. A lot of the food is locally sourced and the menu is clearly labeled for vegetarians and for those gluten-free. This visit, my wife and I split a small fig tart as an appetizer. I had pistachio-encrusted fish with beets on the side, and we shared a dish of mocha-cherry ice cream with excellent flavor for dessert. It’s not a perfect place for everyone or all occasions, but it’s certainly a very good option for many people and many occasions. It’s certainly the best restaurant in Webster Groves, with great proximity to the St. Louis Repertory Theater.

It was a very cold evening and I was eyeing some kind of soup but the mussels sounded good too. Fortunately they offer a Seafood Cioppino which is a tomato based broth with fish, shrimp and mussels– perfect! It was good and served with thin slices of baked baguette. My friend and I split the maple mashed sweet potatoes which were pretty good too. She ordered the flat bread with goat cheese and tomato soup. Unfortunately dessert was a bit disappointing. We ordered the special which was a chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream and strawberry compote. The ice cream and strawberry were yummy, but the cake wasn’t what I expected. Instead it was a chocolate waffle. From two avid bakers, it was merely waffle batter with some cocoa power mixed in. Next time I’ll definitely choose something from the dessert menu. Disappointing dessert aside, it was a good meal and I like how all the ingredients are locally sourced. Service was great and we discovered at the end of our meal that this place is the sister restaurant with Remy’s Kitchen(they are owned by the same person).

A very fab dining experience during a weekend visit to the area. Server was friendly and helpful. Salad was Fresh and good size. Sweet potato au gratin was decadent and cheesy. Pot roast w cheese grits was split for us to share was tender and tasty. The grits were rich and creamy. Dining companions tried the soup special and burger. All were satisfied and would like to return. Too full to try dessert.

12÷8÷15 Arrived at opening on Sunday 4:30pm(finished dinner at 6pm) as wanted to make sure we can enough time to get to a 7pm show in downtown STL. Did not have reservations but were graciously accomodated. My recommendations would be to get reservations as the restaurant filled up quickly after we arrived. Emelie was our server and was very attentive throughout the evening. The menu is interesting and had different takes on the standard fare. We started with orders of artichoke soup and tomato soup which we both thought we exceptional. We decided to order off the small plate menu and followed soup up with crab cakes and an order of New Orleans barbeque shrimp. The crab cakes seemed a little saltier than necessary(yes it is seafood) and the barbeque sauce for the shrimp had a burnt finish. We then had a mushroom bruschetta along with a beef stroganoff which were both good. We ended with an ice cream special and a fruit crisp which were both very good. Overall the starting soups and the ending desserts were something to come back for and would consider returning for lunch built around soup.

Went here for brunch with the family. Brunch is every Sunday from 10am-2pm. Big Sky is a cozy little restaurant with a homey feel. The staff is courteous and knowledgeable. Our waitress Jessica was very nice. The restaurant is small with a homey feel. We ordered the farmers breakfast(two buttermilk pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and breakfast potatoes) lemon ricotta pancakes(two lemon flavored pancakes with blueberry compote and bacon) and the scrambled eggs & rosemary red wine braised pot roast(braised beef chuck on housemade biscuits with breakfast potatoes). The pancakes are very heavy, not light and fluffy at all with an eggy taste. The scrambled eggs were over cooked to the point where they were browned and the breakfast potatoes are actually a hash brown bake which is OK. The pancakes are served with hard butter and room temperature maple syrup which both come out before your food arrives. The pot roast was OK, had a nice flavor, wasn’t really tender and the portion is the size of a bun top. It’s obvious the kitchen doesn’t wear hair nets by the hair clearly displayed in the food. Our waitress graciously apologized and offered other offerings but who wants to eat after seeing hair in your food??? The prices at Big Sky are moderately reasonably but for the quality of food being served you are better off going elsewhere for tastier brunch options.

We were with friends who had decided we would go here after a play at the Repertory Theater. We had reservations at 6:30p.m. and arrived about fifteen minutes early. Our table wasn’t ready yet, but that was understandable. The place was packed and I saw a few people being turned away at the door because of no reservations. The hostess was very charming and assured us we would be seated on time. We were. After looking at the menu, we were ready to order. For Mr. and Mrs. G, they were starting with Ellie’s salad, Mike the red beet salad with field greens and I settled on the pumpkin and bacon soup. Everyone agreed their salads were very good, and I was very pleased with my soup. It was filling and my stomach was very happy. Dinner included a small plate of salmon roll-ups for me, the sautéed farm chicken, and two cauliflower and cheddar grilled cheese sandwiches. Mrs. G had the chicken and said it was delicious and Mr. G tried it and agreed. Mike had the sandwich which came with a small cup of tomato soup and he thought both were very good. My salmon came with rye bread and a sour cream and caper mixture. The salmon was rolled up with sprouts supposedly in a lemon vinaigrette. I would have liked a little more of the vinaigrette on it but it was still quite good. Most of the food, if not all, is locally sourced. Another Unilocaler said it was a romantic atmosphere, but I don’t agree with that. It was quite an open space but maybe if you’re in love, any place can be romantic. I would definitely come back here again.

Is Big Sky Café one of the most underrated restaurants in St Louis? May be! I have been there twice now and both times the food was great. The romantic ambience is another plus. On my recent trip, I started with crab cakes, they were a little dry but overall tasted well. The baked kale chips are a must eat. The blue cheese burger was the best in my meal, the beef Patty was huge, succulent and exceptionally well prepared to my taste(medium rare). My partner had the root vegetables served with goat cheese and they were great as well. My next trip to this place would be for a Sunday brunch, I hope it’s as good as the dinner.

Had a really nice dinner here before the theatre! They were very busy, but the food was very good. Started with the crab cakes, dinner was a blue cheese burger & kale chips, dessert was peach bread pudding with caramel sauce.

Just celebrated our anniversary at Big Sky and everything was fantastic. A wonderful mix of flavors and outstanding service and atmosphere. They do such a great job at making«comfort food» uniquely flavored. Looking forward to our next visit.

A friend and I went in for lunch. Lovely décor. Very clean. Excellent service. Prompt and very friendly. I had the rainbow trout. It was AMAZING! My friend had the pot roast. Her comment was«I wish it wouldn’t end-so good.» We had mini carrot cakes and cinnamon ice cream for dessert. Perfect ending to a great meal. I will be back and would recommend to anyone. We had reservations which I would encourage. We were there on a Tuesday and the place really filled up.

The food is solid. I think the best thing I had was the side of mac and cheese. I’m a sucker for mac and cheese. The portions are small-ish for the price, but are tasty and definitely fresh! The reason why this place gets 3⁄5 from me is that I was hoping for more of a younger vibe than what I found at Big Sky Café. As a 20-something, I was at least 30 years younger than the vast majority of the other diners. There’s nothing wrong with a restaurant having mostly older customers, but I hate being«the young person» in a restaurant.

Even on a rainy day, one can still find happiness when you step inside a place that serves great tasting food that will get your taste buds dancing with joy! The setting melts the troubles away and the peaceful dining experience was altogether terrific. Maybe sitting by the window watching the rain fall helped but that was the feeling I got dining here in the early evening. To start with, they offered some carrot humus which was quite tasty. I had a glass of Cabernet and ordered the dry rubbed & grilled Geisert farm pork chop with fresh baby spinach, mashed sweet potatoes and drizzled with some balsamic reduction. I wanted to try an appetizer but I wasn’t too hungry so perhaps next time. The pork chop was cooked perfectly, I wanted it more done than how they normally would cook it but it didn’t turn out tough or anything. The sweet mashed potatoes as well as the balsamic reduction complimented the flavor of the pork really well. After finishing my meal, I’ve saved just enough room for a slice of their vegan and gluten-free dark chocolate flourless cake drizzled with chocolate sauce and salted caramel. One word: Heaven! I wish I had taken a picture of such delicate perfection but I was too excited and I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into some drizzled dark chocolate deliciously sinful goodness(it was that good that I don’t even care if my description goes well together). The cake was moist and rich and I loved the salted caramel! Oh my… I might just come back for that alone. The service was wonderful as well and the place was well-kept. I can’t wait to come back and try their other menu items or just for another slice of heaven.

Wonderful experience. Got a reservation for 11(not easy) for a Friday at 730. Between us we ordered the majority of the menu and can honestly say that no one had a complaint about any dish. I couldn’t recommend any restaurant more than Big Sky.

Had some great luck recently with trying new places that I was on the fence about, so before a friend’s birthday in Webster we figured Big Sky was worth a shot. Unfortunately, things were disappointing all around. As we walked in, we felt a bit underdressed, as we were pretty casual with the unseasonably warm weather(jeans, t shirt, zip hoody jakcet). We didn’t look like bums, but we were fairly casual. This isn’t a complaint, more of an observation. But then I realized we were not just underdressed, but under the average age of the patrons by ~35 years. This wouldn’t necessary be a bad sign, as the restaurant was mostly full, but it was just odd that the average age of folks having dinner was ~65. In my head, I immediately thought, «Uh-oh, lots of elderly folks might suggest bland food!» but still hoped for the best. **SHOULDHAVERECOGNIZEDTHEFORESHADOWING** My guess is that it is the biggest post-theater spot or something, as it seemed like the restaurant cleared out all at once around 9:30pm. Service was good, well, maybe not good, but certainly not bad. It was exceedingly average. Outstandingly mediocre. Just kinda existing, but not good nor bad enough to talk about. **MOREFORESHADOWING** It was fine, but kind of awkward, in a difficult-to-describe way. It was as if the waiter was whispering and could barely be heard over the semi-noisy dining room. He brought out some pretty solid hummus, which we ate quickly(we were super hungry) and enjoyed. The menu looked really great, and because the small plates/apps sounded so good we ended up going with the beet salad, grilled cauliflower, mushroom bruschetta, and mac and cheese w/bacon. The waiter did say that would be plenty of food for us when we asked, and I appreciated his honesty! I have to say, the beet salad came out first, and it was pretty good! Not as many beets as I prefer, but we really did enjoy it. Then came the next three plates. Everything was… ok. Well, the mac and cheese was decent. A bit salty. A bit bland. The mushroom bruschetta had good mushrooms, but it was slapped onto a soggy, single chunk of bread. My second favorite dish, though. The grilled cauliflower on roasted red pepper sauce was… terrible. Embarrassing even. It was cauliflower sprinkled with parmesan cheese without any other seasoning, maybe broiled for a minute and dropped in a very bland orange roasted red pepper sauce on the plate. Really bummed about this one because I have had some killer cauliflower dishes in my time. It was terrible not because it tasted bad, but because it was more or less tasteless — like a non-entity. The mac and cheese wasn’t bad, but it was just kind of bland. We were starving when we got there, so as we filled up, we liked the dishes less and less. Maybe we just did it wrong? Maybe the best dishes were the higher priced entrees and it was our fault for ordering four side dishes/small plates instead which were not intended to be the stars of the show? I dunno. Maybe we missed out on the blue plate special? Hell — I dunno. I guess the experience was summed up when we were asked twice by a second server if we wanted her to box up the couple pieces of cauliflower left and maybe 2 macaroni noodles. What? No. It was nice of her to ask, but I have watched way too many episodes of Hell’s Kitchen not to realize that older folks are often associated with two things — 1) Bland food, 2) Doggy bags. Yep. That sure rang true. Price was ok, since I got an almost $ 7 bottle of beer too, but we ended up spending almost $ 50 with tip, for not a whole lot of pretty bland food. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend Big Sky, even though based on the reviews/menu I really expected to love it.

I am so lucky when I come home to St. Louis to visit my family. I only get home about three to four times a year(mostly for big holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas), but every time I do, my mom will organize a really nice dinner out one evening at a restaurant she and my dad have found. This time when I was home, we went to Big Sky Café, a little place in Webster’s Old Orchard district that they’ve been going to for years. I’d been told about how good it was, but never been myself, so I was excited to try it. We went the Friday night after Thanksgiving and arrived at the quaint little space Big Sky Café inhabits: it looks like a house with a big patio on the front, lots of potted plants, and a cozy interior sectioned off into little rooms for a more intimate feel. Very inviting. At the host stand we were greeted by the chef after a man who’d walked in tried to cajole himself a table for 10 in less than an hour(not happening that night, in case you wondered). We were quickly seated in a nice corner table against one wall and our waitress was with us quickly. She explained the prix fixe menu for the evening and then brought out water for the table. Even though every other table looked like they had a glass of wine, we decided to skip it that evening. After looking over the menu(everything looked great — it was hard to choose), which is locally sourced and changes based on the seasons, we knew what we were going to get. I ordered the rosemary red wine braised pot roast with gouda polenta, carrots, onions and celery. My mom ordered two smaller dishes: the PEI mussels and the butternut squash risotto with apples and pecans, and my dad got the 3-course prix fixe: tomato soup, a garden salad and the seafood cioppino. Since my mom has a gluten sensitivity, she mentioned this to the waitress when ordering and she was kind enough to bring out a bowl of chopped vegetables along with the crackers she delivered to the table with the house-made carrot hummus. I should also note that everything that is or can be made gluten free on the menu for Big Sky Café is noted. The hummus was really, really good. I’ve never had carrot-flavor before, but it was a good one. I also had a little bit of my dad’s Ellie salad before my main entrée arrived(his 3-course prix fixe had large portions), and the slightly sweet dressing was a nice change of pace. When my main course came, I was a little overwhelmed by the size: a very big piece of pot roast, well braised with vegetables and layered over the polenta(it was almost completely hidden by everything else). It was delicious too. Rich, hot and very flavorful. Unfortunately I couldn’t quite finish the whole thing off(it was just too much after the hummus and salad), but it was very tasty. I really enjoyed my meal and my parents did too — they’ve yet to have a less than stellar experience there. It was a great evening out and the prices for main dishes(around $ 15-$ 20 for an entrée) were very reasonable. Big Sky Café is a great restaurant and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a special place to dine in St. Louis. Well done!

Big Sky is close to home but I hadn’t been in years. I’ve been there twice now in the last few weeks, once for brunch and once for dinner, and it’s a new favorite! It’s a definite hidden gem in the Old Orchard neighborhood of Webster Groves. There is a small patio for outdoor dining as well as a dining room inside. Both times I’ve been, I’ve gotten great service! This is a high point. I am addicted to the creamy tomato soup here. It’s drizzled with pesto oil and has a slice of toasted bread floating in it. The soup is SO flavorful and delicious, and I love how the bread gets soggy with soup. I always save it for last. I have had it both times. For brunch, I ordered a peach bread pudding. It was flavorful but not warm, which was a bit odd. I found a hair in it and sent it back. They were very apologetic and took it off the bill. The second one also wasn’t really warm. Not sure if this was purposeful or not. The dinner I had, I got the mac n cheese. WOW. Perfectly cooked pasta, a little spice from pepper. It’s large and I shared with my other two dining partners. They had the burger and the beet salad, which was also good(got a bite). The drinks here are yummy too. They have good fruity cocktails and other offerings. The best thing? It is all local, sustainable, etc… and not too expensive. Our dinner for 3 was only about $ 35. I’ll be back!

I love this place! All local ingredients and everything is made in house. Part of their menu is set and part changes based on the season. On the set menu they have a Blue Cheese burger that is to die for! The patty is seasoned well and they actually put enough toppings on(I hate when restaurants skimp in burger toppings). If you come during Happy hour, the burger is half price! What a deal for grass-fed beef! And for dessert I’d absolutely recommend the Carrot Cupcakes — the cake is moist and has a hint of ginger and the icing is thick and smooth. The seasonal choices are always fun to try — I haven’t always fallen in love with everything, but you can hit upon some real gems. I personal wasn’t much for their Caramel Pecan Ice cream, but the seasonal roasted Root Veggies were amazing! Check it out!
