What makes a good pub? Well for starters, it’s needs to serve decent food and drinks. It also has to be priced reasonably. Solid service is a must, ambiance is important, and of course it’s gotta have some good Daily or Happy Hour specials. Llywelyn’s, specifically THIS one in Webster Groves, definitely checks off most of those boxes! THEGOOD HAPPYHOUR: Anyone who’s been to any of the Llywelyn’s locations around St. Louis is probably familiar with the weekday Happy Hour that runs from 3p-6p and resumes again from 10p-midnight. Whatever your opinion about the QUALITY of the food, you would be hard-pressed to find any other Happy Hour in the city that is better in terms of overall value. 10+ items ranging from $ 3-$ 5 with solid portion sizes, plus $ 3 pints, wines and cocktails is honestly pretty amazing. Our personal favorite is the Mussels for $ 5. Seriously, a big bowl of mussels for $ 5. You can’t beat that. DAILYSPECIALS: In addition to the great Happy Hour, Llywelyn’s runs Daily Specials too. In my opinion, the BEST is $ 2 Tuesday. Every Tuesday from 8p-close they run this special where«select» drinks are all $ 2. I put«select» in quotes because honestly, the list is massive and you will not feel restricted at all. Come to Llywelyn’s at 10p on a Tuesday to get both the Happy Hour food and the $ 2 drinks and fun times will definitely be had! Of course, you won’t be the only person with this thought so you’ll be fighting for elbow room, but it’s still worth it. AMBIANCE: Hands down, the set-up and ambiance for this Webster Groves Llywelyn’s is what makes it the best of the bunch. For one, it is the cleanest for sure. In terms of design, the main dining area is the most spacious of any of the locations and has a natural partition between the bar section and the dining tables so it never feels too overrun, even when the bar is packed. There are large side rooms that you can go to for escaping the crowds(or hosting events, if that’s something you wanna do). The front patio, like with the other locations, is big and laid out well. But my favorite part is the front couch area next to the fireplace. It’s like being in «Friends», except not in a lame coffee shop but rather in a cool bar. I really truly enjoy relaxing and drinking over there. THEBAD CHARGINGFORICE: I have no idea why they do this, but on $ 2 Tuesdays they charge $ 1 extra if you get your $ 2 drink on the rocks. It boggles my mind. PURGATORY DECENTFOOD: Nothing at Llywelyn’s is going to blow your mind from a taste perspective. Seriously though, it’s pub food. I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been amazed by food at a bar or pub. With that being said, everything here is solidly decent. On the Happy Hour menu, the Mussels always taste good and you can’t really mess up with Tater Tots & Toppings. In regards to the regular menu, the«Traditional Pub Fare» items are generally pretty tasty. My wife swears by the Pot Roast and gets it almost every time. I tend to agree with her as they do a good job with the gravy making it nice and rich. If you’re a fan of cheese, you might like their nontraditional Shepherd’s Pie. It’s REALLY cheesy, but actually quite delicious and filling. I’d stay away from the«Famous Steak and Cheese» as it’s just basically a not-that-great Philly Cheese Steak. I also wouldn’t recommend any sandwiches or salads as they are kinda basic and boring, unless of course you’re hankering for a sandwich item in which case their burgers aren’t that bad. DECENTSERVICE: Generally speaking the service at this Llywelyn’s is good but when it gets real busy it can sometimes feel like you are a nuisance and a bother rather than a customer. Don’t get me wrong, this is only in a couple of the staff that I’ve encountered and even with that attitude they still get the job done relatively quickly and efficiently. The thing is, I’ve caught myself at times — especially during Happy Hour or $ 2 Tuesdays — being EXTRA diligent at demonstrating my gratitude because I subconsciously felt anxiety at making sure they knew I really valued how hard they were hustling. It’s a weird, uncomfortable feeling. OVERALL Even if you’ve been to other Llywelyn’s locations and not been a fan, I encourage you to give this one in Webster Groves a try. I believe it superior to the other locations and with the Happy Hour and Daily Specials, definitely a great value for your money!

I’m usually never that thrilled when my co-workers want to go to Lywelyn’s for lunch but that’s now changed after my most recent visit. I wasn’t particularly hungry so I decided to order something small. A cup of their white chili and a small side of mac & cheese… both dishes exceeded my expectations! I’m not usually a fan of white chili… I usually think people just make it so they can be «different» from red chili, whatever. But Lywelyn’s white chili is awesome, good chunks of chicken, slightly thick in consistency, and warm… perfect for a cold day! The mac & cheese was also awesome because it had a special seasoning on it that gave it a real kick! Plus it was super cheesy! Can’t wait to visit again!

Llywelyn’s in Webster Groves is one of my favorite Happy Hour spots. They have an amazing selection of beer including many craft beer choices! They also feature a happy hour menu with some snacks and appetizers. For any Catholics out there, they have an amazing Fish and Chips which keeps me coming back all Lent long. We love to sit at the bar or in the bar area because that is where the ambiance is best. We’ve even visited here for two St. Patrick’s Days and are happy to say that they handle the crowd well and feature menu specials to celebrate! I highly recommend Llwelyn’s!

I recently hosted my friends bridal shower at the Webster Groves location, and I couldn’t have been happier with how everything went! Jen, their coordinator, was impressively quick at replying to my emails and was always helpful and friendly. She helped get everything nailed down so that everyone was aware of what time we were showing up, what time we wanted food brought out, and every other little detail you can think of. The manager on duty was SO nice and was always around whenever I needed her for something. If she needed to ask me a question about payment or menu items, she very politely waited until I was able to sneak away from the guests before talking about anything. The food was set to come out at 12:30, and I kid you not, RIGHT as my phone switched over to the half hour, the kitchen doors opened and our food was brought out. Fresh, hot, and beyond delicious. Our bartender was also just as awesome as everything else; he kept up with all our drink orders and cleared away everyone’s plates in a very timely manner. At the end of the shower, a few of us were hanging back trying to collect everything, and never once did we feel rushed to leave or like we were being kicked out. Everyone working there was so polite and willing to help us with anything we needed. For the price of everything, we got away with such a deal for this shower. Seriously, if you need to hold an event for 50 or so people, don’t waste your time looking any further! Whenever I need an event space in the future, I know where I’m going.

Been a regular for many years. Mostly had positive experiences. Went for happy hour a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty bad. We were ignored so badly we had to move to another table just to be noticed. The server we finally got had an attitude and the wings were terrible.

LOVETHISPLACE!!! Great pub food. They also have some wonderful salads. I recommend the house salad with salmon. They have some great events so you can do dinner and entertainment all in the same place. Awesome selection of beers too! Wait staff is very friendly and it is a great atmosphere to get together with friends and family.

I went here so much when I worked next door and lived minutes away. They probably have the best priced happy hour in STL, an awesome draft list, and great food. My faves were their sweet potato fries, homemade potato chips with rarebit cheese, pub pretzels, Irish mussels, fried Irish pies, buffalo chicken wrap… The list goes on. My only disappointment was when they took away their delicious black bean burger when they introduced their new menu… but, they did add potstickers to their appetizer list, which are surprisingly(since they are a Celtic pub) really amazing. I will miss working next door to them and meeting friends there regularly for happy hour. I will always be back when I come back to visit STL!
