Wow… pleasantly surprised. Didn’t look like much from the outside. Very nice inside, sat at the bar for lunch. Nice staff. Had the Angus burger with soft cheddar cheese an green beans instead of the fries. Food was very good. Great bar area too

First time here, I can’t remember what I ordered, because I was too distracted by my friend’s cheeseburger with soft cheddar and bacon. She insisted on giving me almost 1⁄3 of it, and it was so good, I vowed this was what I was ordering next time. I mean, seriously, I don’t remember what I personally ordered, because that cheeseburger left such an impression, haha.

These neighborhood joints all look, feel, taste the same. J Green’s is on the lines of Duffy’s, O’Leary’s, or whatever the local spot in your area. Decent, but not all that fantastic food + good service… even better if you’re a regular, at a spot close to the house. J Green’s is near my house and I see myself returning on a semi-regular basis. They have all the basics, burgers, salads, pizza, etc. They have a happy hour and a hanful of TV’s for watching the game. It’s not stuffy, crowded, or all that loud. We tried out some of the happy hour specials… $ 5 each… mini chicken fried steak(chicken nuggets on top of mashed potatos with gravy), potstickers, cheese sticks, and popcorn shrimp. Nothing outstanding. The drinks were on special too and the bartender did not skimp on the booze. Nice. Service was really good. We were made to feel welcomed, offered suggestions, and she stopped by often… Molly was her name.

First let me start by saying the restaurant was super clean and it’s very nicely decorated. The hostess/waitress was nice. The food was not as nice. I ordered the smoked chicken breast and roasted potatoes. They were drenched in oil. The green beans were also drenched in oil and had a ton of garlic. We had high hopes when we walked in but the food was just so-so. Probably won’t be back.

i enjoyed the atmosphere and menu variety. our waitress was very attentive. my child had dropped something from his high chair and another member of the staff walked right past it without offering to help… but not the end of the world. the food wasn’t that great though. i would go back to try something else, but I’m not sure it’s a place i would frequent

We’ve eaten here 2 times and completely enjoyed it both times. Our waitress was fast and friendly(same both times) and I thought the good was great. I’ve had the cod sandwich and tried the salmon and chicken sand which. They were all good but the burger and tots were the star for me. Juicy and delicious. My kids really like it as well. It’s not the cheapest but it’s the best food I’ve found in the immediate area(maybe tied with Filomenas with a much better atmosphere.)

The bartender was fantastic. She was very friendly, helpful and fun. The beer selection was good and the homemade toasted ravioli were amazing. The restaurant seems to use a lot of local ingredients. They get their bread from two stores down. I don’t know how I overlooked this gem for so long. Edit: Juliette was the awesome bartender’s name. She rocked.

I *just*(within the last hour) picked up a to go order. I am a neighbor of this restaurant and ordered a wedge salad, wings and the bread pudding. Wedge salad: Don’t bother. I ordered specifically because of the promised avocado and there was none. Zero. Nada. And I didn’t even know there was such a thing as bacon with no flavor but if you’re into that you’ll find it here. It didn’t even taste of salt and isn’t bacon cured with salt? A horrible, tasteless mess. Wings: Not crisp and completely average and that’s being generous. Bread pudding: Surprisingly nice. Nice bread, flavorful sauce, generous ice cream, This is very sad. I can get there in less than 5 minutes but it isn’t worth it. Don’t bother neighboring citizens, it isn’t worth the effort. Overall grade: D *note: the bar service was fast and decently competent.

This place is kind of hit or miss. My wife and I live close and the six or so times we have been there it has been ok. The food is really just ok. Not a fan of the meatballs myself(too dry) but the pot pie is good. The staff sometimes is really good and sometimes not so much. Some dishes take a long time. A good amount of tvs. Beer selection is good in bottle but not draft. I have never just sat at the bar so I don’t know that aspect. It is greatly improved over the place it took over but it really doesn’t stand out from other places in Kirkwood/Glendale/Des Peres especially if you are taking young children.

Their white chili and burger were good, and sliders were too. Their chopped salad wasn’t really chopped and had too much dressing on it. Still, this is pretty solid pub fare. Prob 3.5 but I will round up to 4 stars since it seemed appropriate.

My husband and I have been on a staycation. We stopped by J Greene’s Pub yesterday afternoon around 2 for a late lunch. They weren’t very busy, and we were seated immediately upon entering. My husband had a burger and fries. I, however, am putting myself on a diet, and after eating doughnuts for breakfast yesterday, I thought I’d go light by ordering the Massive Nachos from the appetizer section. They are offered in two sizes: small($ 8.99) or large($ 12.99). I went with the small. You know, the diet and all. My husband enjoyed his meal. He said the burger was seasoned well, but the fries could have been crispier. That’s an issue we have almost everywhere, though. We enjoy crispy fries. :) My nachos were described on the menu as «hand-cut tortilla chips, shredded jack & cheddar, lettuce, black beans, jalapeños, pico de gallo, cheese sauce, sour cream, guacamole and your choice of smoked chicken, pulled pork, or beef brisket.» I chose smoked chicken. I’m particular about my nachos: Rule One: I only order nachos at Mexican restaurants. Rule Two: I only order nachos with refried beans, melted cheese(not cheese sauce), grilled or fajita chicken, and guacamole. Those ingredients are mandatory, and sour cream and pico de gallo are optional. As you can tell by the name of the restaurant and the menu description of the nachos, I violated both of my rules yesterday. Something obviously went awry in my brain. Yet, I am pleased to say that I really enjoyed the nachos. My small Massive Nacho order actually was far from small. I received a heaping plate of chips, topped with a decent amount of most of the aforementioned ingredients. My serving seemed to be light on black beans and chicken. I would have loved more black beans, but having my nachos a little light on chicken was okay with me. I’m an omnivore that leans closer to the herbivorous end of the scale, and because the chicken was smoked, it had a lot of flavor. My favorite part of the nachos might have been the cheese sauce. It was a thin, white sauce that, as a result of its low viscosity, had collected mostly at the bottom of Nacho Mountain. However, I dug it. To me, these nachos were perfect in their own Mexican-American kind of way. I also was happy with the service here. Our waitress was attentive and kept our drinks refilled, which is a huge plus for me. :) So, that was my late-lunch experience on a weekday afternoon. Give ‘em a try, and see what you think. They offer a variety of food that includes personal pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, and salads.

First off let me say– make sure you when you put this in your GPS that it takes! For some reason they have a hard time taking the address to this place– Its not too hard to find, but it is located on the end of a tiny strip mall — and could be easy to miss if you werent paying attention and not familar with the area– We had came here to eat to visit DH’s son who was working, and a new server. We started off with two orders of wings– the sriracha glazed and the sweet and spicy. both were really good, and had good flavor– i would order both again– they state they have craft beer here– which they do have a few on tap–(not a ton) but a few– and i LOVE the glasses they serve them in– for my meal, i ordered the toasted ravioli and a house salad– honey ordered a bowl of the white chicken chili and a chef salad– The house salad was really good, and i got the white balsamic dressing– the white chicken chili was amazing– apparently they are known for good chili and they live upto the hype. now… when my toasted ravioli came out— HOLY… CRAP… those things were the size of a square coaster! and i am NOT exaggerating– the biggest toasted rav i have ever seen!!! they were obviously homemade– and i chose the beef ravioli my ONLY«complaint» on the toasted ravioli is that it was missing some of the herbs or something that the filling of toasted rav’s normally have– like the standard toasted rav filling taste— does that make sense? it had cheese in it with the beef– and it WAS good, but i dont think the filling of toasted rav should stray too far away from what its supposed to be. nonethless– it was good! DH’s daughter ordered some jalapeño poppers, and she loved them– they looked equally delish. Im looking forward to going back and trying other things on the menu– when you go in, ask for Brenden :)

I have been here a few times and cannot say anything bad about this place. I will say if you are there to drink and/or sit at the bar during dinner hours, it can be a little quiet and give you the sense you should ‘fall in line’ until the bar crowd arrives. In my opinion, management needs to work on this and not make it feel so stuffy. After dinner hours it certainly feels more like a bar. I have eaten here several times as well and the food has always been good. I get the impression ownership went the extra mile to create better than average quality food. The service has always been very good as well. Overall I recommend this place if you are looking for a laid back place or live nearby. This area of Kirkwood/Glendale needed a place like this.

Went there for lunch and had a great experience. We sat in the bar area and had a very nice and attentive server(the bartender). The food was wonderful. We started with a basket of sweet potato fries. While I love spf at almost any establishment, they usually come out shoestring style. These were not. They were very meaty spf as well as being perfectly salted. Between three of us we easily emptied out the basket. It was a great starter. For my entrée I tried out the Kale-Romaine Caesar with grilled chicken. In the past I have been let down after forgetting to order my dressing on the side(dressing soup anyone?) but in this instance I was pleasantly surprised when I realized I forgot to ask. The ratio of dressing to salad could not gave been more perfect. The greens were crisp and flavorful and the dressing was a light and tasty compliment… as opposed to some Caesars that are overpowered by the dressing. Perfect amount of Parmesan and croutons as well. I was also happy to discover the croutons were made from freshly toasted bread(I would assume made in house) unlike some of the jawbreaker tough croutons I’ve received from other places. The chicken I added on was a great choice. It was perfectly grilled, a light char, yet still tender and juicy. I rarely find myself eating every last morsel of my salad, this was an exception. We finished with the bread pudding. While I didn’t really want any myself(we ordered it to share), once it came out I couldn’t resist trying it. Three bites later I found it hard to stop eating eat! The bread pudding was very soft and moist, but what I enjoyed most was the crust that formed around the edge. It sat in a pool of caramel with a side of vanilla ice cream. I washed all this down with a Stella cider, which took a while to choose with the wide variety of beverages they offer. Overall I had a great experience and would gladly return, in fact I plan on it very soon!

Great variety on menu, good beer selection, and friendly staff! Food was great! This is a great place to have a family dinner, have dinner/drinks with friends, watch sports, etc! Love that they have a patio, too! It’s a great addition to the area!

Two words. Delightfully surprised. Upon first entering this eatery, you notice the staff is friendly and the place is pretty well laid out. I sat in a booth and the server was very attentive. For dinner I ordered the grilled cheese with corned beef and a side of cottage cheese. It sounds weird, but it was a solid victory. The corned beef is made in house… in fact all the meats are smoked in house. That alone will bring me back. The corned beef was phenomenal. It wasn’t too salty and had the perfect smokey taste. This sandwich was definitely something to write home about. The cottage cheese was of good quality and wasn’t runny. Overall, I was a happy camper. The person I was with ordered the sliders and fries. Their sliders were tasty and not too greasy. The fries were above average and tasty. I will be making this a monthly spot now. Next time I am trying the brisket sandwich. I can’t wait!

Nothing too crazy to add here, just that we had a large group come in to watch a football(SEC Championship) and we had a great time… thus prompting the 4th star. Buckets were cheap, apps were good and cheap, and the staff is great. Place was packed but we had a server at our table whenever we needed. Look forward to making J Greenes a consistent go to place for watching games or just to go get some good bar food and have a drink

Great place to watch any sport but especially Sunday football. Not to mention the bartender makes one of the best bloody Mary’s. Drink wise I am very impressed from the beer on tap, selection of liquor and also the cheap buckets always helps! I was not impressed with the brisket sandwich as it was tough to eat and didn’t need to be served as a sandwich more of just a platter of brisket would be good. Their wedge salad is amazing! The avocado and house made blue cheese dressing give a regular wedge a lot of pizzaz! Their flatbreads are also Delish and larger than expected! Overall I really like what they are trying to do here, but with all the regulars at the bar all the time it will be hard to continue to get new patrons to frequent.

Eh… it’s Ok I would say the menu isn’t anything special. I think they are maybe trying too hard when it comes to the selections but the kitchen needs some work… food sometimes comes out under cooked… the menu seems lacking of good bar fair. I try to give them chances, but the food gets worse everytime i end up here… so im done. Another thing they do that annoys me is they serve beer in wet glasses. It’s prob ok, but that kinda grosses me out… dry the glass with a towel or something! Your a bar, act like it!
