This place used to be good. After visiting after four years of being up north, this place has really let me down. Seems like the cooks have lost their compassion for this cuisine. The sushi lacks flavor covering up the dullness with sweet sauces and spicy mayo. The tea was no better than packets of tea in a pot and even then, the tea was nothing more than water with a pleasant fragrance.

If it wasn’t for an invitation, I wouldn’t come here voluntarily. This is the closest sushi restaurant to where I’m staying. The next decent one is about 20miles away. So there’s not that many option to choose from in the area. They have a good selection on the menu. The price is very reasonable. However the 2 main things when it comes to any restaurant are the food quality and service. They fail at both. Almost every sushi roll has some kind of sauce on it. My idea of a good sushi roll is one that you can really taste the fresh fish. If they top it with too much sauce, maybe because they’re trying to hide the real taste of the fish, or maybe it’s just me. Also, the sushi rice is a little too dry and tough. They pack the rolls with wayyyy too much rice as well. The servers are not very attentive. If you need anything, you’d have to flag them down. My waiter was nice enough to notice my empty glass of tea, took it to go get refilled, but I guess he forgot about the glass somewhere cause almost 10mins later I was still without a new glass of tea. I had to flag down one of the waitress and have a new glass brought over. You might be better off going to HEB and get some sushi to go.

I went last week and the service was bad. We never received any refills on our drinks. The waiter never asked us if we wanted more soup either. He never came by our table until I asked for the check. The rolls were decent for the price.

Hmmm well I used to like this place more… my fried rice had shrimp with skin still on it. my sexy roll was not good the shrimp inside of the roll was somewhat hard… and the restrooms were less than attractive… I was surprised but probably won’t be back…

Well the water was good, took forever for the waiter to take our order. My wife’s sushi roll the rice was very mushy, my plate had 8 shrimp cut in half or maybe they were broken ads up to four whole shrimp. They tasted old and hard. I wouldn’t come with a coupon again.

This is how my experience at kato sushi went. My girlfriend and I walked in the server let us know we could sit anywhere we would like, as we started to walk the manager on duty just pointed us to go sit some place over there no words were said just pointed. how rude. There was also this weird smell I’m not sure if it was the old carpet but it was very disturbing. We sat down got the menus from this lady, ordered drinks and she brought us some soup with no spoon! Now obviously I’m going to need a damn spoon and I don’t have to be asking for utensils that I would be using. After her this other waiter took our order and left, meanwhile we saw this manager guy meet and greet every other guest that came in took them to a table and asked if everything’s ok. He never once did this at our table. The food finally came and it was meh, ok I guess. I ate it because I was hungry. After our I asked to speak to this manager and asked if we needed to know him personally to get some better service his excuse was that we were having a conversation that’s why he didn’t stop by, which was complete bs. I’m not sure what was going on but apparently you have to know this guy in order for them to give you a better experience which is wrong for it being my first and LAST time eating at this place. Next time I go out for sushi I’ll go to some place in McAllen, I guess what bothered me the most was how he attended people he knew vs people he didn’t, but this was just my two cents about this place.

It has been two months since I have eaten at this establishment and thought I would try this restaurant one more time with a friend. The sushi was fair but small portions. The worst thing was the appetizer that came out which had beef, chicken, and octopus. The octopus was tasty however the chicken was so raw I thought it was tuna. I have attached a picture of the piece — sorry it looks gross! I will no longer eat at this establishment or recommend it to anyone. One final note, when I brought the raw chicken to the attention of the server, she said there would be a discount. The discount was $.50 off of a $ 28 meal. I felt insulted.

We are regulars here and we have always had fantastic service! My boyfriend loves their miso soup and they don’t hesitate to bring him a refill. The sushi is always amazing and they are great portions. The restaurant is always clean and is a quiet calm atmosphere. Their music selection, whether country or oldies rock, is fine with us. Most of the time they have sports showing on the TVs, which my boyfriend loves and is a great distraction while I steal some of his sushi. :D The only bad thing I can say is that we do place orders over the phone quite a bit and sometimes we have to call more than once before someone answers.

The wife got take out from here. We love kumori in McAllen but it’s too far. Figured we’d try a local place. Pleasantly surprised. The tempura was very good. Can’t speak for much else on the menu. We will be returning for sure

I’ve been here a few times now. I’ve ordered sushi rolls every time and have yet to be disappointed. The prices are fair and the selection is pretty good. They even have some rolls that I’m pretty sure are RGV based, making them sort of Asian-Hispanic fusion dishes. They have the classic rolls and my favorites(California Roll, Rainbow Roll, etc) as well. If you call in an order, you can pick up instead of dining in.

Food was good. Service was bad. They acted like they were doing you a favor by waiting on you. Hope they get the message.

I had been coming to this place for years, but in the past few months, the portions have gotten considerably smaller and the service is no longer very good. My kids used to love to eat the kids’ Yaki Soba, but I ordered it today(for take-out) and it was nothing but a sad-looking cup of stir-fried noodles with wilted cabbage and old-looking shaved carrots: no broccoli, no cauliflower. I called to express my dissatisfaction, but the owner was not very helpful and never once asked how he could make up for my bad experience. I’m never going back there again.
