My SO has been trusting Alexa at Spyder Leatherworks with his precious motorcycle gear for several years. This year was the first time I ever paid Spyder a visit. I’m really glad I did. That jacket you see in my avatar? If you’re fellow female who rides motorcycles, you probably already know how difficult it is to find gear(especially leather gear) that fits perfectly off the rack. I FINALLY found a gorgeous leather jacket that actually fit me well and didn’t make me look like a giant marshmallow. The only problem: the sleeves were slightly too long, and the armor really needed to be moved up in the arms. Alexa took the applicable measurements and made it absolutely perfect. She even put some nice little leather zipper pulls on both of the pockets on that jacket, as well as on the cuff zippers. My awesome gauntlet gloves now fit perfectly with my favorite leather jacket, since the sleeves have been adjusted. I couldn’t be happier with her work. :D Spyder does a great job at a reasonable price. Wearing proper motorcycle gear is important for your safety. A good fit is the key, though — not just to your comfort, but also to your safety. If the armor in your jacket or pants isn’t in the right place, it won’t do you as much good as it should in a crash. Obviously, you hope to never go down — but it’s good to know your gear is protecting you as much as it can if you do. Alexa does all kinds of motorcycle gear alterations, on both leather and textile gear. She handles street gear and race gear, and regularly handles alterations and repairs for professional and amateur riders alike. You can mail your gear in, or you can take a nice trip to West Allis and visit her in person(by appointment, of course). It’s well worth the trip, because she’s also completely awesome as a person. Pros, amateurs(like me and my SO), Isle of Man riders(yes, really) — she’s game. If you need quality leather work done on your motorcycle gear, there’s no one in whose hands I’d feel safer.

If you have motorcycle leathers that require repair, alteration or customization — look no further than Spyder Leatherworks. Color restoration, custom graphics and lettering — whatever you need done, do not hesitate to go to Spyder with your needs. I apparently have freakishly long thighs. NO leather riding pants fit me properly off the rack. I emailed Spyder with a description of my gear and my alteration needs. Alexa responded with a quick estimate, which sounded fair. So I took the 2 hour drive up to West Allis, just outside of Milwaukee. Everyone, including the shop dog, was very friendly. They had me test-fit my leather pants, took some measurements, and discussed my options. They showed me where and how they could lengthen the pants, plus suggested adding«schoeller keprotec» stretch panels to increase comfort and flexibility in the knees. These were Alpinestars«Bat» leather pants — which are a touring pant. They offered to add Velcro patches to accommodate knee pucks so that these could do double duty as track-day pants as well. Now here’s the thing — I was originally only looking to have my pants lengthened. In the end, Spyder wound up lengthening the thighs, adding stretch panels to the rear of the knees, and adding Velcro patches on the front for knee pucks… all for less than what I was originally quoted via email. When I returned a few weeks later(I was in no rush and they had other actual motorcycle racer customers with events coming up), my pants fit dead on perfect. The quality of Spyder’s work is top notch — and if I didn’t tell people they were altered — no one would know this isn’t how my pants shipped from Alpinestars. I couldn’t be happier with the results.
