Good dim sum. Over the years, they increased the price too much. Because of that It seems not as popular as they used to be. Even we get there at noon, we don’t have to wait for a table. Since I don’t like wait, that is good.

Here’s a tip — come early on Saturday mornings because you will meet some pretty rude staff and crowded quarters if you come after noon. My friends and I decided to celebrate CNY late with some tasty dim sum and walked into dumpling heaven. We are almost every type of dumpling available and also ordered a vegetarian pan-fried noodle dish. The people carting around the goods will try to rush you, but take your time eating and ordering, the carts will circle back in about 10 minutes. A lot of variety, price is fair, and service is quick.

Went for dim sum around 11:00 am with a friend. We asked if they had any vegetarian dim sum and the waitress stated no and had us order bok choy — okay, fine, we ordered. First cart that came was all the dessert dim sum/sweet pastries — really? We said we wanted actual dim sum for meal. The waitress seemed annoyed with us. We then asked for utensils and she looked at us like we were nuts(hello, just because we’re asians, we use fork and knives too)! We also never got water and had to request for that 30 minutes into our meal and she never offered hot sauce. A couple carts later, I realized that they did have one veggie dim sum: scallion dumplings. My friend and I noticed that our female chinese waitress was very friendly/accomodating to the caucasion customers. She never brought around the dessert/sweet dim sum after we were done with our meals. Wtf. While the dim sum was good, I would not go back because of the lousy service. If you’re Asian, prepare for rude/cold attitudes.

I come here all the time for their late night dim sum because they’re open until 2am every night, but the last time I went there was a strange altercation between the waitress and a friend of mine. She accused him of not leaving a tip(I’m not sure if he did or not) and she then demanded he leave a tip and it all just made for a very uncomfortable situation. Looking past this one incident, they just have very poor service in general. If all you care about is great food and don’t care about service then this place is great.

I love this place so much. Every time I’m in the area I need to come twice; once for dimsum and another for dinner. It is the best dimsum in Michigan! The wait staff has been the same for the last 10 years that I’ve been going here so they’re super friendly and usually recognize me even though I only come a few times a year. I want to do the karaōke someday.

If the Chinese food you’re used to is sweet and sour chicken, chicken fried rice, kung pao chicken, general tsos, and egg drop/hot and sour soup. Please don’t bother… You can definitely order it here, but why? This place slings real Chinese food, not that stuff they sell at your corner fast food Chinese joint. Stop acting like you know, cause you dont. So, any time were around the area and it’s pretty late and we’re craving some after drinking food. We make our way here for some pretty darn good dimsum. They do the whole dimsum push cart thing as well, so you know it’s the fun dimsum type of experience. Lady comes over to your table and shows you all the yummy delectable items you can pick from. Choose some items, order a family style bowl of rice and you’re good to go! At first I really didn’t like going here, but now, I truly appreciate this restaurant. You’re a real gem Shangrila, I shall return for more dimsum soon. Follow me on Instagram and snapchat: rodtorres3

I’m not a fan of the place nor the food. The only reason i eat here from time to time is due to the hours of operation. The restaurant is opened until 2am. If you decide to come here I would recommend getting the Tamara chicken. –Only food that I enjoyed.

Well, the first mistake was coming here on Christmas Eve night BUT they did manage to find a table for 8 quite swiftly. Six of us agreed to share our dishes and the other two just wanted their own meals and now the dilemma ensues. We went from having one ordering slip to two(remember this part). The six of us chose Shrimp with Pea Pods, Chicken Lo Mein, Deep Fried Crispy Chicken, Green Beans, a beef dish and something else.(I don’t remember the last two because they came an hour after the previous dishes and I was full at that point). The other two in the party ordered their meals at the exact same time and for the life of me I can’t remember what they ordered:/(Side Note: Some also ordered soup and egg roll appetizers). Next, came the Volcano! We were sooo excited to sip on this cocktail. It was tasty but I’m pretty sure I got diabetes when I was done from all of the sugar in it. Two of us split it and it pretty much got the job done. Tick Tock… still waiting for our food and the table behind us walked out because they never got their food. Then half of the table received their appetizers, the other half didn’t. I think one waiter was working the entire back room where we were sitting at. Hence the slow service. Soooo the six of us received our food which was quite delicious minus the two dishes that came an hour late and the two that ordered separately waited an hour for their food to come. We were all finished with our meals and then theirs came. I think that was pretty unacceptable and on a holiday at that. Thank god for alcohol because I was completely oblivious to this entire night and I was completely entertained by the lazy Susan that was in the middle of the table that we kept spinning around and around amused and bewildered. Merry Christmas!

We went in for dinner before midnight mass last night. Restaurant was busy but not packed. Our waitress acted as though we were a bother. Food took ½ hr to arrive during which time we had no contact with waitress. She didn’t even refill our water. My daughters entrée, dumplings, arrived 10min before the rest of the family’s. I had curry chicken and my son Kung Pao chicken. They tasted good but we’re warm, not hot when they arrived. Because food took so long we had to rush through dinner to make mass on time.

disclaimer: If I could rate it 3.5 I would. This is definitely our go-to dim sum place here in MI. The lot of us are a bit spoiled by super cheap, super tasty dim sum back home. I would say this place is good, not great, but thank god its around for the late weekend dim sum runs(+10.5stars for that) 1. ambiance: standard, nothing too fancy. I don’t ever expect dim sum places to upscale and I like it that way. 2. service: receptive, relatively quick. 3. food: on a scale of 1 being the worst thing i’ve put in my mouth and 10 being the best dim sum I’ve every tasted, I’d give it a 6.5÷10. Its not AMAZING but its not bad. The one thing that is worth mentioning is the mango pudding — tasty! This review is for the dim sum only, haven’t tried the congee yet or any other food 4. time to come — I recommend early, right when they open in the morning is a good time. Food is fresh and you get seated immediately. Otherwise definitely a wait if you come even 1.5/2hrs after they open. Enjoy folks — It’s definitely worth the 20−25min drive for us when we go and we always leave really full!

What the f***? 18% mandatory tip? No authentic Chinese place would do this.

I stopped in for lunch with my mother because the cashier a few doors down was raving about their food. We ordered almond chicken and lemon chicken with egg drop and wonton soup. I loved the almond chicken, but the gravy was a little bland. The lemon sauce was delicious but the breaded chicken it can with was incredibly odd. I have to tell myself it was just bad luck and now an often occurrence but the glass my mom was drinking out of had a lipstick stain where she’d had her mouth, but she wears no lipstick. She also found a long dark hair in her food while her hair is light. IF we ever came back, we would definitely get dim sum because that is what every other table had and they all looked pleased.

Not that impressed with traditional Chinese restaurant. Service was spotty at best. Ordered shrimp, scallops and squid in bird’s nest. Bird’s nest was pretty and not greasy but the squid was tough and, in general, the whole meal was tasteless. Unimpressed with combination plates and presentation. For a Saturday night, the place was empty. I think it used to be very good, but this place may need to reinvent itself.

The other night was the second time for me to go here. Best steamed jiaozi I’ve had in a very long time. I ordered one of the chef’s specials with jellyfish, squid and vegetables, but there was an overwhelming amount of green chives, which wasn’t too impressive. I would have preferred more jellyfish and tofu. My Sapporo beer was extremely cold, which I was very grateful for because that is how I like it. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Next time I go, I am going to try the Dim Sum.

My go-to place for late night dim sum after a night of drinking! It’s like any other Chinese restaurant, except it stays open late for people who appreciate some good dim sum late at night instead of for brunch. I love their congee with preserved egg and pork, and chicken feet. The boo likes their sesame balls.

Yummy dim sum. We were seated immediately when we got there as it opened. We were served tea right away and they brought around the carts. I enjoyed our meal here because it wasn’t as loud and crazy as the dim sum places in California. We enjoyed the usual dim sum spread and it was easier to flag down the carts. Ask for mustard and spicy oils from the carts since it’s not on the tables.

I’ve been coming to this place for over twenty years and it’s still my favorite! Even after moving to California, I still haven’t found someplace better. Service is quick, and although there may be a language barrier with the waitstaff, they’re still friendly and very accommodating. The food itself is five-star, in my opinion. Unlike other dimsum places, where every item seems to taste the same, I think you can really taste the layers of flavors at Shangri-La. They’re generous with the shrimp and meat in all the dumpling-esque items. My personal favorite item, which I haven’t been able to find elsewhere, is the 白雲鳳爪(cold chicken feet — not the steamed bbq kind). If you’re feeling adventurous, I recommend that!

Good dim sum overall. Food tastes fresh, pick items from carts so may have to special order certain dishes. Pretty busy for a Sunday with a good mix of people. Overall decent but a bit on the higher side for price. Price per dish: Medium 3.45 Large 3.95 Special 6.95 Most dishes being medium sized

Recently came for dinner. They serve dim sum I believe all day and up until 2 am. The service is not particularly friendly, but that’s not uncommon with Chinese places(at least in my experience). They are kind of pushy and curt. The décor is nice, not over the top. They do have a tank full of fish that they apparently will cook up for you. My bf and I got some Tsing Tao and mulled over the dim sum menu. We got baked BBQ pork buns, shumai, some other type of shrimp dumpling, sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf, some shrimp roll thing, and sizzling rice soup to share. The BBQ pork buns were my fav. Super yummy and the wrapped sticky rice was delicious as well. I liked the shumai and the shrimp dumplings. Their shrimp is really good, it doesn’t have the chlorine/old taste that some shrimp have at seafood restaurants. Definitely tastes very fresh. The sizzling rice soup was good, the broth was flavorful but not too salty which I really liked. We had to ask for the chili oil but they will bring you whatever sauce you want. I definitely want to try more of their regular menu next time. It is very extensive and seems authentic, they have jellyfish and all types of seafood. The service was only okay and it took awhile to receive our food so those were kind of the negatives. Everything else was good.

The dim sum here is good. It’s my go-to place for dim sum. But that doesn’t mean the quality is good, it just means that there aren’t many good options around(California-spoiled). Xiu mai and pork ribs are always good. Chicken feet are usually soggy and not so great or fresh. It’s a trek from Ann Arbor, but when I’m craving dim sum, I go here. They also serve dim sum at late night hours as well(10p-2a) We had the mongolian beef, pan fried noodle with chicken and garlic, chicken fried rice, ma-po tofu, egg rolls, and dumplings. Mongolian beef was okay. The sauce was a little too thick, but the flavor was nice. You can’t really taste or feel the tenderness of the beef because of the thick sauce. The pan fried noodles was meh… maybe a 2 out of 5 stars. My main issue with it was that straying away from the edges, the inner parts of the circle of noodles were all soggy, possibly from the sauce, but probably because they didn’t fry it enough. The chicken didn’t really have much flavor, and the garlic were in large pieces. Chicken fried rice was A-OK. Nice flavors, good proportions. Nothing bad, nothing excellent. Mapo tofu… my first time trying it. My friend who seems to love this says it’s just«middle» of the pack in terms of what he’s seen. I thought it was good. Pieces of ground pork in soft tofu drenched in a sauce that seemed soy based with green peas. I’d like to see what a really good one tastes like if he thought this was just«middle.» Egg rolls and dumplings were good. Nice and crispy, but not much else to say with it. Your typical egg rolls and dumplings.

I have been a loyal customer of this restaurant since it opened. The quality has fluctuated over the years, but the food is generally excellent. However, if you go to this restaurant wanting to order Kung Pao, General Tsao or the like, you are better off going to your local greasy spoon Chinese joint. Also, like most of the Chinese restaurants in the metro Detroit area this is a Cantonese heavy menu,. If you want Sichuan try Trizest in Madison Heights. Ordering Sichaun here is like ordering a hamburger at a Mexican joint. Not to say it won’t be tasty. To get the proper experience at this place, you need to order dim sum, and preferably around 11am to 1pm. There are so many small plates worth eating, but my personal favorites are the bean curd skin roll, the chive bun, and BBQ pork buns. Also, if you have any religious or dietary restrictions with regards to pork or shrimp, this may not be the best place for you. That said they do make great fish dishes. Happy eating. .
