I love the Mad Platter! They’ve got a ton of older, more obscure LPs and carry artists that I’ve not seen around too often. Additionally, they’re a mom and pop place, and I’m always quite keen to support those. The only caveat is that they’re a little disorganized, but that’s hardly enough to take a star off as the friendly and helpful staff will always take the time to find what you’re looking for. They’ll always have my business.

Great selection of used and new CD’s, glad to see it hasn’t changed over the years! Stopped in for the first time since 2011 and was greeted warmly, left alone to look through their selection, and was impressed by the knowledge of the guy working there. He knew every song on the Heartless Bastards CD i picked up. I’ll definitely be back soon. with friends!

My favorite record store! The owners are always so nice and will look for anything your heart may desire and try to order it for you. They have a great selection of vinyl and the frequent buyers card is a huge plus. I’ve done two record store days here as well and they always get lots of copies in. It’s first come first serve by order in line so you don’t have to worry about dashing and wresting a big rush of people when the doors open.

When was the last time you walked into a record/CD store and found it not only friendly, knowledgeable and independent but also having a great deal of selection? The Mad Platter is a gem. The people who run and work at the Mad Platter know their stuff and are always friendly and helpful. The store has been around since 1976 so you know they’re doing something right.

Mad Platter is pretty good. Their selection of records is good, but not great. It’s a little disorganized, so it’s easy to miss something cool. But, they do have some interesting rarities hidden around the store. The prices for used records are very high, but every once in a while, you’ll see a fair price on something really cool. The freebie bin has some real gems, too.

Ok selection, Holy Cow pricing. It’s in downtown West Chester so it’s a great location. Parking can be had on the street or a nearby garage/lot. Once you get inside you realize how tiny it is and once you start digging the prices are deflating. They grade their stuff well it just seems like they’re at the top of the grade range on price for everything, no real deals to be had.

I was back home around West Chester recently and hadn’t gotten my music fix in a while so I decided to make a trip to the Mad Platter. It has a nice feel as you walk in, and clearly they have a good selection of music, both cds and vinyl. They also carry a few music supplies such as guitar strings, tuners, slides, which is nice to see. However, they could improve on a couple things. I was a little confused by the arrangement(or lack of) newer vinyl albums. The new releases were on various stacks throughout the store, but not necessarily alphabetically. Even though I spent a good 45 minutes there, I still felt like I might have missed something when I left. The other main thing to improve is the price. All the new releases were standard prices, but the used records were just too expensive, even for ones in great condition. I’ve been looking for Buffalo Springfield’s great first album for a while and Mad Platter had it, but for $ 28. I’ll admit that I’m cheap, but that still seemed like a pricey find. Overall not a bad place though, and good to see a music store doing well in WC.

Looking through their vinyl selection is always disappointing. The record selection is pretty vanilla, which isn’t offensive by itself, but their pricing method is outrageous. It’s as if almost no thought whatsoever goes into whatever number they affix to these records. For example, mediocre 60’s bubblegum records I usually find for $ 3-$ 5 are being sold here for $ 15-$ 20. Mad Platter is also the type of place that sells tchotchkes like t-shirts of Jimmy Hendrix, which is never the sign of a good record shop. Maybe they have to in order to stay in business, but such displays do not provide a good atmosphere.

Fantastic record store, the woman who runs it is really helpful, friendly and gets great used stuff! If she can’t get it, nobody can. They also have fantastic goodies in the ‘free with purchase’ bin.

Huge ups to Mad Platter for being an independent record store. Unfortunately, I probably only have a few 7“s in my record collection that I’ve been able to find here over the years. I’m into the pretty nerdy stuff, I admit, but just don’t expect to come here and find any of the rare stuff that you normally go to eBay for, you might be better of at Repo. Still, a lot of current indie stuff, if you’re into that.
