Best local Chinese food & sushi! We have been going there regularly(a couple dozen times a year at least) for over 15 years. Great staff!

Love this place. Live in a neighborhood near by and always suggest this place to my friends. Their sushi is always fresh and delicious and everything else on the menu is great too. I love that they let you make substitutions if you don’t like something. Also the owners are really nice and always super friendly. Yes it’s right in the middle of a busy road but it’s a diamond in the rough.

Don’t let the old diner design and the fact it is in a run down plaza fool you. I went here today instead of the even closer Asian cuisine joints to check out a new place(highly reviewed on Unilocal,so why not?) and oh man, I found my new Asian food place. Let me start off by saying I love when I see scrambled egg in my pork fried rice. A lot of places used to do this, and then stopped to save money. Seeing that before I even dove into my food was refreshing. I can’t really describe the food other than way above standard. I got Tso’s Chicken, pork fried rice, Wonton soup, and a California roll. I’ll be honest the California roll wasn’t perfectly made, but that wasn’t even worrying me since everything else was top notch. Huge chicken chunks, plenty of sauce. I love how they gave me a side cup of soy sauce to mix my wasabi in, instead of having to get one and pour it myself. Wonton strips in my bag was nice too, since thats another thing other places cut out on just to save money. Overall I just can’t express how much you should go here instead of your other cheesey Asian joints, I could tell this was a place owned by someone who cares, not someone who gut a hole in the wall just to make some money. The Asian man at the counter who gave me my pickup order addressed me by my name that I gave when I ordered, which showed professionalism. A totally refreshing take-out experience. I will be frequently visiting this location.

Went here as my family suggested for the calamari and wow! I have to say in all honesty, I would have never stopped there unless I felt like a diner day. Only giving a 4 star because the exterior and hopefully they will upgrade to get the attention they deserve! The food was amazing! Had a party of 6 plus my baby and was very accommodating to us. Very friendly staff, interior was very nice and relaxing. All in all, one of the better oriental food choices with a good selection of foods available.

I have been meaning to come here for a long time. I finally made it for lunch on a weekday, and I’m glad I did — my lunch was very good. Some reviewers seem to take issue with Sakana’s ambiance. Like the area that surrounds it, the building and décor are a bit rundown and outdated. So what? It’s not dirty. It’s just not fancy. In my mind, that stuff should only stand out in a review if it’s really good or really bad. This is right in the middle: clean and adequate. The staff wear shirts and ties, and their manner seems to match their more formal attire. They were very matter-of-fact, efficient, and prompt. That’s fine with me, I’m there to eat, not to find a new best friend. Whenever I try a new place, I get a spicy tuna roll to use as an apples-to-apples comparison of other restaurants. Sakana’s spicy tuna was the best I’ve had in ages. Fresh, flavorful, and just the right amount of spice. I also got a ginger salad, which was good enough, but nothing special, and a salmon roll which was very good, but overshadowed by the tuna. I will absolutely be back.

Sushi and Atmosphere… :(The inside is as dumpy as the outside. Dusty/dirty, fishing line holding up «Chinese umbrellas» just a scrappy place. BYOB, brought some Red, the wine glasses stained with lipstick, the glasses of water had the drying mat stuck to the rim of the cups. At this point if I didn’t order I would of left. Complementary edamame for each table, but they are server cold and with no salt, blahhhhh. Sushi was gross, didn’t even finish it. I have never left food on a plate anywhere…$ 65.00 for a reminder, most of the time you should judge a book by its cover…

This is our go to hometown place for asian food. They have Chinese, Japanese, and Thai. Sushi is always fresh. The menu is large and service is always good. The outside could use an update, but just go in and eat some great food!

Ordered take out from this Chinese/Japanese/Thai«diner» on a lazy night while hanging out with some friends who live in West Deptford. I’ll be honest: I was a little bit skeptical. First of all, whenever a place offers multiple Asian cuisines, I start to feel nervous. Then, on top of that, you actually want to refer to yourself as a diner? Okay… But the food was really good! We got a quart of wonton soup, which had 8 huge wontons and some tasty broth. We also enjoyed some pan fried dumplings, which were pretty good(better than the college take out we were reminiscing about, although not as good as the NYC spots we hit up normally). The Bangkok chicken was sweet and very Americanized, but actually rather tasty, even as leftovers this morning for breakfast(yes, I eat leftover Chinese food for breakfast because I’m weird like that). The Singapore Chow Mein Fun was my favorite dish: really well prepared with fine noodles, pork, and shrimp. Not oily, not too salty… really hit the spot. The Peking duck was probably the most disappointing dish, but that’s just because it was rather dry. The portion was actually pretty generous, the pancakes were soft, and the cucumbers and green scallions were fresh. I probably wouldn’t order it again, but I have no regrets in trying it. If I lived in the area, I’d totally make this a regular lazy night take out spot! *keep in mind that this is 4 stars FORTHEAREA. If you transplanted this place to NYC, I would have much higher expectations, but given it’s location and the price, I was very satisfied.

We were out late and we were in the mood for Chinese. This place was open, and has been around for years, so I figured it must be at least decent enough to still be in business, so we stopped in to give it a try. The interior is very nice. The lighting and décor are superb. The host was super friendly, as was our waiter. My wife ordered her favorate dish… honey prawn with walnut. We have ordered this dish every place where available, but only downtown Chinatown in Philly could make it to perfection. We were extremely impressed and very delighted to find this restaurant was definately on par with Philly, if not better. The cream sauce was not mayonaissey like most serve it, and they added asian pair with the cream sauce also, which really added a nice dimension to the dish. The broccoli was fresh and a nice green. Rice impeccable. I ordered safe… General Tsos chicken, and I can say it was one of the best servings I have ever had. We are very excited to come back and try other dishes such as moo shu and chow mai fun. Finally, we have found a great Chinese restaurant without having to drive all the way to Philly. Service was very friendly and very swift. Again… we cant wait to come back!

Yeah, my love affair with this place is over now. We’ve been loyal customers for years and gave them chance after chance even after the quality started to noticeably slip. See my previous reviews for more info. Our most recent visit this weekend was kind of the last straw. The beef chow ho fun was disappointing; the beef itself was good but not very plentiful. The noodles were too sticky and many were stuck together in large clumps. The sweet and sour chicken was really unpleasantly dry and overcooked. This happened the time before as well; to me that means it’s the norm here. My verdict is that they’re not terrible but not really good either. Dry chicken and lumpy noodles aren’t that bad, when you consider the average quality of most cheap Chinese takeout joints. This place, once a diamond in the rough, is now just another face in a greasy mediocre crowd. My real complaint is that this place was supposed to be better than the rest. Due to their lax quality control, we now lack a decent Chinese takeout in Woodbury.

Been here serval times, both staying in and getting take-out, since moving to town. Haven’t had any negative experiences, yet. Food’s always been pleasant, as well add the owners and servers. Variety of food available is nice. Only thing that would make me like it more is if they delivered.

Surrounded by Dollar Stores, fast food, Goodwill, and lots of crumbling weedy pavement sits this rather unassuming, slightly scary looking original diner car. It’s not much to look at, and definitely not in a high –end kind of town. Hiding inside this lithe place is some pretty darn good Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. It’s proof that you should not always judge a book by its’ cover. This is one of the Queen Mother and the Patriarch’s favorite S. Jersey places, though they only know it as «The Chinese Diner on 45». They are not big on names, those two. They, Faithful Dining Companion and I headed over there for an early dinner. We were greeted and seated promptly. The place has a lot of the feel of the old diner it once was, with stainless steel and recessed ceiling lighting. There are booths and also tables, and around the side they have built an addition that has larger tables for groups oaf 6 or 8 or more. Drink orders were taken quickly. One order was for iced tea, and we were asked«Sweet or unsweet?» What? In Jersey? Oh, could it be? So, sweet was ordered. A can of Lipton with lemon was delivered with a glass full of ice. *sigh* There is a difference between ‘sweetened’ and ‘sweet’, people. Orders were then promptly taken, and we had a variety — one Miso Soup(also very good), one Cold Noodle Salad(awesome), one order of steamed dumplings(OK) along with a ginger salad(meh) were produced first. Then, entrees — one Pad Thai(very good), one General Tso’s(very good), one steamed chicken and vegetables(someone is on Weight Watchers) and one Cashew Chicken(good, if slightly overdone). On the whole, very good food. Service was uneven. At some times plates were cleared promptly and water refilled, then at other times glasses went empty and plates sat. We seemed to have 1 ¾ servers, which was a little confusing. Overall, a solid 4 star place, a bright spot in a sea of boring chain food. We’ll be back.

I was looking for an local alternative sushi place other than our usual go to around town and ended up here. The place itself wasn’t that appealing. It was an old converted diner. I just felt like everything around me could be cleaner. The food was not great either. The corn egg soup was bland. The sushi was not flavorful. There’s a better option in town. Keep on moving.

I won’t go anywhere else for my chicken and broccoli! My bf always gets the tuna rolls and sometimes shrimp fried rice! Everyone is pleasant we always place pick up orders and for 5 years now they have never gotten our order wrong! You see what they do is repeat it back to you so you have the option to agree or change what you’ve ordered! It doesn’t matter who answers the phone or rings you up everyone is professional and happy to hear from you or see you as you walk through the door!!! The food is amazing and still hot by the time you get it home! The different sauces are savory and the broccoli is always cooked to perfection! Occasionally I will get the Chicken Lo Mein no vegetables and I’ll tell you it’s heaven in a carton! LOVETHISRESTAURANT!!!

4.5 stars. I live in the city and I’m a Chinatown regular. This is as good as it gets outside of Philly. It’s always consistent, which I can say lacks in Chinatown. I love the Dragon and Phoenix here.
