One night last week during the extreme cold snap, my girlfriend’s car decided to destroy the rear differential and she needed a tow. I called Verizon when I met her and they dispatched International to tow us with an ETA of 80 minutes. We waited in the bitter cold for FOUR HOURS before the driver finally called and said we could leave the car to be transported.
An hour and a half after that we got a call from the driver telling us the car had been delivered and that he could not find the dealers drop box for the keys. He instead hid them under the passengers side mat.
We called the dealership in the morning to see what was wrong with the car. They told us they had no such car on their lot. After no less than 6 phonecalls we figured out that the driver had dropped the car off at the wrong address next to the dealership. The shop blamed us for the mix up even though I gave the dealership’s address (located in both google maps and their website) to both my dispatcher and the driver. I even went so far as to tell him that you are bringing the car, a KIA, to a KIA DEALERSHIP. Of course this is somehow my fault though.
After that no one could find the keys. The driver insisted they were under the floor mat as we had discussed. They were eventually found under the floor mat shoved up underneath the dashboard.
Once the service team at the dealership was able to locate the car, and then locate the key, they found the battery had been completely drained and the car couldn’t even be jump started. Once they replaced the battery, they saw the emergency flashers and headlights had been left on.
I called international and told them the driver had left the lights on in the car and had caused the battery to fail and that I expected them to make good on his mistake by paying for the battery replacement. Frankie, the towing manager, told me he would not do anything of the sort. He told me that because the battery died after they had left the car and it was no longer in their possession it couldn’t be their fault and they would not replace it. I tried to explain to Frankie that there wasn’t a world in which what he said made any sense, but alas, I could not get through to him.
Since then multiple calls to the shop to speak to the owner or Frankie’s supervisor have met with «this person does not have a voicemail box that has been setup», lots of «he will be back on X day», and one time we called and instead of hello we got «WHAT UP MY NIGGA!!!».
I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Verizon. Hopefully I will get somewhere there. Next step is Channel 3 and small claims court.
I will update this with any resolution positive or negative.
