The other reservoir Reservoir #6 is part of the West Hartford Reservoir system but is located on the other side of Rt 44 and away from the other five lakes and hiking trails. It’s frequently just called«the other reservoir» by people that hike the area. You can walk or bike to reservoir #6 from the other lakes but it requires trying to cross Rt 44, which is suicidal at the best of times. So most people just drive to #6. There is a decent sized parking lot and a three and a half mile hike around the reservoir. Dogs are allowed if they are kept on a leash and lots of walkers and mountain bikers use this area. Certain paths are off limits to bikes but there’s plenty to go around. Some portable bathrooms are present and at the very north end of the reservoir is a connection to the Metacomet Trail and access up to Heublein Tower. Some very challenging, tough and steep mountain biking can be found on some of these trails. The area offers a lot of options, from a quiet stroll around the reservoir to some brutally difficult cross country skiing or mountain biking riding. A lovely place any time of the year.
