When I first walked in, I noticed all the locals. I’m a backpacker and journalist, but always get stared at. This was no different. Nevertheless, I took a seat and the server/co-owner got me a coffee and gave me the menu. The place was not full, but still busy. After the locals got used to my big backpack and ponytail, they lost interest in me. My point is, be prepared to see the regular crowd in this small MA town. I ordered an omelette with ham, sausage, bacon, and cheddar cheese. It was giant, came with homefries, and was quite delicious – and very filling, which I needed. the server/owner was a bit frazzled having to do everything herself, and forgot my OJ. But it was okay. I understood. I reminded her and it arrived shortly after. This is diner food after all. don’t expect sprigs of parsley garnishes. I needed fat and protein calories, and they obliged. She asked me if I wanted more coffee, and made sure to check in on me regularly – as with all the patrons. A gentleman(obviously a regular) walked in with his very young daughter, and the server/owner paid special attention to the girl, who ordered blueberry pancakes. It was nice to see this familiarity. The little girl was happy and had a nice breakfast with her papa. I had to leave right after eating. But, I would go back if I was ever in this part of MA again. Stop in for breakfast. It is worth it. The prices are good and the food is excellent.

Tim 5 star Double D’s Diner is summed up in 2 words. Comfort Food. I feel like I“m at home with my Mother cooking breakfast and lunch. As much as can be made from scratch is homemade recipes. Lunch specials every day, like Turkey dinner with all the fixings And much more. Outrageously Delicious. This is a must go to Restaurant to put on your list. Family owned and customers are made to feel like extended Family. Low prices and HUGE Portions. Plenty of spacious parking also. What more can I say. Like Nike say’s Just Do It. Go ASAP. Don’t forget to like, share and comment.

Half of our silverware was dirty! Waitresses were friendly but either spacing out or they need to hire more help because it was almost impossible to get refills on coffee. Also there was a tomato in my friend’s water! If you are a grandpa who likes bad diner food maybe you’ll like it but there are so many better diner places nearby! Not cheap enough to warrant the scuzziness. Double D’s please step it up!

Not too many places to eat out here and this was suggested by co-workers. Service was speedy once we were given out menus(which took 5 minutes). After placing our orders, the food was ready in 3 or 4 minutes. Being from the South, I decided go try their daily special thinking it might be a New England specialty. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The meatloaf was okay but I had to add ketchup to get some taste. And the mashed potatoes and gravy had absolutely no taste. None. Zero even with salt and pepper added. No one else complained so I assume they liked their meal. Two folks got cherry pie and said it was good. If I return to the area, I’m going to keep going up North 5 to the sandwich shop in a grocery store.

We rolled up at 12:25 on a Sunday afternoon; the parking lot full, and we were filled with anticipation. The big sign on the door said«Closed.» I jumped out to see what the operating hours were: Sundays until 1:00. Inside the place is packed and hopping. Shrug. I jumped back in the car and as we started to back up, a hand reached into the window and flipped the sign to «Open.» Huh? We rolled back into the parking spot, and my GF started to get out of the car. «Wait a second,» I say. «Maybe they’re gonna flip it back when they see we’re still here.» The sign stays on «Open,» and we walk in to what is obviously an authentic«beloved local spot,» and a raging battle between the waitress and the cook, husband and wife. He, ranging out from behind the counter after shouting«Order up!,» to flip the sign to «Closed,» and she, dishing out flapjacks and sausage to the table in the corner and flipping the sign back to «Open» as she heads back to the counter to grab the coffee pot. We sit at a couple of stools in the middle of the counter. I start to fall back as the stool lurches precariously back. «It’s OK, it’s old. We tighten them every day…,» she says, «so now you’re aware.» Yes, I was aware. Aware of a pretty blonde girl standing directly in front of an older couple at the counter, shouting«More coffee, hun?» «Heh?» «I said, Would you like more coffee?» Louder yet, «How did you like your meal?» Aware that this little spot is unlike many others I’ve visited; it’s got… a down home, how you say… savoir faire. This is a place where everybody really does know your name. A place where everyone who was here — other than us — had obviously set out to be here. They weren’t just driving by. They came here. And they come here, regularly. The food? I had a Grilled Ham and Cheese with chips and the GF asked for a Turkey, Lettuce and Tomato on toasted wheat. The waitress came back and said, «We’re out of turkey but we have a great homemade chicken salad,» and she jumped at that. I wish she told me that the ham on the sandwich wasn’t sliced from the big ham up on the cook’s counter. Apparently, that’s for the Eggs Benedict, which looked amazing. My sandwich was OK, the GF’s was very good. There’s no fry-o-later on Sundays, so don’t look for chicken or french fries. No soup either. Breakfast is served until closing on Sunday… whenever that might actually be. The pancakes looked great. The sausage links and eggs looked great. Clearly, on Sundays, this place is 99.9% about breakfast. We’ll be back for breakfast on another day, and I’ll adjust the star rating at that time. Based on the experience and atmosphere, I’m a fan. Assuming the breakfast is as good as the ambiance, it’ll be an easy 5.
