This place is already closed. On Unilocal it says open so I went there but find out it close down already.

Tucked in a random strip mall, doesn’t look like much but wow. Soup dumplings are excellent. Haven’t had them this good since a trip to Shanghai, and then Yank Sing in San Francisco stateside. Other entrees are also excellent. Crispy chicken is a winner. Hot and sour soup is medicinal. Owner is lovely. If you’re not Asian, expect to be the only non-Asian there(an excellent endorsement imho).

Update. I’m not sure if there was an ownership change or if the owner has simply lost interest in this location. The quality of food and service has continued to decline over the past several years and we have stopped eating here entirely.

This hole in the wall is nestled in a strip mall and is not to be missed! Don’t let the interior fool you– this place has beyond delicious food. While my palette might not be able to taste the difference between legit Chinese food and the more«American» place around the corner from me, Hao Si Chuan makes it far, far better. Galaxies apart in flavor and variety. The waitstaff is kind, efficient, and knowledgable. Many Chinese places run the spectrum on their tofu preparation. This place does it just right. Their seared tofu was firm and almost crispy, without being overwhelming. Flavorful and complimentary to the vegetables in the dish. We also tried a special with fried frog. Not frog legs– FROG. While it does adhere to the«tastes just like chicken» it was juicy and balanced in spice, making it a worthwhile«chicken» dish. Most importantly, I have been dreaming about the spicy bamboo shoots since I visited here last week. After I devoured the appetizer, I poured the sauce on my rice(mainly to keep me from licking the plate!) I have not shut up about this place since. I have convinced a group of co-workers to try it and look forward to spreading the word further.

I haven’t had Chinese prepared food that tasted this good since I was in Beijing. It is so authentic and tastes nothing like the stuff Americans consider Chinese food. You won’t find fat laden, fried, and smothered General Tso’s Chicken or crappy Crab Ragoon on this menu. We ordered the Sichuan Bamboo Shoots(to die for) and the Bok Choy and Black Mushrooms(I’m a vegetarian). They even had a few dishes prepared with frog. It was all so tasty. If you want to try authentic Chinese food definitely check this place out. If you want to try fresh and amazingly tasty, out of the ordinary food, DEFINITELY check this place out. The restaurant was FULL and we were the only non-Chinese people in the place. That says a lot.

Wow. i read all the rave reviews and thought I’d give this restaurant a try. Among a few other dishes we ordered Shrimp Lo mein. Dont know how to describe other then to say it was the worst i’ve ever eaten. Not only was it tasteless, it had a nasty order. My girlfriend gave up after a few bites. Really disappointed.

This place is fantastic. Ordered a simple vegetable and noodle dish — this is usually boring but here there was a perfect hint of ginger that made it great. Then ordered the fish with brazed tofu. The sauce was a wonderful blend of chili peppers and cilantro. Really interesting dish to experience. Good value for the money, attentive waitstaff. I’ll be back.

Tried the pork soup dumplings that others recommended. They are good! We also tried the wonton soup and the prawns with garlic sauce. Both are delicious! I don’t know about how authentic Chinese this place is because I’m not Chinese but it was definitely worth the drive from Norwalk!

This place is serious! Hidden in a «shady» plaza between a liqueur store and a dollar store but oh my god it’s the best Chinese I’ve had outside of Chinatown. Try something different and authentic. Even a couple exotic menu items…

We love this place. Terrible décor(although that almost adds to the experience) but very friendly service and terrific Chinese food. Love the soup dumplings, salt and pepper shrimp, Ma Po tofu, and everything else was great too. Highly recommend.

Great authentic food. Not many of these in the area. All my Chinese students raved about this place, so I gave it a try and I have to say it’s probably the best Chinese in the area, especially for the money. The people there are very friendly and willing to tell you about the food. They know their stuff as far as ingredients and taste is concerned. Only drawback is that the restaurant could use a makeover, but I guess it can be construed as «hole in the wall(secret)» charm.

I’ll start this off simply, BESTAUTHENTICCHINESEFOODEVER. I was on my way to an appt at 7, popped in to see if the place was legit. 2 and a half hrs later, I had canceled my appt and was so competely stuffed with amazing food I was worried I wouldn’t be able to leave.(Not that being stuck here would be bad in any capacity). Soup Dumplings, People. Dumplings filled with Soup. Out of control.

A very nice Chinese restaurant!!! Food are always delicious, not that spicy, and you can never go wrong. I dine there at least twice a week. Waitress are very helpful. Not pricy, do not limit the number of credit cards, neither«cash only». So highly recommend!!!

Incredible food. All traditional. Come and let them take you away to a different land. You will leave Boston Post and have an out of body experience to Asia. I am not kidding when I say that. I have been to this place 4 – 5 times with friends(sometimes Asian sometimes all white groups) and each time we order a smorgabord of foods so that we can try different things. Everything I have tried here as been quite awesome. Sure, you can get nice atmosphere and better table cloths somewhere else but the food is legit and yumtastic!

Finally… a local place to go to for soup dumplings and other hard to find authentic Chinese dishes! You can find pork blood, pork intestine, ox tongue, rabbit, and frog legs. While we had none of those tonight, we now know where to find them. Lol. In addition to soup dumplings, we had steamed whole fish, baby squid with bamboo and mushrooms, and Sichuan spicy watery beef. We cleaned our plates and plan on coming back for more. Oh… another place we recommend is CN Station Restaurant on Wood Ave in Bridgeport.

My search for the authentic Chinese restaurant in the Greater New Haven area ended a few nights ago when my family and I dined here. Felt very assured to enter this restaurant by seeing many Chinese clients, greeted warmly by two waitresses. Very happy to read the menu of the dishes with freshly prepared food, unlike prepared sauce and precooked fried stuffs you encounter at the American/Psudo-Chinese restuaurants. The Squid dish, Ginger Scallion Fish, Shrimp Lomain, Scallion Pancake, and Pork Buns were just perfect. We are happy to find this place, thanks to the Unilocal, and no longer need to drive to NYC or Boston for the authentic Chinese restuarant, and wonderful Szechuan Food.

This is the place to go for authentic Chinese food. Both times I’ve been here, there were only Chinese people here. If you pause and listen, you’ll hear only Chinese spoken at points. That is a sign of really good and authentic Chinese food. The dishes are spicy and out of this world delish.

This is one of my favorite Szechuan restaurants, and definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in the New Haven area. I have been there countless times, and I have been extremely satisfied with almost everything. Here are some of the things that I’ve found myself ordering the most frequently: 1) Chengdu spicy chicken, which is fried with chilis, longhorn green peppers, and szechuan peppercorns. If you like flavorful, spicy food, this is the dish for you! 2) Szechuan(steamed) wontons as an appetizer– the slightly sweet and spicy sauce is delicious. 3) Dry and spicy chicken– very similar to Chengdu spicy chicken, but also delicious. The chicken with pickled chilis was good, but not amazing– the texture of the chicken dish was not my favorite. Also, the soup dumplings are very tasty but very small, so there really isn’t much«soup» in them. The Bong Bong chicken is a boiled, shredded chicken appetizer, served cold, in a peanuty chili oil sauce– the sauce was great, but the chicken was a little gristly. Overall, this is a great place with very reasonable prices, and I would recommend it to anyone!

We were in the mood for falafel but opted for Asian cuisine… The restaurant is small but cozy. The staff was attentive, even though the waitress made an error & gave my wife shrimp & broccoli instead of the shredded pork with garlic. The spring rolls were excellent & wasn’t at all greasy, the string beans was too salty for my taste. My Queen enjoyed the shredded pork with garlic, she had no complaints besides the previously stated error. i had the broccoli with shrimp & veggies. Overall, the meal was ok, i was disappointed with the shrimp which was definitely popcorn shrimp…

Yum! A couple friends and I were craving soup dumplings so we did a quick Unilocal search and found this place. We walked into a pretty empty restaurant on a Friday evening and were promptly seated. We asked for a few orders of soup dumplings and the two boys ordered the roast duck chicken noodle soup and I asked for wonton noodle soup and we all stuck with water as our beverage. The soup dumplings were served in a bamboo steam basket on top of a sheet of wax paper instead of chopped cabbage, which disappointed me a little since I like to eat the cabbage. However, they were really good. None of them were ripped/broken, and they were all really uniformly sized and shaped. The skin was a bit thicker than I prefer, but mostly just in the area where the top is pinched together. The filling was savory and soupy and delicious and they had that typical soy/vinegar sauce to drizzle into the dumplings. I asked for hot oil(love) and I added some of that to my dumplings as well. The two different soups we had were really delicious too. The broth was flavored really nicely, although it was a bit greasy for my taste, and we all fell in love with the noodles in the soup. The boys’ duck soup had a generous portion of duck and my wonton soup had a generous portion of wontons. The dishes were pretty huge and we ended up asking to have our leftover soup wrapped up to go. The girl asked, «Do you want it all together?» and we responded, «Yeah, you can put it in one bag.» However, I guess they misunderstood, because what happened was that they just distributed all of our soups into a few containers and mixed them up so I had some duck mixed into my soup. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and now we know where to go when we’re in the mood for soup dumplings!
