This is the branch location of the original Daiko /Jerry-san’s Sushi, which has a reputation for good fish. The«Jerry-san» in the name is Jerry Ting. My partner and I went for a quick dinner last week. The place on a weekday night was literally empty at 8:30 pm, although I have to admit we were coming in fairly late. The sushi came out fairly quickly. My partner got the sushi plate and I got the nigiri plate. Everything was fresh made, so it took around 20 minutes for our order to come out. My partner opted for the salad which was nice and crispy. I got the miso soup which was standard Japanese restaurant fare(ie., not as good as my mom’s). The fish in the sushi wasn’t bad, but it was obviously frozen and not super fresh. The rice was on the hard side and a bit chewy. Everything being said, though, the price wasn’t bad — around $ 35 pre-tip for dinner for two with one bottle of beer split between us. The sushi was fine — not the best we’ve ever had in the USA — but certainly not as bad as the cardboard sushi you get in places such as StopnShop and Trader Joe’s. There’s a good review in the New York Times from someone who hasn’t had mouthwateringly fresh sushi just off the boat. p. s. This sushi restaurant replaces the old Fujiyamama which used to be in this location. p. p. s. I’m Japanese and grew up in Japan, so calibrate my sushi tastes accordingly.
