Plaisir Café hosted the launch event for an app called«Where My Dogs At» which allows you to find dog-friendly restaurants and cafes. As a dog owner, I’m always looking for places to bring my little friend so Plaisir Café already gets points for allowing dogs on their patio. Since I was here on a special occasion, my experience may be deviate from the norm and my review is only based on what I tried. Plaisir serves a smooth, light roast coffee which pairs well with their delicious macarons… I tried mint and chip, vanilla bean, coffee, and salty caramel flavors. My favorites were the salty caramel and the mint and chip. Relative to other macarons I’ve tried(at many places… it’s one of the few sweets I actually like), their«cookie» layers are on the low-density end of the spectrum… the texture is more crunchy and melty than chewy. The result is a seemingly delicate macaron and I could probably scarf down 10 of them in one sitting. Good or bad? You decide… If i’m in the neighborhood, I’ll probably stop by again, most likely to try their delicious looking crepes and belgian waffles. Hope to see you and your pup there!

The waffle was underwhelming. I can make better belgian waffles at home. The service was incredibly slow, and given that there were only five of us there, we were all amazed that our orders kept getting messed up. The lattes and mochas were bleh. For $ 9, I got a waffle with a bit of strawberries and bananas. And we noticed while we were waiting that they had to run out to Trader Joe’s next door to buy supplies… did they really run out of supplies while making food for just five people? On a Sat morning?! Also the baked goods in the display looked like they had been sitting there for a while. Yikes, no thanks.

Whatta letdown. I literally come bounding in here on Monday afternoon and there’s not a cream puff in sight, and these are my choices for dessert that’s not a waffle or a crêpe: –fruit tart –hazelnut cake –macarons, of a selection of about 4 flavors –almond filled croissant. I read my Unilocal reviews before coming in, so I say, «Do you have red velvet?» No. «Do you have ice cream?» No. One star for hassle free parking in the back and one for the nice girl working that sad little shop.

Plaisir was super disorganized upon opening on the Sunday we went, and the service was very slow and scattered. I ordered a crêpe which was quite nice, and then I felt like trying their«authentic Parisian desserts» so I ordered a Napoleon and one Profiterole, or(cream puff as they say here in America.) Sadly this was the worst Napoleon I have ever had. It tasted about six days old, as I know Napoleons very well(they’re one of my favorite desserts.) The crust was soggy, which means it had been in the fridge for days, and the cream filling hard, which means it was also days old and not fresh. The cream puff was 1.50, very small, and covered with very artificial icing. For 2 dollars at Beard Papa, you can get a cream puff four times the size which is so fresh it’s made that day and the cream is inserted right before you eat it! For any of you seeking authentic Parisian pastries, this is NOT the place! The best cream puffs you will EVER have are at Beard Papa’s. P. S. I gave two stars instead of one because the crêpe I ordered was moist and flavorful.

This place is Euro-fabulous! The décor is modern and sweet. We sat at the large square high table and used the free WiFi. Even have satellite French radio going =) No offense, Oprah, but the cream puffs are not their best offering. Tried 5 flavors – all VERY yummy but not awe-inspiring. The Turkey and Brie with sundried tomatoes was AMAZING. I recommend it on a flaky French baguette because you get a portion large enough to take half home for dinner! Even the side house salad was fantastic. My friend raved about the Greek Salad. Our cappuccinos were lovely, and the gorgeous Frenchman behind the counter gave us two mini pastries for free =) I should have gotten the Supreme Nutella Crêpe(which you can add to your meal for $ 4.95) because the birthday cake ice cream was freeze-dried and decidedly not lovely… Supposedly, there is free parking upstairs at Trader Joe’s, but when we went in there after, the cashier asked if I needed validation.(This was a Sunday, so we parked for free on the street.) Overall, great little spot. We will return for coffee and lunch soon.

I came here because my Living Social voucher was about to expire. It was a nice breakfast spot since we didn’t want to wait a long time to be seated at another brunch spot. Overall, service(4 stars) was quick, and everyone was nice. I should have ordered a hot coffee because my iced mocha(2 stars) tasted a bit watered down and wasn’t too strong. The chocolate croissant(4 stars) didn’t have the traditional chocolate batons but was filled with mini chocolate chips. So there was a little chocolate in every bite. My boyfriend ordered the banana nuttella waffle(3 stars). Of course, it tasted good masked with sweet goodness. However, I think it would not have been as great without the toppings. I also tried the banana nutella crêpe(4 stars). The filling to crêpe ratio was just right. The texture of the crêpe was thin and similar to the French Crêpe Company at the Farmer’s Market. We couldn’t leave without trying the much raved about cream puffs. The pâté a choux was perfect in texture, and the cream was light more like a diplomat cream instead of typical pastry cream. The vanilla(5 stars) and marshmallow(4 stars) were my favorites and tasted very similar. I’m not a huge fan of irish cream flavor, but Plaisir successfully made the flavor subtle yet likable for my palate(3 stars). The cheesecake(2 stars) flavor was too sweet. The cream puffs are colorful, and there are different flavors daily. My only complaint is the size because they’re bite size at $ 1.50 each. On Groupon Now, they usually have a $ 12 for $ 20 groupon available. It’s worth a try. The pastry display was quite tempting that I’m surprised that I didn’t leave with a slice of a tart or some cake.

Pleasure is right! I have a confession: I did not actually go INTO the restaurant/bakery, I ordered online. Please be assured this was the best possible thing I could have done or I’d still be there eating. I found them on a delivery website, I’d never heard of them before, but French food sounded delicious for lunch. I was really wanting a sandwich and the turkey/brie stood out so I bit. Heh. I also noticed Quiche Lorraine and ordered some of that as well. I then saw the Croque Monsieur, and struggled over whether to order that or not, but calories won out over gorging so I stuck with my first choices. The only thing I regret, is not ordering the whole quiche. And the Croque Monsieur. The food is delivered by this handsome man carrying a beautiful white shopping bag filled with pink boxes that hold the heavenly goods. It was almost like out of a movie. I was starstruck(the first time ever here in WeHo). All I can say is, don’t look at the prices, they can seem high until you look at what you get then you realize that you deserve the best as you faceplant into the food. Next time I’m ordering all of the above AND dessert. I’m not looking for a boyfriend in L.A. anyway.

This place deserves 5 stars for offering a super generous discount to 24 Hour Fitness members(24% off!), but the fact that sweaty and starving we waited ages for a simple order in an uncrowded café means I have to hack off a star. Sorry! Other than the wait, the food was awesome– a fresh waffle loaded with toppings and an melty, savory croque monsieur. MUCH better than the meh crêpe place down the street and their crappy ham! Portions aren’t monstrous, but for the price they were great and the boy and I left feeling very satisfied. The total bill(after the discount) was under $ 20 for two meals and a double espresso. Try beating that on a nice spring day in the ‘Ho.

My Plaisir experience was alright though there was really good reviews about this place on Unilocal. Located in West Hollywood, this place is a cute dessert place. Very hippie! I tried Belgian waffle, the nutella with some icecream crepes, and got a free crème puffs from the owner. Yay. Well, the staff is very nice! Very very friendly! For me, the crepes and waffle we tried was pretty plain and a little Frenchy …

Plaisir, dear, how do I love thee? Let me [re]count the ways… Pastry without pretense, atmosphere without attitude, style coexisting in perfect harmony with substance, yumminess — and yes, please may I have some more, sir? Oui, my love, Plaisir is all this and more, so honey, pick your hot ass off the floor and get thee to Plaisir’s door — at a brisk walk or run, with expectations set to STUN. Plaisir is nowhere near Paris and is in fact hunkered down ground zero along the sluttiest avenue of WeWhore, but you’ll forget all that(not for long, I hope) the moment you walk across its deliciously inviting threshold. It’s another world, beneath a happier sun, dearest one. Leave your Euros at home unless they’re the human kind who populate the plot of your porn at home(you kinky b! tch ;-P), and bring your American dollars — and not a lot! – because Plaisir is surprisingly, incongruously inexpensive vis-a-vis its deliciousnessosity, mon amie. Cakes, crepes, tarts, cookies — so many sweets, and savories too for breakfast and lunch. Service is beautiful in every way — Plaisir is perfection for a quick snack or an epic sit-down feast. So laid back; a fun and casual, no pressure environment — sit outside in the sun as you finish that éclair before the chocolate icing melts. Every day is lazy Sunday within this gem’s lovely sphere of sinfluence. Not a typo, sweetheart — be bad, So bad… Bring your appetite or sweet tooth — you’ll be satisfied so hardcore you’ll be sore for days. What were we talking about again? Oh yes. Porn. And Plaisir — SOOOOO good. Especially when you participate.

I think this is the first time I’ve been in a French bakery/dessert place that was actually owned and run by French people. That definitely lends a bit of legitimacy. My French Canadian was on hand for this French experience, and together we really enjoyed our brief stint here. I followed Unilocaler Jenny S.‘s parking suggestions and took a spot in Trader Joe’s for an hour to check this place out: P My friend had a quiche and she said it was quite good. I ordered the Crêpe Nutella and Banana, and it was one of the best dessert crepes I’ve had. A lot of care and skill was definitely applied in its making, and the quality of the culinary experience would not go unappreciated. I love how they have iPod Nanos and headphones at the counter for your sampling pleasure! So unique. Next time, I want to try their crème puffs!

I worked at the Orange County Fair for two summers before college. I sold cream puffs one year and both cream puffs and burgers the next year. I enjoyed watching the people, but I opened my eyes to fair food. Foodstuffs like cream puffs are safe. Don’t eat the burgers, turkey legs, etcetera. Maybe the burgers; the only problem with the burgers was the debris around the truck, but turkey legs require a lot of heating that can’t be done properly on the fairgrounds. Anyways, I never like cream puffs. There are two types of cream that I’ve seen used. We used whipping cream in different flavors. There’s also custardy types, almost like Bavarian cream. I changed my mind at Plaisir LA. I like cream puffs especially when they’re small and the cream has the consistency of whipped cream but more flavor yet not so sweet. I ordered the best of both worlds, a cupcake with a cream puff on top. The cream puff: amazing. The cupcake, however, was the opposite: tasteless and dense. I wish I got more cream puffs instead. Oh yeah, I met Philippe Dray! :)

Dear Plaisir, I love how you pay attention to all the details to make sure each customer really«enjoys the PLEASURE of food»! FIRST of all delicious desserts, SECOND you provide ipods for lonesome customers to listen to, THIRD you rotate your ice cream flavors so that customers don’t get bored, FOURTH you have cute outdoor seating, FIFTH Philippe the french pastry chef is just so nice! after gawking at the entire bakery, i gathered myself to order! sampled the pineapple upside down ice cream which was yummy, as were the FLUFFY and light, iced –chocolate and vanilla cream puffs, one of his specialties. I loved the chocolate one! i bought their chocolate fondant cake, rich and melty goodness, although its more cream than it is cake. and I also got a pastry that had two cream puffs on each end, orange cream in the middle and chocolate shavings. not sure what to call it, but it was good too! PARKING there is free 1 hour parking in the trader joe’s parking lot BUT if it is before 9 am park on the street because plaisir opens at 8 am while trader joe’s doesn’t open until 9 am!

Passionate, Elegant, Trendy, Love, Care, Cozy, Sexy, … Scrumdelicious These are the words that comes in my mind when I think of Plaisir. When I first tasted Pastry Chef Philippe’s «Plaisir»… I loved it so much… to the point where I had to hunt him down all the way from Bev Hills Café Flore to West Hollywood Plaisir to try them again. The cute cozy Plaisir café is a perfect date spot for brunch/lunch before watching the movie down at the grove. Or filling up your stomach after a shopping spree with your girlfriends in sunset. Either way, kind loving Philippe will always greet you and provide all the love and care you need to feel extra special!

Oh Phillipe, you were so kind to me, and I would give YOU five stars, but I’m afraid my first experience with your food was just so-so. How about 3.5 stars for now, and I will upgrade it if I am impressed on my next visit. And with how adorable your bake shop is and how even MORE adorable you are, that shouldn’t be hard to do. FOOD: The mini chocolate crème puff that Phillipe gave me to sample was pretty good. Definitely one of the best crème puffs I had. Unfortunately, and I don’t mean to be b*tchy in saying this, but I’ve just never developed a taste for crème puffs, so while I’m sure it was better than what you can get at a supermarket, I didn’t get the foodgasm that every other Unilocal!er seems to be having with this place. I came here to grab a quick lunch, and a quick lunch I did get — my spinach quiche and strawberry salad(I originally wanted the mushroom quiche but they were out) were ready on the double. Verdict on the quiche — sadly, just meh. I mean it was SOPRETTY to look at — my photograph is what it looked like out of the takeout-box. I’ve never seen a more decorative takeout meal. However, the quiche itself was rather bland and the biggest offense was the too-doughy crust — for me quiche crust is supposed to be just thick enough to support the savory egg custard, and definitely more flaky than doughy. The crust of that quiche was so thick I could literally pick up my quiche and eat it like a slice of pizza — which in fact is what I ended up doing because I was eating on the go. I was so excited about my salad, with its fresh herbal greens and gorgeous ruby red strawberries and candied pecans, but it is with deep regret that I must also report that as underwhelming. The strawberries were soaked in the balsamic vinegar dressing for WAAAAY too long — they were so sour when I was eating them with the salad that I had to render most of the salad inedible. After all, running around with my lips puckered and my cheeks sucked in all day is not attractive. AMBIENCE: Is cute. Very colorful. VERYWESTHOLLYWOOD. From the HAWT gay servers to the rainbow assortment of crème puffs to the trans-y club music that’s ALWAYS playing in the background, this place officially made the leap from being ultra metro to being a straight-up gayborhood regular. And you know what… I LOVEIT. Because everyone there is SONICE! And fun!!! And friendly! Which is why I want to go back and give them another try — I will research what to order so that I do a better job with my food selection next time. PRICES: Well, when in Rome, do as the Romans do. So when in the gayborhood, pay like your richer, sexier, skinnier gaybors pay. My meal was about $ 13. Not a great value for lunch, but I think I might have better luck with their desserts, as the red velvet cake with pecans on the frosting did look quite enticing… PARKING: I believe you can park in the complex outside of Trader Joes(up the block) and receive validation from Plaisir. At least that’s what I did. Yay for easy parking in WeHo! So fear not Philippe, I was impressed that you had me enjoy the one dessert that I usually shy away from, so I can’t wait to try your other desserts that I KNOW I would look forward to. I’ll shall return Monsieur…

Should one feel guilty after eating a healthy lunch, then splurging with sweet and rich desserts? Whatever the answer may be, my friend and I splurged after our healthy meal at Tender Greens and made our way to Plaisir. Never being in this French bakery, I experienced a «wow factor» from the style of this place on my first visit. It’s very vibrant, sleek, stylish, and staffed with some fun and outgoing employees. After enjoying the interior design of Plaisir, we were ready to find out if we could enjoy their desserts. Without a doubt, I had to try their red velvet cake. This cake was in the case with the icing whipped around the entire cake with pecans throughout. In all my years of eating red velvet cake, I’ve never seen it adorned with pecans. Surprisingly, the red velvet cake looked much better than it tasted, probably owing to the fact that I was given the last slice from another platter. My slice was a little dry but I’m sure if it was moist, the cake would’ve been very good, as the icing was quite pleasing. Another surprising moment was when I told the owner about my slice, after I’d eaten it, and he apologized and offered me another slice. I didn’t have room for another slice but thanked him for the kind gesture. The owner, Mr. Salva, is truly one-of-a-kind. He welcomed us into his bakery, and was very professional, yet down-to-earth and cordial. I won’t forget how he almost insisted that I get another slice of cake after I informed him my slice was a little dry. He really wants customer satisfaction from all of his customers. I will have to come back to this bakery to try their crêpes and more of their desserts. Given the attentive and favorable service, I’m giving an extra star to Plaisir, and I plan to return as I’m sure this place can prove they’re worth 5 stars!

I was walking to the gym(irony) and realized that I was starving, but didn’t want to eat and then workout. I needed something little, and planned to pop into Trader Joe’s and grab a powerbar or something. But walking by Plaisir, I couldn’t help myself… decided that it was time to give it a try. Walked in and was greeted promptly and warmly by the two men working inside. Whoa. That’s not West Hollywood. LOL. They were patient and smiled as I chose a lemon bar, and I actually thought I misheard that it was only $ 1.95. Okay, so Bakesale Betty’s in Oakland still has the best lemon bars ever. But that’s 500 miles away, and that’s like someone comparing every outdoor concert to Woodstock. Not really giving anyone a fair chance. It was, in fact, delicious… and a nice setting… with friendly people… and not expensive. I’m a fan… :-)

I was walking down Santa Monica blvd and came into this great little bakery last weekend. I met the Pastry Chef Philippe Dray and talked to him about his bakery. Phillippe is a frenchman with a knack for making some amazing sweets! His french bakery«Plaisir» sells crepes, cakes, cheesecake, and gelato! He has an amazing chocolate torte dessert which is very soft, lush and smooth with its chocolate mousse filling. The cake itself is spongy and light. The chocolate chip cheesecake was very dense and rich. It was sweet, but not over the top sweet. Phillippe is a very nice guy and he has some of the best pastries in Los Angeles! If you are looking for a good pastry shop in the West Hollywood/Beverly Center area, make sure you check this place out!
