The place is adorable, however, the service(on two occasions, both brunch on a Sunday) is terrible. We had the same server both times, but it seems as if the problem lies in the kitchen. On the first visit, everyone else’s food came out expect mine. Once I notified the server, it took over 20 minutes for eggs benedict to come out of the kitchen. First of all, she should’ve noticed that I didn’t have any food in front of me while everyone else was eating. Secondly, it only takes about 4 minutes to poach an egg, 20 – 25 minutes seemed like an excessively long time to «make it right». On the second visit, our server took a pretty long time to come to our table to greet us despite the fact that there was hardly anyone there at Noon on this particular Sunday. We waited about 45 minutes for our food, which was french toast, bacon(overcooked) and an over easy egg. Again, there was NOBODY in the place! Our server never checked on us after she put our order in. I had to flag her down two times to ask where our food was. When it was finally brought to us, it was nothing special. I like this place because of the atmosphere, enough so that I am going to give it one more shot before The Vreeland Store goes on my «list» as an establishment to which I will never return.

This place is great. The staff is so friendly and that’s just the start. Let’s talk about the food. I have gone a few times and I have loved everything I had. My first impression was the turkey sandwich– plain right? NOPE! It was awesome. The woman explained that the turkey is made in their kitchen. It’s not cold cut or dry from being frozen– you can tell how fresh it was. The avocado and gouda cheese(I changed it from the American it comes with) was delicious. Which reminds me– they have all these cheese options and bread options including gluten free. This place is a gem

A quaint, nice little place for a meal. I’ve been here for lunch and breakfast about a half dozen times and really enjoyed it. Nice omelets and sandwiches. My one time here for dinner was a bit uneven. I had gnocchi special in a Gorgonzola cream sauce. The toasted gnocchi was a nice touch, but the sauce was blah. My partner had a salmon special. The salmon was slightly over cooked with sweet coating that overpowered the fish. Not bad but not great. It was served with what was described as «mashed potatoes». They were actually smashed red potatoes with the skins. Not necessarily a bad thing, but definitely not true mashed potatoes. The potatoes were made with an unusual and unpleasant tasting herb. I like this place a lot. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is friendly, albeit at times slow. I was somewhat disappointed with the dinner but every breakfast and lunch I’ve had here has been outstanding. The bar has a small, but decent selection of craft beers. Definitely worth a stop for breakfast or lunch and perhaps your dinner may be better than ours was. If it was just for breakfast or lunch I’d give it 5 stars, but docking it a star thanks to our dinner here. I’ll be back again for dinner just to see if our experience was an outlier.

What a great quaint and homestyle location! Walk in and the wall décor is that of antiques from various moments in West Milford history with seating comprised of a mixture of tables, all antique in style of course. The staff friendly and prompt with a a bright and caring atmosphere all around. The food YUM! I partook in the«crabby benedict» which was quite tasty. The portion was a bit small and the eggs were good although not poached properly I ordered mine with smoked ham and it was yummy and tasty! My table mate ordered French toast with an extra side of bacon and by all accounts was good and filling, the extra side of bacon didn’t make it initially but when brought to the waitresses attention it was out in no time. If your a local you probably already know of this place to be yummy and servicing brunch to drinks it’s got to be a favorite spot. If your passing through or want something off the beaten path check this spot it!

Cute building & décor. Good but expensive product. Rude, slow employees who show outright disgust at the inconvenience of having to stop their conversation to serve a customer.

I’ll just keep it short since I really only really write reviews for places I love. This place has old school ambiance. I’ve been for breakfast, lunch, dinner and just to stop for a few drinks and a bite at the bar. Just love this place. Staff and owners are always helpful. Brunch is great. Check it out.

Got to spend the night in the Charles suite. The bed provided me with the best sleep I have in months. The cozy ambience takes you to a different place and time. The pastries are to die for, and the cappuccino was as good as any I have ever had. The staff made me not want to leave. I have never felt this welcomed. Thank you Fran. Will come back soon.

I local spot that features an eclectic mix of tapas and fresh baked goods. They offer alcoholic beverages as well as coffee and teas. You have to try the kitchen sink cookie– one of the best cookies I’ve ever had.

One of the best places around to grab a sandwich or for their tappas on the weekend. A gem hiding in plain sight.

This place has a ton of potential… there are a lot of great looking items on their menu, how ever the food is subpar and the service is not great.

Best thing to happen to West Milford in a long time! I’m so glad that it’s been successful and stayed open these past few years. When it first opened up I was ecstatic that a really cool and unique café opened up in town. West Milford needed something other than a bagel deli or a dive bar. This place has a unique charm and atmosphere that I’ve never experienced before. The décor and setup is rustic and elegant. The manager really harnessed the potential the old and abandoned house/inn had. The bakery is fantastic. The coffee(stumptown) excellent. The bar is great. And most of the time food is on point. Service has gotten better over the years. When it first started I kind of felt embarrassed bringing friends from out of town because we would be waiting to be served when there was no line and then wait for 10−15mins just for coffee. But as time as gone by service has gotten so much better, I’m very proud. Last Saturday night my friends and I visited and had some tapas and drinks. The waitress was so pleasant and chill! And even though she was bar tending and waiting other tables she still got us everything and more! She made our night I wish I remembered her name… The reasons why I didn’t give it 5 stars: my food selection– Mama’s meatball and pasta special and the beer on tap. Pasta was very wet and meatballs were bland. The beers on tap were all really gross… I like beer a lot and I tried all six(?) and they were not good… So I wish there was more craft selection other than Budweiser. However the mixed drinks are the bomb. Long Island iced teas here are great! those drinks made the night… I can’t wait to go again with more friends and have another memorable night!

So. I happen to share a surname with this establishment. Thought a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon with one of my daughters would be to pay a visit for a sandwich and some coffee. We arrived to find the café jammed. Nice to see on a crisp November midday. There was no guidance about finding a table(«Please seat yourself», «Please wait to be be seated»… whatever). We found a cramped table in a corner of the bar area. I have no issue with that… the place was rockin’. It took ten minutes for a server to come to ask what we’d like. «A menu?» I replied. Shortly thereafter, and after delivering two glasses of water and a coffee, she took our lunch order. We asked for a ham/smoked gouda panini and a chicken quesedilla. What’s a reasonable wait for a sandwich at 1:30 on a Sunday? When 40 minutes came and went, I asked our server to pack our order to go(we had budgeted an hour and 10 minutes before we had to be somewhere else). When two folks who came in ten minutes after we did were served sandwiches at the bar — and with our server still MIA — we walked out(after leaving $ 5 on the table for the really poor coffee). I was terribly disappointed in our experience. Yes, there are plenty of other reviews here on Unilocal and elsewhere that point out the serious service issues at The Vreeland Store, but that compliment the food. Alas, we didn’t even get to try a sandwich.

Love this place for so many reasons. The food is great and the atmosphere is inviting too. We have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. Food is fresh and they use REAL ingredients. Their menu is innovative and modern but unassuming. They have a variety of dishes and always have a vegetarian option. Their breakfasts are great too. Their café has awesome baked goods and the macarons are yummy! The service is great– fast and friendly. Oh– and their blood orange sangria is delish. This is our new favorite spot! It is a gem in an area with few options for people who want real, fresh food.

Had lunch here a couple of months ago. Ordered one of the specialty sandwiches, it was absolutely delicious. My wife also really enjoyed her meal as well. The restaurant itself was clean the décor appealing, add to that a friendly staff and I thoroughly recommend this little gem,

Great place to get together with friends and enjoy lighter fare. The menu is interesting, the baked products are homemade and delicious. The landmark building makes for a comfortable setting.

Excellent little place! Tables and seating are comfortable and Jim(our server) was very personable and helpful. Prices are $ 15 or less so we sampled a few items and everything was delicious. Jerk chicken tacos, crab cakes, green salad, shrimp tacos and sangria were excellent. The buffalo mac and cheese was too spicy in my opinion(and I like spicy foods) and you could not taste the cheese, so I would not order that again. Overall and great night with great food!

Stopped here for lunch with my fiancé after seeing some decent reviews on Unilocal. It sounded like a cool place for a laid-back meal. We were not disappointed. Inside has a great rustic feel to it, though it somehow looks modern at the same time. The bar is cool, seating area was nice too. I had my go-to, a Cuban sandwich. I am not exaggerating when I say it’s the best Cuban sandwich I’ve ever had. The bread was amazing, and it just tasted fantastic. My fiancé had the turkey avocado sandwich and she loved that too. We sampled a few of their desserts as well. Everything was just amazing. Even the coffee was awesome. We’re going to come up with every excuse to drive through West Milford from now on just so we can try the rest of the menu!

Dear Vreeland Store: I LOVEYOU… Because: 1. Your shop is super adorable and comfy 2. Service is fun and reliable 3. Your tapas nights are lovely, simple, on point 4. Drinks, classic and fun — no crazy mixology. 5. The way a weekend townie restaurant/café/bar/hang out should be 6. The diversified friendly crowd 7. SOCHILL — so COOL so UNASSUMING Thank you for not trying to be hipstery, over priced, new yorky, foodie, endless. Thank you for never being on a television a show, morning show, chef show, any show. Thank you for bringing back the good ol neighborhood restaurant. I wish you many years of success, and hope one day to return to your sweet town and enjoy your lovely café again! MUCHLOVE!

This place is great if you go in with the right expectations. It’s a small family owned and operated coffee shop and bakery by day, and a great little tapas dinner and bar location by night. The owner and her daughters are frequently hanging out with the patrons, and do much of the baking and cooking. So far every dinner I’ve had here has been excellent, very fresh, and acceptably priced. The building also has a great early century vibe to it in such a historic location and I love the atmosphere. Great for hanging out for a late night drinking with the locals! Probably the only complaints I have is that the service can be someone spotty and it can be a little packed at times, plus they’re cash only, but nothing really to keep me from coming back. ATM on the premises. EDIT: They now accept credit cards!
