We went to this restaurant on a sunday art dinner time. Even though the restaurant was not busy, the service was a little slow. The food was average at best and not worth the price.

I’ve been passing this place for years so we decided to have my mom’s 60th bday here and what a great choice it was. We had a reservation for 16 people and the waitress was wonderful and other waitresses and staff pitched in to keep us always with drinks and food we did not have to wait long for anything. To top it off a really good cover band came on around 8:30 and sang happy birthday to her! Thank you The Huntsman for making my mothers birthday a night to remember. We will definitely return.

Not very good. Being local, we have been coming here for years and have noticed a steady decline in the quality of the food as well as service. Tonight’s meal took forever to come out and when it did they forgot my wife’s burger which took an additional 20 minutes to prepare. Speaking of the burger it was tasteless aside from char. My father got calamari which was extremely rubbery. My mother ordered the beef and reef, they were out of scallops. My salmon dish was decent but swimming in oil. It will be quite awhile before we go back.

I really like this place. Menu is delicious and the specials are creative. The drink prices though are expensive. House cabernet double the price of other local places. We just moved to area but I wouldn’t go there to grab a couple rounds of drinks for a night out. Food is great

We went specifically to see the band on August 28th. The restaurant is small and almost every table was full. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We were served in a timely manner. Band was great. The food was fresh and good. We will return here.

Not a good experience. I sat unattended for at least 15 minutes until I had to get up and ask for a waitress. She came over and threw a menu on the table and copped an attitude from the beginning. I ordered a hamburger and she asked how I wanted it. .. I said«medium-rare». It took forever to get it. .. the burger was so overcooked and dried out I could barely eat it. she practically threw the plate on the table and left– I was desperate for a glass of water the entire meal but the waitress never came back once to check on me or ask if I needed anything. I did enjoy the live music, but the ambient noise in the tiny room almost drowned them out. I won’t be coming back.

A good, local dinner location that is consistent and has friendly wait staff. They don’t really excel in any one particular area, but I’ve never had a bad meal here. Their best feature is that they’re located in an area where there are very few restaurants, so they get an extra star for that, otherwise I might go with three. You know what you’re getting when you come and it’s a pleasant experience all around. Good for a quick dinner out without going too far.

We went with another couple, never been there before nor had they. Place was very small, tables close together and a very laid back atmosphere. Place was decent décor but a bit dated. Service: Good, not great although I think that was more on the kitchen than the staff. Our waitress was older and very nice. Got our initial drink order quickly. Food for the kids came out pretty quick but our food came out so much later the kids were pretty much done, which for anyone that has kids means you have to choke down your food because they can’t sit still! Food: My daughter liked the Penne with butter(but how do you screw that up). My wife and I ordered the fried calamari. Don’t! Tasted like tough rubber. I ordered a burger with Bacon, cheese, Onions on a kaiser. It was very good but if they put it on a better bun, like a pretzel bun it would have been lights out. My friend had ribs and he said they were good, along with nachos. I would agree with other posts that the portions were large. Decent but not great beer selection. Overall, decent comfort type foods but don’t get anything remotely exotic from what I could tell. Strictly a burger/Rib type place. Decent prices as well.

I enjoyed this place and am surprised it doesn’t have a higher overall rating. Fantastic bread comes with the meal. Prices are very reasonable. I had the filet of sole which was excellent. Only reason for not giving 5 stars: the delicious side potatoes were sparse and they didn’t accept Discover credit card, two pet peeves of mine. Nevertheless, I’d definitely head back.

I’ve been living in West Milford for about 10 years, I’ve been here at least 4 – 5 times. The one item we always get is the bruschetta… it’s awesome. We’ve always been happy with everything else, nothing too spectacular, but good.

Went to the Huntsman tonight with a party of 10. I can’t say that the food was incredible, but it was certainly edible. My shrimp scampi seemed fresh, and the steamed littlenecks were certainly flavorful if not a little too salty. My wife’s Blue Cheese burger was huge and smothered with bacon and blue cheese, but it was overcooked. Pretty much what I expected for a tavern establishment in our area. Some people have complained about the service, but I will tell you that the service was one of the best parts of our evening. Amy, our server, took great care of our large party, was very attentive, and got us anything we needed immediately. If you are in the area and looking for a substantial meal, you will definitely find something on the menu that suits you, and while it is not Haute Cuisine, you are not going to starve to death either.

I have been going to the Huntsman for years. And I have never had a bad experience. The burgers are phenominal. I have enjoyed the entrees there also. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. And I have not had any issues with the service. Most of the staff have been there for years. In my opinion this is the best burger in town and it has always offered an enjoyable experience.

We really wanted to like this restaurant, being new to the area. The atmosphere was quaint and had a nice country feel. We had this experience last winter, and are still affected by it: The food was simply not good, and the waitress overcharged us by $ 1 – 4 dollars on every item of food/drink that we ordered! It was outrageous. I would never step foot in this place again.

I’ll be honest… the only reason this place isn’t getting one star is because when you’re out in West Milford, your dining options are limited and this place isn’t the worst ever. But having been there three or four times, I’m confident in saying that if I had the option of going there again, I probably wouldn’t. I’m a stickler for customer service… even if your food isn’t the best, having great service will definitely warrant a plus in my book. But the past two times I’ve been to The Huntsman, service is S.L.O.W. And for no apparent reason. Me and a group of friends tend to go later when there isn’t that much of a crowd, but everything takes forever there. Drinks come quick, but after that it might be faster to go out into the wilderness of Northern Passaic county and kill a bear with your bare hands and roast it over an open fire. This past time we were one of 3 tables there at maybe 9pm and it took 45 minutes for an order of wings to come out. And then naturally, our dinners come 10 minutes after that when you’re still trying to finish your apps. So for the management — I’m not sure of you only have one dude cooking that night, but it might be worth it to hire an additional person… we weren’t the only table grumbling over the speed of the food. As for the food itself, it’s pretty standard with burgers, steaks, salads and sandwiches. Quantity over quality. Ordered the tortellini with pink cream sauce, and I got, no lie, a TROUGH of pasta in a pretty bland cream sauce. Suffice to say I ate that sucker for another 3 days after that. So not the worst place… but only go there if you don’t have a time table to stick to.

Just ate here for the first time last week, nothing great. The service was the«worst» part of this experience, just not very friendly, not especially happy people working there. We ordered the fried calamari, which was quite good, crisp. Then we received side salads which were fresh romaine, though the blue cheese dressing was virtually flavorless. For an entrée I had the Stuffed Shrimp, my husband got the Weiner Schnitzel. My Stuffed Shrimp was basically«Stuffing», Breadcrumbs, loads of butter and a few pieces of faux-crabmeat here and there. The funny thing is, I had trouble finding the shrimp! For Stuffed Shrimp I would at least think you would receive 4 Jumbo shrimp, nope… I finally found 4 tiny little shrimp under the stuffing. It was almost inedible because of the ridiculous amount of butter and grease. My husband’s Schnitzel was okay, it has some sort of Very cheesy pink sauce atop the veal cutlet. The Huntsman Potatoes are good, but just greasy. We did not try the vegetable(what appeared to be a previously frozen piece of corn on the cob). Just less than average for an almost $ 80 meal, including drinks and a kids meal.

Nice local restaurant. Lot of options. Continental style. Sam Adams is the darkest beer you can get. Food is always tasty but not very healthy. Portions are big. Service is okay but nothing to write home about. offered $ 25 gift certificates for $ 2 so we started coming here. Not sure if they are still offered but a great deal. No kids menu but a kids burger is offered. We go with the full size and split it. Not bad for $ 8. Good onion rings. Nice size salad with meal. No wait except Saturday and maybe Friday.
