Chubby’s Cheesesteaks

What’s up with these reviews and who are these strange people? I think some sort of weird pack mentality is going on here with all the 1 and 2 star ratings. I like Chubby’s. I’ve never been disappointed with my meal. I prefer the original location on North Ave but this one is fine too. Everyone that I’ve introduced to Chubby’s enjoyed it as well. The only reason I gave it a 4 is because I just don’t really give 5’s. I think there is always room for improvement.

This place is awful. There are usually about 4 – 5 employees standing at the register talking and one person manning the grill. You end up waiting forever and when you get the food you’ll surely be disappointed.
Pros: None
Cons: the food, the staff, the wait, the food, the staff, the food, the wait, the staff, the food.

This place is GARBAGE!!! They can’t even cook FISH RIGHT. Don’t go stop here! Save your money

It was ok.
To be honest the steak wasn’t great it needed something. Melt the cheese into it before you hand it over. (Go to the east coast take lesson or just go eat a cheesesteak there). I kept wanting cheesy but it was stuck to the bread and I never got CHEESE.
Second «fried onions»… They are crispy deepfried goodness. Imagine my disappointment when I find grilled or sauté onions instead. Boo! So please correct your verbiage.
I give two stars… but having never been here, I probably will never come back. It doesn’t scream amazing or even authentic.
The first star was for being friendly and for cleanliness.
The second star was for having a coke free form machine, nothing more.

$ 12 for a philly, fry, and drink.
Sandwich is very bland, I only tasted cheese whiz.
They advertise rib eye steak, so why don’t it taste like rib eye? And why not season the meat? Maybe they should grill it instead of frying it on a flat top stove, idk I’m not happy, you live and learn I guess.

I had the Philly minus the peppers. The bread was soft, steak was tasty, good ratio of toppings to beef. The whiz was plentiful. Now that I read that people found hair and nails in their sandwiches, I’m a little freaked out, so I am not sure if I will go back. Yes, it was a little expensive, but the sandwich was huge. Service was fast and friendly enough. The menu is huge but I didn’t have to read it as I knew what I wanted before I got there.

I couldn’t decide if I should go to this place or another place to eat. So I decided to go to Chubby’s since I haven’t tried it yet. BIG MISTAKE! The menu is huge and overwhelming. I wasn’t sure what to order. I final settle on Chubby’s Cheesesteak and some fries. The food is overly price. I spent almost 12.00 for food that was disgusting that I didn’t finish. I am so disappointed. I should have went with the other place. My fries tasted like they have been sitting there all day and dipped back in the frying grease. They had a weird grease taste to them. I figured you can’t go wrong with messing up a cheesesteak. I was wrong!!! It was salty and just not worth the money I spent. I had way better cheesesteak. I so regret going to this place. I will not be back. It was horrible. I probably would have had a better meal at McDonald’s. Once my number was called, I grabbed my food and asked for some BBQ sauce the unhappy nonchalant looking cashier girl hesitated said it would be 95 cent. No thank you. Don’t believe the hype. This place sucks!!!

I found a black hair in my sandwich. That is unsanitary and unacceptable. I have had a better experience in the past, but maybe you guys are starting to slack on your standards. I don’t think I’ll be ordering from here again. Would rather not take the gamble of finding some other bodily item in my food.

Tried Chubbys tonight, ordered the chubby cheese steak with extra mayo and extra red onion, sad to say the only thing I got extra was an up charge at the register, I don’t think the guy making the sandwich read the ticket, the onions were white
diced hot dog onions and pretty much non existent as was the mayo, and the fries i ordered were a decent fry but the serving size for $ 2.99 was very small…
Long story short i dropped almost $ 13… very disappointed…

This place is way too expensive. Seems to me like they are trying to get their initial investment back ASAP with these prices. The first sign that we should have went somewhere else is that this place was completely dead at noon on a Saturday!
Our two children always split a kids meal where ever we go because they don’t eat a ton of food. We order them a grilled cheese kids meal to share for $ 7 freaking dollars. I figured, it is what it is, we are here, lets eat. To my surprise when our food was ready, I found out that $ 7 only gets you half a grilled cheese sandwich. Are you freaking kidding me?!?
Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to go!

This place is awesome ! Love the fried pickles an we just ordered an received our delivery with in minutes also the deliver tracker app is amazing ! One thing I would recommend tho is updating your hours on the internet so people know that you are actually open n deliver until two a.m. Definitely will order from here again. !

This place is awful!!! First time was ok and gave a good review because they were a new business but then the next time unordered I found a finger nail clipping… They then delivered a new sandwich… Then then the following time I ordered a sandwich and a soda. Sandwich was good but they forgot my soda the delivery man said he would bring it to my right away since I had paid for it, and I kid you not 3 ¹⁄₃ hours later he brings it!!! And then today i order from the eat24 app and after i drive to the restaurant And am in the parking lot I get a call saying that they will not be fulfilling my order!!! But if I wanted it I could cancel my order and then order again and PAY 4 $ more for delivery! What a joke!
Over priced for mediocre food!

Had a Philly cheesesteak, way too salty and the meat just tasted rubbery. Could only eat ½ of the sandwich before I tossed it. For such an expensive menu and big delivery charge, never going to order from them again.

This place is strange.
The prices and amount of menu options are more similar to casual diners (where you have a waitress and it is a sit down restaurant), but the experience is more like fast food… except slower.
I don’t understand the name, because while they DID sell cheesesteaks, they also sold burgers, fish, chicken, breakfast dishes like french toast, eggs, waffles, and that’s only what I remember. The menu is MASSIVE. Overwhelmingly so. Which again, makes more sense in a sit down establishment than a fast food environment where you are trying to read the whole thing while standing in line.
The cashier was kurt and not helpful at all. The place is tiny. It’s what you would expect from a crappy fast food place, but it costs more. It’s the kind of place where absolutely everything costs extra. The prices listed are JUST for one item, sides or drinks are all extra. So all of that adds up. To top it all off, the place was SO HOT. It was 90 degrees out today, and I swear it was just as hot inside.
It took longer than usual to get our food. Not ages, but again, that weird grey area between fast food and a sit down diner. It was not fast food speed.
My burger was okay. It was sloppily put together and wasn’t awesome, but the fries were pretty good. My boyfriend’s BBQ cheesesteak was good, he said.
We have a coupon for buy one dessert get one half off… we may use that, but otherwise we aren’t anticipating going back…

Menu is overwhelming
I just wanted 2 philly cheese steaks, I got ground beef w cheese. Go across the street to jersey mikes, cheaper and better philly cheese.
Oh yea Chubs does have sushi, pizza, tacos, pancakes, pasta, ice cream, seafood yea it’s more a grocery store. Jus do the cheese steak and do it right … I wouldn’t go back .
+ it was clean place.

I ordered buffalo wings and a cheese steak with american cheese and cheese wiz. I had never had a cheesesteak before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, and I have nothing to compare Chubby’s version of one to. I can definitely compare it to other sandwiches though.
It never occurred to me that hoagie buns could be made from sawdust, but somehow Chubby’s managed to figure it out. Dry, dusty, flavorless. Gross. Tasted like week old bread.
With notes of sawdust on my palate, I was looking forward to the reward of oozing american cheese and cheese wiz. But then I realized Chubby’s also figured out how to use the flavor of sawdust in that too. Both cheeses and the hoagie bun all tasted identical. I’m not sure how that’s possible but Chubby is clearly resourceful in the blandness department.
I did vaguely detect a cheese essence somewhere in there. But that was masked by the suggestion of beef chuck flavor in the rubberized ground meat that represented the «steak» part of the word cheesesteak. I could also taste the essence of grilled onion and the vague notion of red pepper.
I suppose I had a cheesesteak, but it was a fleeting abstraction of one that had no real permanence. It was a ghost of a cheesesteak, an ectoplasmic illusion people would debate about on youtube. «That’s just a piece of two-​by-​four», «Cheesesteaks don’t exist», «Obvious hoax is obvious». You know what I’m talking about.
The wings were bearable, but I cannot comprehend how blandness can be an actual ingredient Chubby’s uses in everything it makes! I mean, if blandness was a good ingredient that would be a signature quality of Chubby’s and I would be giving it 5 stars for it’s generous use of it! The wings were but an apparition of themselves with but a hint of buffalo sauce flavor. At least they were fried correctly and were actually hot.
With «cheesesteak» in your name, you better have a damned good one. So I have an idea for you, Chubby’s. Rename yourself to Chubby’s Blandwiches and really market that ingredient you put in all your food! Seekers of bland will not be disappointed.
Two stars for fast delivery, but that’s about it.

I wish I could say I had an opportunity to taste the food, but I didn’t quite get that far. After standing at the counter for a few minutes, one of the several staff finally stopped talking to her coworkers and took my order. They must have been very busy with the one other customer that was waiting for his food. I placed my order, filled up my soda from the fountain, and turned around to see at least three of the staff eating food off the prep line. One even picked it up with her bare hands and another appeared to be one of the cooks. At that point I asked for my money back. When prompted for a reason, I told them it was because they were eating off the prep line. They said they were allowed to do that. I stated that it was disgusting and against health code. Needless to say, I do not recommend this establishment.

After the traffic and parking hassle of the one on the east side it’s nice to have this location. After having more experience with cheese steak sandwiches than years past I am giving three stars.
This location is just south of miller park next to dickies BBQ with plenty of parking around the building. The place is narrow and very small with a tiny dining area, the kitchen is bigger. See my pictures.
The on line menu is nothing like the one I looked at so I will post pictures of the real menu. The menu is massive for a sandwich shop and the biggest I have seen for a sandwich shop.
I ordered the steak cheese steak with cheese wiz. For one thing the cheese wiz was not very salty like the one I had on the east side. The sandwich is probably 11 inches long and looked great. The cheese wiz was thick and creamy. The bread was soft and fresh. The steak didn’t have steak flavor at all like my favorite place has. The steak was kind of like any beef sandwich beef you get around. If you took out the cheese wiz and added an jus sauce it would taste like any regular beef sandwich. With that being said it was still a good sandwich and hit the spot.
Over all the cheese steak was better than the chain sub places I have had and it does hit the spot but it’s not one of the best. It is better than the other cheese steak place in Milwaukee which I will not go back to. If you want a better than average cheese wiz steak sandwich than chubbies is the place.

What a horrible experience! After the delivery driver left I opened up my plastic bag with two restaurant to go containers and a root beer… no ice cream. I ordered a fried triple combo, gyro dinner and a root beer float…
The fries that came with the gyro were enettable. They had the texture of left overs that had sat in a fridge a few weeks and then sloppily reheated in the microwave. Sloppily reheated. If you can call the temperature I was give even close to warm. The whole dish was sadly discusting. The gyro was also cold, pita bland and rubbery… chew…chew…chew…come on pleases break down… chew. The meat was cold, dry and bland. The cucumber sauce, also bland. I paid extra for some lettuce. It was missing.
The fried triple combo, Twinkie, Oreo and snickers, all deep fried were well, deep fried candy. It was clear by there texture, temperature and condensation in the box they had been camping out in there awhile. I would say they were also not good but it’s deep fried candy… how bad can you really screw that up before your not going to eat it. They were cold and soggy by the time they got to me… I didn’t eat them.
And then there was the root beer float. I should say the root beer float that never was. So, in my bag I see an A&W root beer, but no ice cream. I call chubbys and tell them what had happened and asked them to send me some ice cream or mail me a refund. The kid who answered the phone was incompetent to say the least. He placed me on hold for 4 min until I hung up called back and told him to go get a manager. So then the manager gets on the phone. It’s been now 10 mins and I’m dealing with a $ 4 worth of ice cream issue. This should have been so easy for them. I could have gone to the store in that time.
The manager preceded to LITTERALLY YELL at me and scolded me for being impatient because they were so busy. When I asked what his name was he wouldn’t give it to me, nor would he give me the name of his manager. He did inform me that he «really isn’t like a manager of sorts» and that there isn’t a manager that works there. Hmmm… something sounds fishy. Either chubbys is violating noumerious rules and regulations stated in the WI stat which overlaps quite a few federal regulations, including employee positioning… or…this dude is straight up lying to me. At least by then he had stopped yelling at me. He never stopped arguing with me. WOW. I was accused of being «confused» about my order, told I was being unreasonable, telling me they didn’t have record of my order, asking me to come and show them the recite. WOW.
If I could give negative stars I would. After paying $ 40, $ 10 of which chubbys cheesesteaks STOLE from me all I am left with is this rotten food, a rotten experience and an A&W root beer. I guess the root beer was pretty good. A&W. In a can.
While being assertive and again getting yelled at (I don’t mean yell in an opinion way, but yell like when your momma ain’t to happy with you and uses your full name way) after 15 mins of a disasterious run around, I hung up the phone and took some anxiety meds.
As a woman, a coustemer, a person I have never been treated so disgracefully by a restaurant in my whole life. Jesus himself could ask me to grab dinner at this establishment and I would literally tell him he is making a terrible decision. You have already been crucified once i would say, do you really want to eat here and go through that again?
With food like I had and the «service» I received I am shocked and appalled Chubbys cheesesteak is even open. They made me wonder if coustemer service and decent food are a thing of the past. Next time I’m feeling delivery, I’m calling Pizza Hut. Saddley, when put side by side, better food and better service. Not good chubby. Not good at all.
Oh, and you still owe me $ 10.

As great as their location on Oakland. Keep up the great work and giving Milwaukee the Philly experience
